When he wants a curry, we usually order from his favourite Mahbub so we can watch him sweat while eating his curry at home, in private. The food is very good and this latest visit was no exception. We ordered vegetable samosas, seek kebab, fish tikka balti and moglai lamb lazia. The dishes came with rice or naan and we were given poppadoms and a portion of each mango chutney, onion chutney and minty yoghurt. The food is always good for the price we pay and for a takeaway. Although this place doesn't do deliveries, it's always a pleasant experience to come in store and place our order as we get to watch the busy open kitchen in action. The staff are very friendly and professional and you're offered coffee while you wait for your order (of a main meal). I would highly recommend a visit for those in the Chorlton area.

So on my first visit it's fair to say that my expectations were pretty high. On arrival my boyfriend and I placed our order for the vegetarian meal for two, and were offered fresh coffee and bombay mix whilst we waited for our dishes to be prepared. You can watch the friendly staff cooking your meal, and with free drinks and snacks why bother phoning ahead?! Fast-forward to a week later. I am sitting in my kitchen waiting for my microwave to ping - I'm de-frosting the last part of the vegetarian banquet. After stuffing our faces couple of popadoms, dips, onion bhajees and naan breads with a fair attempt at all of the curries we were given, my boyfriend and I had no choice but to retire. The banquet for 2 is really enough to feed at least 4 people! I assume that the meaty alternative would be even more filling. Next time my cupboards and fridge are empty I know where I'll be going for my next week's worth of sustenance!

The food quality and service is exceptional and the fact that they don't do deliveries in no way detracts from just how busy this place is. My fave is the Tandoori Mixed Grill with a Dopiaza Sauce (you can have any sauce you like). The price of fame of course is that at busy times you may need to be a little patient. The trick is, phone your order in, if they say 20 mins, turn up in 20 mins and you may wait another 5 mins, Trust me, the food is worth any wait. The other alternative is order when you get there and go to the boozer across the road for a swift one ! The sister restaurant next door "Gatley Cuisine" is also well worth a visit. Both places do have a great reputation and, while they supply reasonable, good quality food, my personal experience is that they are just a little bit average. I think that the reputation stands from a number of years of being a *bit* better than those around - while, especially recently(ish), the target has moved with the opening of new places in Cheadle and others who are providing a more authentic menu rather than the anglicised selections that became popular in the 80's and 90's I'm being a little bit scathing, perhaps, but it's just that I find many of the dishes lack any genuine variety. I have been quite a few times, though, so it's not bad - just not amazing. Portion sizes for the takeaway are huge - those standard takeaway carriers being packed to the brim - and plenty of actual content, it's not all just sauce. I find ordering from the 'exclusive dishes' section tends to yield the most interesting and tasty results - obviously that's just personal. They have also messed up my order on a couple of occasions - so listen carefully when they (rather maniacally) shout what's in your bag. So, worth a go - and still one of the better takeaways in Gatley - but given the various delivery options out there I would say try a few others and looks for the more specialist (e.g. south indian) takeaways and restaurants.

You can order over the phone where the staff are very pleasant or even go for the ultimate lazy option and avoid human contact all together by ordering on Just eat. Either way you can rest assured that you are going to be provided with a great quality meal straight to your front door. This is the kind of place which is the perfect accompaniment to a Saturday night infront of the television where you want to sit down relax and get a good munch on. I'd particularly suggest a King Prawn tandoori for less than seven quid but whatever you fancy if you like Indian then you will appreciate the good quality food which is served up by Saffron. I have found in the past that takeaway Indians dont measure up to actually going out to eat for a curry but once again Saffron breaks the mold and is every bit as special as getting your gladrags on and going out to eat.

It was beautiful. I've not had curry in ages and it was exactly what I needed. They do meal deal of the week too, so make sure you ask! You get the curry of the week with pilau rice and naan for £4.95. You can't beat that price when it's such good quality. Perfect for loafing infront of the telly with a good film. (+£1.50 to deliver). You won't be disappointed with Saffron. My hat is tipped to you sirs!

The venue itself is nothing to write home about, but it's comfortable and modern enough and the staff are very helpful and friendly. As for the mains, we got the garlic chicken chilli massala and the Bengal Sil Silla. The latter was great, it was hotter than I expected and had a lovely rich flavour. The former was a lot milder and didn't really taste of much. The special tandoori platter was nice although we were a bit full by that point - it was maybe a little drier than the excellent one I had at the Purple Pakora. If I hadn't over-ordered by getting that, it would have been £10 a head which is good value for the amount of food. There wasn't many in at about 4.30pm and I was served real fast. I tried to order a biryani and was told there were certain days for that special dish and today was unfortunately not one of them. So I picked a Lamb Karahi dish on the bone with rice. Tap water was free and available on the tables with glasses to help yourself. My curry dish came in mins and I started digging into it. Curry was thick, average greasiness and potion size fair with not too many bones. BUT I found the flavours to be mainly salty and not as flavoursome as I would have expected. I did choose meat on the bone and was after the sweetness that a curry would have with lamb bones stewed in it. Would I come back for another one? I probably would to try a different curry.

This is Indian comfort food, but it is good food indeed. There has been a trend in recent times that certain take aways establish a fantastic reputation for great food. Curries are without doubt my favourite food, so I've had a good few and since working for Yelp I have set myself the task of really locating the finest curry houses in Manchester. The Original Third Eye fully deserves to enter in at the top, alongside my other favourites, Punjab in Rusholme, Moon in Withington, and The Original Lal Qila on Deansgate. See my list for the run down. The name Original Third Eye comes from one of the finest restaurants in Kathmandu, though it is also a reference to the concept of the all Seeing Eye, a central emblem of Buddhist thought that is depicted on many temples and shrines throughout Nepal. The restaurant itself is large, and spacious, with authentic decoration and a smart, but still nicely informal, table arrangement. The food is literally unbelievable. Needless to say they sell all the usual traditional curry dishes, including an extensive fish list, but the main specialties are something new and unusual, a curry with a little something extra, taking it to that next level of joy and producing happiness and glee in their very consumption. The kidney kebab starter for example, combines classic kebab spices with beautiful marinated lamb kidney. Also beautiful is the Third Eye Tangri, which mixes chicken with minced lamb and nuts, a surprising and beautiful combination. In terms of mains, go directly to either the seafood menu or the Third Eye Specials section, on which everything is gorgeous. The piece de resistance, is the Murghi Masala, a whole chicken marinated in wonderful spices. This dish is so precisely crafted, that you in fact need to give 24 hours notice, and at least two people need to share it. I think that epitomizes this restaurant's absolute class. So I end on that note.
