We were fighting all the time and not doing well. We went to Suzanne for 6 months and now we fight soooo much less and are in a good place with our relationship. It was really challenging work with her, and we often would get very upset during sessions. But that was because to make a marriage work, you have to confront things about yourself that don't feel good. It was life changing therapy. I highly recommend her. She's pricey, but worth every penny.

She told me to ask for a separation, and he'd come running. She told me to not allow him to come to our sessions any longer and make him earn my love back. Both suggestions failed miserably. My now ex-husband wanted to work on things, she told me to deny any contact with him. When he calls or texts, say I am busy and need time alone. I now realize that I was in such a fog in my own life, I am partially to blame for my failed marriage. He asked for a divorce one month later. I asked her what to do, she said good and you do not need him anyway. You'll find a better partner and husband the second time around. First marriages do not always work anyway. What was I thinking continuing to listen to this woman? She then told me once a week was not enough to help fix me, so she wanted to see twice a week. She also offered phone consultations as another option. If you want to save your life or your marriage or your relationship, the worst thing you can do is visit this doctor. I would had been better off listening to my gut and instinct than listening to this woman.

Prior to meeting Dr. Donahue, I had been in therapy consistently for ten years. I've seen at LEAST…read morefive therapists, ranging in technique, demeanor, specialty etc but truly not one of them compares to Dr. Donahue. I originally sought out her support for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitntion and Reprocessing) to move through a trauma that I experienced at 13 years old. Shortly after we began treatment, I experienced another traumatic event and we quickly switched gears. Dr. Donahue is an agile psychologist who knows how to redirect attention and efforts on a whim. She helped me learn to trust myself by asking me pointed questions rather than giving me specific advice; she taught me how to set boundaries and most importantly, how to not feel guilty about doing so. She taught me how to be resourceful and utilize all of the tools I have cultivated over the years. She taught me how to utilize my friends/family/community as a tool as well. I ended my work with Dr. Donahue because I moved across the country but I would have actively chosen to stay with her had that been a possibility. I genuinely don't know where I'd be without her. I have never, in my entire life, felt so at peace and happy as I am right now. My recommendation for anyone looking to have a really impactful therapeutic experience is to do your homework. Show up to every session like you show up to work -- be prepared, get curious about yourself on your own time, come with questions and thoughts. Be OPEN and adopt a learners mindset.
