I'm not religious in the slightest but I've visited a few Quaker houses now and this one is a really quaint space being utilised by a wide range of the community. When I nipped in it was in the midst of preschool pick up but the staff were friendly and helpful. They have a great space and one that they not only hire out to the community and use for their worship but they also have a creative day just to bring people together to make in a space amongst other creatives and without any disruption from the trappings of daily life. Their building is set just next door to Northfield's main shopping area and right on the doorstep of the park. Perfect location if you need a venue in Northfield.

Did you know that the Botanical Gardens offer courses on everything from portrait photography to…read moregrowing plants (kind of an obvious one that I guess) to yoga? I always presumed this space was used for school groups but I was lucky enough to attend classes here recently - it's a tranquil setting with views of the lovely gardens and the ideal place to loll around on a gym mat (I did yoga in case you're wondering). You can approach the building directly from Westbourne Road (it's a little bit hidden away so look out for the signs) or through the Gardens during later summer opening hours. There's limited parking available at the Study Centre so you may prefer to use the main Gardens' car park. It boasts a number of rooms - they all seem pretty light and airy and they're often decorated with collages made by visiting kids. Looking at their website it would appear that their Summer courses are on hold, which seems a real shame given how much I enjoyed attending classes here and especially in light of the closure of the nearby Adult Education Centre (The Clocktower in Harborne High Street) - with this in mind, its worth phoning ahead to make sure whatever it is you fancied lending your hand to, is still running.

There are 3 dance studios located inside. One of them is a bit of a pain to learn in if your class is busy. It has a support pillar right down to the floor in the centre of the room. But the other two are brilliant with no obstacles and good sound systems to boot. What's nice about this place (besides it's great location, cafe on site and friendly staff) is the seasonal changing of the classes. I'm currently taking a beginners commercial dance that was just added in January. There is also a new dance fitness class that works every muscle in your body! Classes are generally between £5 to £7. You don't have to reserve a spot either. Just show up and pay that day. The only problem I found is if the class is not heavily attended it is cancelled. It's the drawback of offering drop in classes. People may not show! It happened to my zumba class twice. Which is why you should bring your friends! Whether you are passionate for dance, looking for a fun way to exercise, or just looking to meet people, Dance Workshop offers something for everyone!

I started zumba about a year after having baby number 3. I had not done any exercise for ages and…read morethe baby never slept so I was always tired. I dragged myself along to Jolenes class and I am so glad that I did. I went with a friend and we had such a good time without realising we were having a really good workout! Jolene is really smiley and everyone is really friendly not intimidating like gyms can be. I can't recommend these classes enough especially if you have kids and free time is precious.
