When I said I had to check…read moreinto the cost at some other places because their costs sounded very steep I felt like they were trying to bully me into getting my dental work done there by telling me no one else in the area could do it and that no one would take my dental insurance even though it's through a major insurance carrier. When I mentioned that I'd like my x-rays and the other things that they had done before telling me they didn't participate with my insurance the lady was quite snippy about it and said if the other dentist had to have them then they'd make a copy. My one x-ray and less than five minutes in the chair of nothing more than taking a look in my mouth and asking a few questionswound up costing over $300. The lone x-ray only costed $25, so the 3-4 minutes I spent with the dentist was apparently at roughly $100 a minute. Not what I expected. I declined their services I did find another dentist which a friend recommended after doing two of the same procedures for her, and the same service is now going to cost me around $600 instead of $2000 after insurance. The cost at the dentist I will be going to is also about 1/3 of the total cost without insurance as it would have been at this office.

I don't know what brought someone from Chicago to Bay City but I have to assume it was an emergency situation while visiting someone. I can testify to the fact that this office does have rules but I don't view that as a negative. It's not an emergency dental clinic. I don't see anything wrong with a practice wanting to have a full picture of a patients status. But I won't pretend to know the circumstances. I can only speak about my own. I have not had one negative experience since I became a patient here. The staff and Dr. Payne have always been very professional and honestly, more friendly and understanding than any other dentist I've ever suffered in my life. I have a lot of dental problems and HATE going to appointments because of how badly I feel about my situation. That said, they are among the kindest people I have ever met and always treat me like a human being even though I don't feel that way. There is no other dentist office or dentist I'd rather go to. This practice, this staff, Dr. Payne are the only people I trust because after these last few years, they're the only ones that make me feel like I have a shot.

So, I opened Yelp and started looking for local practices. In this small town, there were only 3 dental practices listed. 1st firm - I called. They were closed on Fridays. 2nd said they needed to assess me and take x-rays first, and then in a SECOND appointment, they could help me. I thought they were joking. I explained I just needed some glue and someone to push down on it. Nope. 2 appointments. No exceptions. No thanks. 3rd place was Aspen Dental. They fit me in the next day (a Saturday!) and were able to do everything in one appointment on a Saturday morning. Can't get much better than that.

Then went to the "administrative" person, who was like a used car salesman. Somehow in the time I walked the hall to her office, the treatment became two fillings, two crowns, two implants and a super-duper cleaning and the total bill BEYOND MY BCBS INSURANCE would be almost $10k and was immediately pushed to signup for some care credit account. I said we'd hold off on the two implants until after the new year when insurance would reset and my bill BEYOND MY INSURANCE was still over $2k. (Keep in mind my BCBS insurance covers the first $1,500 and provides a discount after that). When I contacted the office before the appointment for this work to be done, I said I wanted just the cleaning and fillings done and that I'd address those crowns and implants after the new year. Was told by the "administrative" person that a regular cleaning "wouldn't do anything," that they would refuse to just give me that cleaning and that I need the periodontal super cleaning that would still cost nearly $1000 BEYOND MY INSURANCE plus the cost of fillings. When I said I wanted just the fillings done then, she said she was canceling my future appointment because I wasn't having the mega-expensive periodontal whatever cleaning done. So evidently fillings are impossible here unless you're paying over $1,000 for this super cleaning to be done. Have no idea how that is ethical. It's like a doctor refusing to fix a broken leg because you didn't didn't buy the most expensive brace on Earth to use prior to your appointment. I have no problem with having NECESSARY AND REAL work that needs to be done, but when your pushed into having very expensive work done and they refuse to do the basic stuff, it's a red flag. Now it's too late to use the insurance benefits in 2025 because another place won't be able to get me in before the end of the year, so I learned a $1,500 lesson - don't go to CORPORATE dentistry outfits.

Altho somewhat apprehensive as my wife has had two "dry socket" experiences in the past I had it removed by Dr. Prasad a week ago. The entire process from initial exam to the extraction went smoothly and seemed to take no time at all to accomplish and I was awake and aware of the tooth being pulled but felt no pain at all and very little pain after the numbness subsided. No real pain at all, really since the procedure and the pain the tooth was giving me is now totally gone and healing very well. Dr. Prasad and the entire office staff are professionals who know what they are doing and I commend them for being so. Overall, a great doctor and a wonderful staff.
