Have you ever had major foot and/or ankle pain? I have and it is not fun at all! As a matter of fact, it can be pretty miserable. Especially if you have an ingrown toenail and you have to put that puppy in a high heel... this was me when I moved to AZ a couple of years ago. As you can imagine, I wanted to get this taken care of asap. So, I asked around for a podiatrist referral, but no one I asked had anyone to recommend. I took it into my own hands and consulted the Phoenix Magazine 'Best Doctors' edition... low and behold, there was an article there about Dr. Andrew Lowy. I was apprehensive about taking advice from a magazine, but it worked. I hate doctors offices and hospitals as much or more than anybody I know. I hate giving blood, getting shots, taking medicine, etc... and I pass out pretty easily too. The experience of going to the doctor is never fun, but if you have to go, Dr. Lowy and his staff will make it as painless as possible... From the initial phone call to set the appointment, the staff was actually friendly and prepared me for the visit. They made sure that I knew where the office was and that I had all of the paperwork that i needed to complete in advance. They called to confirm my appointment as well. (Unfortunately, this is not always the case I've found with other doctors, etc.). Dr. Lowy has a great bedside manner. He is personable, sincere, and does not rush the visit... Probably one of the best decisions I made was getting bunion surgery. The next smart decision I made was finding Dr. Lowy's office. I've been going to him for a number of years. I've had foot issues from an early age most likely from forcing my poor feet into shoes that were no good for them. I had my first bunion surgery when I was 25 before I knew Dr. Lowy. After airing ToeGate on facebook, my sister the nurse insisted I see a doctor for my big toe injury. Tripped. At home. Wish it was a more exciting story. Like I was a salsa dancing on a cruise ship when it hit an iceberg and I stubbed my toe. Or I was helping an old lady who fell on a moving sidewalk but just as I saved her from tumbling and surely sustaining a hip injury, I rammed my toe as the sidewalk ended. Or I was auditioning for the all male version of the Phoenix Rocketts and I wasn't as graceful in heels as I once was... Anyhoo...my visit got off to a dicey start as they had me in for Thursday and had Wednesday written down. So I waited in the swanky waiting room, big leather chairs, good magazines...no TV however and I was forced to listen to really slow music and it was quite hot in the waiting room so I was drifting in and out of sleep. Doctor came out said they would see me. My toe smiled. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. I was in and out, including x rays in about 30 minutes. Toe not broken. Just a contusion. I was referred to Dr. Lowy by my primary care physician and a family member. I made an appt. with Dr. Lowy's office and was greeted very kindly as a new patient. It took some deep thought and consideration to make my decision, to go through with the recommended joint replacement surgery on my big toe. It would be a 4-6 week recovery. I am so very happy I went through with the surgery on Sept. 28th, 2012. I was very nervous prior to surgery, and at each office appointment. Dr. Lowy was extremely kind, reassuring and patient in answering all my many questions. He demonstrated total commitment and excellent communication in caring for me. During my post-op appt. Dr. Lowy gave me the encouragement and support I needed for a healthy recovery. Once again, being very patient in addressing my concerns and questions. I scheduled my bunion surgery for February 1st & immediately was inundated with horror stories of prolonged pain & immobility. As my bunion was causing significant discomfort, I felt I had no choice. As a critical care nurse, I'm on my feet many shifts for 12-13 hours without a break & felt I couldn't tolerate the pain (which was bound to worsen) until retirement. My surgery went without a hitch & I couldn't have been more pleased or relieved with my post-op care & recovery. By following Dr Lowy's instructions & taking anti-inflammatory & analgesic meds, my discomfort was very tolerable. Dr Lowy's staff couldn't be more professional or helpful & you really know they all care about your results! Next year I plan of repeating the surgery on my other foot & will go into it without the dread I experienced with the first one! I'm heading back to work & know my repaired foot can handle it. I had foot surgery to correct a bunion issue and remove a neuroma on September 7, 2018. Prior to the surgery, throughout the surgical process and follow up the experience has been great. Dr. Lowy was recommended to me and I'm so glad I used him. He explains everything, takes his time with you and is always available if you have problems or questions. He has told me several times to work my foot, press the toe down and do some physical therapy during the healing process. I see one review that complained about this but if the patient doesn't do the after care this could be a problem. The recovery has been more difficult than I expected but now in week three I'm starting to see progress and less pain. read more

