Unfinished business, this review. So let me have a go at it right now. I've half an hour to kill…read morebefore "doggy-dinner-time" anyhooo. There's always something magical going on in Port Townsend. Its the nature of the place. A brief glance at either the "PT Leader" or "The Peninsula Daily News" will offer up many choices... Perhaps a movie? (Three venues plus an old-fashioned Drive-In movie theater.) Perhaps a show at the Upstage or Mondresa Castle? Perhaps a class or two out at Fort Worden. (Goddard has an extension here as does Peninsula College.) I could continue, but shall not. This is a review of the Key CIty Public Theatre which holds its own against every other possible choice of entertainment in town . It's rare that a KCPT performance is not sold out. It's rarer still if a KCPT is a flop. Just doesn't happen. 'Twas early summer and I was in town. "MacBeth" was playing at Chetzemoka Park, and I thought to go. KCPT had pulled out the stops with this performance, staging it in a corner of the park. Now Chetzemoka Park is quite spectacular. Green grass and roses on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound. Boats of all sizes and shapes floating leisurely in an out of the harbor. Clouds floating in the sky. Eagles soaring. Against this backdrop, MacBeth would appear out of place. Too bloody. Too martial. So wisely, KCPT chose a small green glen within the park, placed the audience with their backs to the Sound. Succeeded in transporting the whole audience back in time to a magical place, perhaps somewhere near Scotland, where Shakepeare's drama could realistically unfold. Success! Even though the lead actor had been injured the day before and the role was now played by the director. A perfect five stars! The next day, I said to myself, why not try another KCPT production? "BARK: The Musical" was playing at the tiny KCPT playhouse on the waterfront. And of course, this production, too was five stars. Laughed a lot, cried a bit, as actors performed their doggishly funny routines. Oh...and got the last seat in the house before the performance sold out. Front and center, first row. Perfect ! And under twenty dollars. Try getting to a Broadway show for that kinda chump change. KCPT has my vote. The actors are very good. (Sometimes appearing with permission from Actors Equity.) The plays are perfectly executed and appropriate to their settings. And... As a bonus...the audience. Intelligent. Interactive. Interesting. What's not to like? A magical company for a magical town. But...gotta go now... My half-hour is up, the dogs are anxiously awaiting their repast. May start howling soon... Doggy dinnertime here at Casa Canine. Tonght we're having Hill's Science Diet. Weight Loss Formula. You are most welcome to join us. If you lick your bowl clean. And guard it carefully. We don't stand on ceremony around here. Catch ya at KCPT next time I'm there. They tell me Dracula's going to be there for Hallowe'en....you might still be able to buy a ticket. Definitely worth sinking your teeth into that production. Give it a go.

Here's the thing: the shows may or may not be good. I have not been there in years, mostly because…read moreDenise Winter (artistic director) has nudged the community right out the door. Denise wants "professional actors" to show all us local yokels how to do theater. She does this while promoting this as a "local theater." That is dishonesty in its purest form. This theater is now local by location ONLY. They have eliminated (willingly, I might add) any element of the uniqueness of Port Townsend from the theater are now giving you only the barest of bare minimums of the talent that Port Townsend has to offer. Take this to heart the next time you are looking for good, quality, PORT TOWNSEND talent.

People play Frisbee and cornhole, or just chill on the Adirondack chairs. On chillier days or if staying for the evening, bring a blanket, a poncho or a coat. There are multiple vendors that sell food (pizza, vegan ice cream and such), though they do not operate every week-day. There's a drinking room inside, which is also where people congregate in the winter. They've got a large variety of their ciders on tap accompanied by helpful descriptions. The bartenders are friendly and will steer you right if you need help making a selection. There's flights and glass pours. The flights are fun - I highly recommend doing it! My friends and I, we do a flight per two people, and then we each order a glass (or two) of our favorites. During cold winter, they also sell hot cider (not-alcoholic), which you can have spiked with apple spirit. On week-end nights, there's often live music playing in the early evening in the big tent / dining hall. It's open air, so bring a blanket or a coat

It is a stark contrast from the consumerist drudgery, hyper-stimulation, and quotidian violence of the modern U.S. market-scape which has metastasized like a bad rash over the land. An alternative way of relating to strangers and community members alike, around long wooden tables, listening to local folk performers stirs up a sense of communality from long-ago genetic and cultural memories. Eating good food, and drinking from a curated collection of ciders each infused and brewed slightly differently makes you feel "rich" in the true sense of humanity and wellbeing. I recommend this unusual vision of communal gathering -- where you can wander between wooden beam-constructed huts in which various food vendors are selling specialty items, then gather to sit down and eat in a large tent. Here you can also enjoy open farm vistas, and explore some planted rows. There is whimsical art festooned around the collection of low-slung huts. The ground is not paved so you can feel as if you are in touch with the earth. My food choice was a bahn mi sandwich which was excellently executed with toasted bread, both tasty and filling. It used a tempeh made with wheat grown in Chimacum itself. It had beautifully pickled daikon, carrots, and cilantro while the mayo was warming. Missing jalapenos were compensated for with chili sauces that you could custom add. I washed this down with a small six ounce glass of a mix of ciders because I couldn't decide my favorite flavors (strawberry infused cider was my jam that day). Be aware that food vendors will be different depending on the day of your visit. I feel that the care & finesse with which the bahn mi was executed is an indication of the high caliber of curated, prepared food available for purchase at this "farm" experience. Get back to the land and lower your blood pressure at Finn River Farm and Cidery!

So I'm a cosplayer and my hair has to be cut exactly like what I am cosplaying or god forbid I have to wear a wig. I hate wigs... First ask for Granny as I can only vouch for her, as I haven't been stylied by anyone else yet. I asked for my hair to be cut like Ramona Flowers. I showed her two pictures. One of the side and one of the front. My hair looks exactly like Ramona Flowers hair. I mean exactly! It's is the best hair cut I have ever received! Note: Do not be a ninja like me when you walk in lol. She didn't even know I was there and I set her back 20 minutes. I really am sorry about that. She was beyond polite though about it. When you walk in politely tell someone your there for a hair appointment as this place is big and the chair location sucks. They can't see you over the desk. I guess I should have mentioned that?

They also charge every student a different tuition and are the least professional people I have ever met. That said, Granny does her very best to be a good teacher and is really kind to the students. As a salon I would caution people to never go there, they do not take sanitation seriously at all - re use disposable pedicure baths, do not properly clean implements, etc. When the health dept. comes in everyone runs around to try and make things look up to par. Seriously avoid this place. I know, I went there.
