At that time, we were Sri Lankan newcomers to Canada, faced with the double daunting task of buying a house within the boundary of a certain school. My husband had found his first job in Guelph and was travelling daily from Brampton where we lived, which made it even harder. We knew next to nothing about Guelph except that its old-world charm and serenity were tugging at our heartstrings as it reminded us so much of our beloved Sri Lankan hill capital, Kandy. I still remember the very first phone call from Glenda. I felt as if I had just spoken with somebody I knew. When I met her two weeks later, I got to know what a warmhearted lady she was. We were in good hands! Phew!! Glenda listened intently to our needs - a kitchen with a window for me; a roomy garage for my husband; hardwood and tile on the floors; up-stair bedrooms; a backyard facing East; no walk-out basement, etc,etc ....... all in a house within an ever-changing school boundary! Well, our house hunt began. Glenda spearheaded the search with infectious zeal and remarkable professionalism. We formed a team. Our foundation was understanding, patience and trust. Glenda was a mother to us. She steered us clear of cracked basements, grow houses, damp & mouldy buildings, etc . She didn't want our house by a busy road - we had two kids. I wasn't driving at that time, so she made sure there was a bus-stop within reach. She was so committed that she would even check the condition of the appliances included. She just didn't want any ugly surprises awaiting us after we buy the house. My husband still remembers with deep respect, one freezing evening of late fall when Glenda waited with him outside a house on Silurian Drive. It had taken the seller's agent more than 2 hours to make a 10-minute decision! It was the seller's loss, but we witnessed yet again Glenda's wholehearted dedication to her cause. She was God-sent to us. 18 months of unwavering perseverance later, we were blessed with our " home sweet home" that we live in today. The wait has been well worth it. The gratitude we have in our hearts for Glenda is immeasurable. Glenda was introduced to us by a friend whose own house Glenda had helped him buy 35 years ago. MF property management actually deserves ZERO stars. They are not responsive to requests, and they…read moremost definitely don't have their paperwork in order. Instructions for parking change without your knowledge and if you don't comply you get a ticket from the security service they hired. If any repair is necessary in the unit (initiated by MF) you get a warning 3 business days before, informing you that if you do not provide your keys, the door will be opened with the help of a locksmith (and for sure "Any charges for a locksmith to open your doors will be charged back to you.") They have been notified that garbage keeps lying around and attracts skunks - nothing was done about it. I am seriously wondering what the condominium fee is for. In addition, depending on which property manager is responsible for your unit, you also get a very unfriendly treatment (if you get a reply that is...).
