We love having this option walking distance in our neighborhood instead of having to load up the car just to go to a dog park. Being a baseball diamond it's a huge space and it makes me so happy to see our pup getting to run around off leash and know he's not going to wander off or get into trouble. It's a volunteer run so I'm grateful for those folks who have been helping maintain the space. I haven't had a lot of time to help yet but I'd like to in the future, especially if it keeps it running. I'm not sure if it will stay during outdoor sports season but we hope so! But for now, it's a great way for our pups to get some fresh air and socializing during the winter months (though you won't catch us there when it's under 25 degrees outside!). Haven't been during a warm up yet so I can't say if it gets muddy or anything but so far so good on cleanliness, too!

The older kids there helped me console my young son who was hurt while a few of the others watched my other 3 kids for me. This skate park is really off the hook cool! And even though we had some blood shed, we will definitely return! Again, I appreciate that the other kids there are mindful and respectful to the younger ones. After that horrible experience, I decided to change her lessons to one-on-one private lessons with a different instructor. It was mainly a sweet girl named Julia who worked with my daughter. My daughter became so excited about swimming! Julia was very patient with my daughter and after the lesson, she'd come right up to me and explain to me everything they went over, and what we needed to work on at home. So even though our first experience here was god-awful, our visits after were so that I'm still giving it 5 stars. Also it is a very nice pool to hang out around with ample swimming pools/areas. Really large shallow wading pool for young children.

Man, it's rarely open. This season it hasn't even been open at all because of a mechanical issue and last summer it had several closures and hiccups throughout the season. And when it was open, a good part of the pool (the deep end) was closed off because they were short staffed. That means that all the other spaces got extra crowded, which wasn't the best scenario for a relaxing swim. Such a bummer! It's walking distance from my house so I REALLY REALLY want to love it, and mostly I REALLY REALLY want to visit it but we just can't because it's still been closed. We still walk our dog through the park, and I love the baseball games and checking out all the rad skaters in the skate park, but the pool is just a real bummer.

The park stayed open for a few years, but due to budget cuts, it is no longer monitored by any staff. Even though the skatepark shares a parking lot with the Westland Police Dept. and a District Court, that wasn't a deterrent for tons of garbage and graffiti to take over. I definitely wouldn't take younger kids there, as a lot of the older kids just kind of hang out and smoke and supposedly drink. There are other area skateparks that have staff to keep an eye on things and clean up. I would use those for kids if you don't want them trying to skate in what looks like a set from Breaking Bad.
