On every trip to Madrid we have been to Jalo and enjoy the delicous food that is served by the restaurant. Madrid is an awesome city and we usually stay near the Atocha so their are some great food options but none better than Jalo. The food is awesome and the white sauce which they serve with all the entrees and sandwiches is one of the best I have had. I usually order the adana kebab entree which is served with tasty basmati rice or french fries along with a little burnt green pepper and tomatoes which hit the spot. The pita sandwiches are excellent too along with a lot of different menu options which I am looking forward to enjoying when I get back to Madrid. Pricing is very reasonable for the location as it is swamped with tourists and the employees are caring and provide excellent service. They also have a hookah lounge in the back for people who want to chill out after a tasty dinner. 5 stars all the way if you are in Madrid don't miss this one.

After visiting Turkey last summer and spending 136% of my time in hookah/nargile bars, finding El Turkito was a godsend. Unfortunately, this place was pretty crappy. The hookah we had, while it seemed decent enough, was not airtight, no matter how much we tried to fix it, and made smoking incredibly laborious. Not even Lance Armstrong himself has lungs strong enough to get a good tobacco pull. The wine we had was fine at three Euros, but the Turkish tea was awful. I'm not sure how a Turkish bar run by a bunch of Turkish dudes could mess that up, but they did. To top it off our waiter pretty much ignored us the entire time, choosing instead to tend to every other table there, never coming back for more drink orders or new coals on the hookah. I had to walk into the kitchen to get someone to give us the bill and take our money. :[

Most of our dishes came with fried potatoes. I was disappointed that our pork was so under seasoned. My friend said his fish was good though. We ordered dessert as well and while I liked my "pineapple soup with coconut ice cream", I think it wasn't fantastic. This was our first restaurant meal in Madrid and after an 11-hour flight, maybe our appetite was not there? I don't want to rate them down much.

I ordered the hake with clam. The hake was overcooked and way too chewy. The clams didn't even open up yet which either meant it wasn't cooked or it wasn't fresh. I tasted 2 clams and had to spit it out, it was horrible and left a nasty fishy/clamy taste in my mouth. 100% these clams weren't fresh. The spaghetti that my wife ordered appeared to be bland based on appearance. It tasted worse than it looked. The food was not what we expected. The appetizer thst I ordered, smoked salmon with lobster mousse was sour and tasted not fresh. The staff was nice and sat us quick. The food also came out quick as well, but the quality of the food was definitely lacking. Perhaps it was just the day that I went? I wouldn't recommend going here, unless you want an upset stomach.
