We've been coming here regularly for years, but only recently started coming here more often. The service is consistently good, and the food, both Mexican and American is hot and delicious; the tortillas are fresh (there's the standard tortilla lady cooking away). We usually order the New Mexico plate or the Macho Olé. BUT, The last time we came, there was a cockroach in my wife's tea. We immediately told our server and she offered to bring us another one, but we're decided to leave. You could tell that the worker was horrified, but it has ruined the experience for her. read more

Visiting from Houston and picked this place because we wanted a Mexican breakfast. It was advertised that there were homemade tortillas. I must say this restaurant did not disappoint. You could smell the deliciousness as you were walking toward the entrance. Staff was very welcoming and made you feel like you were being served at home. I had the Chilaquiles, spicy green sauce, probably the best I have ever had. The Menudo was very flavorful and abundant. My mother got the Chicharron with eggs and she was very happy with her meal We were all impressed with the homemade corn and flour tortillas. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for good authentic Mexican food. Would definitely return to this place each time I come here. read more

Based on the 2 breakfast buffet experiences I've had: Food is warm and delicious. They don't have a crazy amount of options, but what they do have is all made well. What I tried and loved: frijoles con chorizo, huevos con chorizo, sausage links, French toast, and arroz con leche. My husband recommends the menudo. They have a collection of items on the walls and they aren't dusted frequently. Also a downside is you seat yourself so you have to walk in and check if there's space for you. Today I saw a couple sit at 2 tables that could've sat 6 people. And next to us was a space reserved for about 12 people with a note on the table to reserve until 10am. It was 10:30 when we left and that space was unoccupied the whole time and people were coming in to check for a place to sit. Last thing, parking is terrible. read more

Service and food was good but unfortunately I will never be able to go back here again. First time we went everything was delicious. Second time we went my in-laws were in town. We all ordered pancakes since it was my favorite. When my mother in law was adding syrup a fly came out of the bottle on to her pancakes. We then saw a cockroach running in the floor. One waiter told the other and she just stepped on it and left it. Pancakes were so good and fluffy. Ordered breakfast tacos and had to wait as the restaurant was very busy. Both corn and flour tortillas are homemade and lay the foundation for a great taco experience. The machacado a la mexicana was outstanding. The vegetables had just enough crunch left in them to help bring out the salty beef. Outstanding. We will never go back to Anita's again. We went on a Saturday at 12 noon there was hardly any customers. When we walked in we were not even welcome, there was a wait as soon as we walked in and she gave us a weird look didn't even smile. My husband & I sat down for like 10 mins and out of all the employees that were just standing there no one ever bothered to bring us menus nor get near our table. My Husband & I just got up and left. I would've given this restaurant ZERO STARS, but it doesn't have that option. The owners need to work on their employees to be more attentive to everyone. EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE!!!!!! read more

Best Mexican breakfast buffet I've tried in a very long time. They also have some of the best breakfast tacos around. And my favorite chiliquilles in the RGV. Their potato and egg is really good. Maybe as good as your grandma's. Not better than my grandma's. But let's not argue about that. How about you go try it and see for yourself. The eggs and potatoes are are fluffy, buttery goodness. Topped with some of their ranchero sauce, turns up the deliciousness level. So good. Chiliquilles are blast of flavor and texture. Crispy, cheesy, a touch of acidity from the tomato based salsa/sauce the chips are cooked. Nice shredded stewed chicken. Just a wonderful dish. Great flour tortillas. I know most of you who do go will agree with that statement. Anita's is the quintessential RGV breakfast/lunch joint we all know and love. We all have one of these places on our rotations. I think our kind of Mexican breakfast/lunch places should be classier differently. They are not true Tex-Mex joints like in SA but not authentic Mexican either. It's Valley food. read more

Cross contamination is a big thing and this place doesn't really take it seriously, I ordered pancakes and they came out literally tasting like onion, the hash browns were horrible and tasted like nothing because it wasn't even fully made nor seasoned. We wouldn't mind the waiting time if it was made right. Their bathroom is pretty gross too like there is so much build up on the sink and it's just gross. read more

I loved it here. Right down the road from where I live and had never tried it. Inexpensive, affordable, piping hot food! Coffee is served on gigantic mugs. They also have a huge buffet for breakfast and lunch. Have not tried that, since I can't eat that much. Local favorite for me now. Very nice decor, friendly staff! read more

This is a fantastic little Mexican food restaurant, sort of a hole in the wall, but you can tell the owners put love into their business. The interior is spacious with two seperate rooms to eat in with large booths lining the walls and tables in the middle. I suggest getting there early before the lunch crowd on the weekdays, or after noon when things settle down. I highly recommend the Richard's Special which comes with fajitas (beef or chicken) in 2 tacos with grilled onions and sliced avocados on top. The tacos are huge, and you get rice and beans on the side along with a grilled chile. My mother swears by their carne guisada with homemade french fries, and my grandparents get their chalupas. I also have had their beef enchiladas and they are everything!! All of the food is fresh, made to order, with a woman making homemade flour and corn tortillas in the corner of the restaurant. The iced tea is very sweet, which is not for everyone, and they will give you a large To-Go glass for free. Friendly service really makes Anita's one of the best places for homemade Mexican food in Edinburg. read more

Visited this local, very busy, Mexican restaurant and was left wondering what the big deal was all about. We arrived early for breakfast & while it came out fast & hot, that was it. The eggs were swimming in oil. My just as greasy biscuit could be literally squeezed out. The tortillas were thick and cold. The refried beans tasted like a dirty pan. The coffee was good. My daughter, her friend and I ate here, after reading the reviews. It was great to be able to watch someone make fresh tortillas by hand. We decided on a fajita botana. It was delicious! The beef was both tender and tasty. Everything tasted Really good. The tortillas were, of course, wonderful, as was the guacamole. We enjoyed the iced tea, too. The only complaint I have was, once we were served, the waitress didn't really check on us until she brought me the bill. No beverage refills were offered at all. I can only grade the breakfast as I've yet to go for lunch (not open for dinner), but I find that their food is fresh and coffees always hot! If you're in the area , I'd definitely try them out and see for yourself. It tends to get busy so you'll sometimes have to wait for an open table (no hostess, so you'll need to look for yourself).