I saw Dr. Lowy to have my orthotics re-done he stated it would be $50.00 and take 2 weeks no problem. Dr. Lowy said that all I need to do is to tape my arch till I got the orthotics back no problem! Got the bill and he charged me $65.00 for putting tape on my foot! I called 5 other DPM doctor offices and the all told me the samething that should have been included in the office visit. His office staff is friendly, professional and very efficient. This is always a good sign!! My wife had a very large bunion on her foot for decades and she was referred to Dr. Lowy by our primary physician who said he was the best in town, and Dr. Lowy did not disappoint. From the moment we met with Dr. Lowy we confirmed this was the right doctor to help us. He was very personable, great sense of humor and so knowledgeable. On the day of the surgery, we were really impressed with his surgical facility and staff as well. Everyone made us feel comfortable, especially my wife who had just undergone a procedure last year. She said she felt so much calmer and relaxed here. The surgery went just as he described and their follow-up care is amazing. This was my second visit to Dr. Lowy, this time to treat an ingrown toenail. I really like Dr. Lowy and the procedure went very smoothly. My only complaint : I had the procedure right before a long weekend, and got an infection. Dr. Lowy had no emergency backup, and hadn't given me any preemptive antibiotic Rx, and I ended up having to go to urgent care. He would get 5 stars except for that. read more

Dr. Lowy has treated me for two ingrown toenails. The first was in 2010, more than 8 years ago. He effectively corrected the large toenail on my right foot. About two weeks ago he removed the nail on one of my small toes on the other foot to remedy a very seriously ingrown nail. Both surgeries went very smoothly with minimal discomfort and virtually no 'down time' post surgery. I can highly recommend Dr. Lowy and his staff. I received thoughtful, efficient care. I was referred to Dr. Lowy by a friend who had bunion surgery. I had spoken to other Dr.'s who had told me I needed to stay completely off my feet for 6 weeks. That doesn't work. I am a realtor and clearly I needed to be able to be more mobile. My friend had said what a great job Dr. Lowy had done and the pain was absolutely minimal. I had my bunion surgery 6/21/13. Virtually pain free. 2 screws! The experience was 100% better than I had anticipated. I had dreaded and put this surgery off for years because of the perceived notion of the awful recovery. Dr. Lowy suggests an ice boot, which my friend had also said was the key to her quick recovery. They were right! My surgery was 4 weeks ago today and I am out of the "big boot". for almost a week I was suffering with an ingrown nail that I had tried to trim down myself like I usually do but this particular time it ended badly and it was painful and it bled and I could barely walk. I work full time as a transportation aide for special needs kids so I'm up and down all day on and off my feet from 6 am to 4:30 pm. it's important that I can walk and stand comfortably. two days ago, my mom was tired of me being in pain so she found Dr. Lowy's office and read all of the great reviews and she made me an appointment for that same afternoon. I took the afternoon off and I went. the nurses were phenomenally nice and they cared a lot. I had made the mistake of watching toenail removals online to know what to expect so they knew how scared I was. my toe hurt so bad and I don't have a good pain tolerance. I was terrified tbh. but they made sure that I knew that I would taken care of numbed 100% before the produce took place. then I met Dr. Lowy and he knew exactly what he wanted to do to my toe and he was also really straightforward and nice. he made me feel like I was in good hands. he told me he would only he taking a sliver off the right side of my toenail including that ingrown and putting a chemical down underneath where the cells are to form nail growth and kill them so that this piece of nail he was taking out would never grow back. my skin will simply grow over to the remainder of my nail and I will never even notice that he took nail out. he gave me the anesthetic and informed me that this would be the hardest part. he sprayed this cold stuff on my toe so that I barely felt the needle and asked me if I felt the spray and I was like yeah wow that's cold and he explained what it was and he told me when he all done and then he left the room for a good 10 minutes while another