I am not very well versed in Swedish customs, but coffee breaks with cinnamon rolls? Sign me up for fika.
If the weather is nice (which I sure hope it is when you visit Sandhamn, because not only did you have to take a two-hour boat ride here from Stockholm, but you also have to spend the entire day outdoors), hit up Ankaret for coffee and snacks in the afternoon. Take advantage of the outdoor seating and observe fika with a beautiful view of the water.
I was really amused by their inconsistency when it came to presentation: my Americano was in a take-out cup, while my cinnamon roll was presented to me on a fancy heavy plate. I also think they have some kinks to work out when it comes to the cinnamon rolls: one of them was noticeably smaller than the other but I'd be lying if they weren't the best cinnamon rolls I've ever eaten without any of the excessively sugary glaze that you find on American cinnamon rolls.
It's worth knowing ahead of time that Ankaret is a seasonal cafe and is only open in the summer. read more
