After my disappointments with Monticello Animal Hospital, I thought I'd give Anderson's Veterinary Hospital a chance - the only other vet in town. I took my tiny, little cat for her annual vaccination and to check the coughing and sneezing she was experiencing. The waiting room/reception area was very small, and three pet owners and two large dogs makes it claustrophobic. I was annoyed when the vet asked which assistant wanted to help her with my cat, and they told each other, "You do it". "No, you do it". It doesn't make me feel welcomed or like they give care about me, my cat, or their job. One of them looked like he just started high school.
After a short wait in the lobby, we waited another 20 minutes in the cramped, little exam room. I had a lot of time to take in the lack of update or decor to the rooms and building since circa 1970. If they didn't spend any money on upgrading the place, I wondered if they spent any money on the necessary medical equipment. I am going to guess that they don't have an oxygen chamber.
When it came time for the exam, they rushed through it. The vet asked me what I thought was wrong with my cat, and I told her I thought it was a respiratory infection. i commented that I was afraid my cat could also have allergies. She listened to her breathing and prescribed an antibiotic, amoxicillin, the same one vet's give for everything that ails a cat, including cysts. I was disappointed she didn't x-ray her lungs to make sure it wasn't asthma or allergies. I felt like she just took my word that it was a respiratory infection, but I'm not a vet or a doctor so why do that? She didn't attempt to test for allergies, but I guess she was in a hurry. When we got the bill, it was $76.00 - not worth the hurried service and poor bedside manners. read more