nurse idk his name came in and explained how to treat my toe afterwards and talked about any questions or concerns I had and he said "I heard about how nervous you are" and I was like yeah and he told me that they would make sure it's completely numb before he even came back into the room. he tapped on my toe to see how numb I was too. he was also very nice and funny. then Dr. Lowy came in and tapped all corners and sides of my toe to make sure I was ready and I was. he did the whole thing in under 3 minutes. it was absolutely mind blowing. I then asked for a doctors note thinking I would need like a week or two off and he said "no you can go back tomorrow" I was so surprised and he explained that there wouldn't even be pain the next day. the night of my procedure was the hardest because when the numbing wore off it did burn. but I woke i love you the next morning with absolutely no pain! I had one day off and back to work the next and I've been wearing my nikes and everything has been great. I'm so glad I got this done. please go to Dr. Lowy if you have foot and ankle problems. you will be taken care of and you will be problem free afterwards. if you are getting something done like me or need this done, wear sandals to your appointment as the dressing he will put on will be very thick and secure. there won't be any blood as he puts a tight tourniquet on. you can trust this place. read more

I am a recently retired RN from Flagstaff. I searched on-line and found Dr. Lowy was not only a podiatrist but also a foot surgeon, so I took a chance and went to see him. I was impressed with his courteous staff and knowledgeable nurses. I went to see him because I had an ingrown toenail. I was nervous because I would soon be going on vacation and wanted to make sure it wouldn't hinder my ability to walk. I had an appointment with Dr. Lowy. They called me in, and I sat there in this small room, with no air!!! They had no air conditioning on, and the temperature was 118!!! They put a small little fan on that hits you right in your face! It was boiling in there! The assistant came in to do paper work and right away they wanted to take an xray of my foot! I was only there for calluses. I told her I just had had an xray done 5 weeks ago, at my orthopedic office. So I kept waiting for Dr. Lowy, in this hot boiling room. Then he opens the door and said Oh I'm making my rounds!! What the heck was that about? Never said how much longer or anything. I was in there one hour waiting! He made a very bad impression, and too cheap to have the air on in 118 weather! I got up and left, I told the receptionist I waited way too long, then the doctor says he is making his rounds, they should never had called me in if they were not ready. He never even said sorry about the delay, or anything.There are plenty of other podiatrists out there to go too. So if you do not want to wait forever in a horrible hot stuffy office, and told he is making his rounds, I would skip this place, and go to a doctor who really cares how he treats his patients. read more

I can't say I had a good experience with Dr. Lowy, DMP in Phoenx. He came highly recommended to me too, by my primary doctor and by another DMP that I had been seeing for years. The DMP that I had been seeing for years no longer did surgery because of arthritis in his hands, but he was still very knowledgeable. So I went to Dr. Lowy, waited a long time in the waiting room, and then saw the doctor for five minutes or so, and was told that I needed to have bunion surgery and surgery for a hammertoe. I knew about the bunion, that's why I went there in the first place. I knew I needed to have that surgery. Now, I had been seeing this other DMP for at least five years, and there was no mention of a hammertoe problem. I had no problem or complaints with my toe. It did not retract or rub on the inside of my shoe. I tried to say there was nothing wrong with that toes and it did not need surgery. Well, Lowy went nuts and really yelled about how he was the best in the state and he know better. I reluctantly had the surgery, remember he came highly recommened. That was the biggest mistake of my life!!! The bunion surgery went well, but not the hammertoe surgery. I now have a "corrected" toe that sticks way up and lays on top of my third toe, as well as nerve damage. Shoes that don't rub that toe are very hard to find. I went back to him post-op and showed him my toe, and he said all I had to do was tape it and it would stay down. I told him I never had any problem with that toe before surgery, and again he yelled at me that he was the best in the state and never made mistakes. Well, I never went back to him, and I think he just did an unnecessary surgery to bill the insurance company. Worse, I have been told by a third DMP that to "fix" the toe Lowy "corrected" I need to have another surgery. I think this DMP is a quack!!! read more
