You get a actual key which you should leave in the reception when going out. You lock the room from the inside with the key. There are no safety box in the rooms. No minibar or fridge. We stayed here in September and stayed in during the day - it was freezing cold so bring an extra sweater. TV has like 30 channels but they are all none-English speaking. The walls are rather thin and I woke up a couple of times at night and early morning. Guests don't seem to show other guests a lot of respect. Loud voices in hallway. Breakfast is continental with boiled hot dogs and eggs. Coffee is instant. Even if it is served in Café Bristol they do not even offer proper coffee from the bar. Service at breakfast was fine. Bytom is a small town with not so many bars or restaurants and from here they are all nearby. If you arrive late and just want a quick bite, McD is practicularly next door. There is a tiny supermarket just on the corner where they dont speak English but are willing to help. Dont be afraid to use body language. I would definately stay here again. They DO NOT accept AMEX.

Great employees at front desk 98 per cent any way. night 1; Some female employees were not helpful with basic information: ME: "Is the restaurant closed" : "yes: not.... yes but u can order room service or go to the skybar; just a stoic yes and end of story; next day; 2nd female; the restaurant closes in 15 minutes but you can still order; wrong! restaurant does not place orders for food 15 minutes before closing. overnight female; "oh u can take the taxi to Tesco it only cost 15 zloty"; wrong it cost 20 zloty Don't let anyone tell you the train station is in walking distance if you have luggage.

The Hampton was a great hotel to stay at because it reminded me how awesome American hotels are. Not saying that European hotels are not awesome. They are! In a different way. Our room had a very comfortable queen bed and a nice cool air conditioning system. We've been dying in hot hotel rooms this whole trip. If you're going to visit Auschwitz as we are in the morning I highly recommend the Hampton. They will give you big buckets of ice from the bar with a big smile. Something I haven't experienced before in Europe. This hotel is great. It will be the last hotel I ever stay at BEFORE meeting my beautiful cousin Joanna and her fiancé Michelle in Krakow this weekend. The highlight of and the main reason I took this trip to begin with! How can it be that I've lived 63 years and im just now meeting these awesome people in my family? Im just glad that I can!
