And for the value the kids had a good time. We had food at the bar. Typical bowling alley kinda fare. I had the BLT and deep fried mushrooms. The Hubs had the same but had fried pickles instead. They don't have ANY balls less than 9 pounds. I can just about lift the 9-pounders, but it's hard for me to bowl properly because they make my arm twist a bit when I bowl because they are so heavy. I feel like the only way children can even bowl is if they use the alligator ramps that they have off to the side for balls to get pushed off of. The second thing I wanted to mention is their ridiculous "no outside food" rule. My mom and I had just walked over from Butterfly after having a late breakfast to meet some of my family for a couple games when a lady behind the counter refused to let me keep my food inside the building with me, even though I literally told her at least twice that it was just leftovers from butterfly and that it would just be sitting on the table. Not like I would have popped it open to eat it while bowling. I just find it ridiculous that she couldn't just make an exception and allow me to keep my food inside there with me, because it forced me to have to go out to put it in my aunt's trunk until we were done. That was just unnecessary in general because my waffle pieces were in a foam container and nothing was spilling out or anything. I just want to warn people that if you are going there to play after eating at butterfly, I suggest either finishing at the restaurant or throwing your food out if you leave your car parked by Butterfly.

Good company and great weather for a jump, so no worries. Check in was a breeze; there were so MANY waivers to sign then a quick safety video to watch. Listen for your name to be called over the speakers then meet up in the hanger for rules and harness strapping. If you paid for the photo/video package, get ready for your interview. I signed up to jump 9,000 feet but was told that jump was for babies. 14,000 feet would feel like I really did something. Of course, I am giving a look like "this is my first time". But, I smiled and paid an extra 50$ to do a REAL jump. Up in the air we reviewed the training from the hanger. No time to be scared because everything happened so fast. The view is amazing; jumping through the clouds was priceless. I had an amazing coach; Nate. Ask for him. He's got jokes too. Afterwards, we were starving! They give you FREE beer or wine after your jump. It's a celebration, trust me, if you jump, you earned it. The food was amazing. Looking forward to my next jump.

They popped up in my Google search for places near where we were. The owner was super helpful and was also mindful of making sure our last minute check in was contactless to maintain social distancing. The lake is closed right now due to Covid, but it looks lovely. The campground is clean and well maintained, plus every spot has a nice picnic table and a fire pit. We only needed a one night stop over, but it's now definitely on our list to come back to and spend more time there--especially once everything is able to open back up again. Our 8 year old was sad we had to leave! Thank you for a pleasant stay and a wonderful experience!

I first heard about the Mendota run when a cousin of mine (who had lived in the town many years ago) had posted a link to the event to see if anyone would be interested in running it with her. I gotta admit, the distance to Mendota almost kept me from registering, but after seeing the Awesome race Ts they were giving away, I didn't hesitate to hand over my entrance fee. Both 5K and 10K runners went off together when the gun sounded, so the beginning of the run was just a bit crowded, but not bad. The course started from the Mendota Hospital neighborhood and had decent shade for it being such a hot day. However, once we left the residential area and hit the cornfield roads, the sun became pretty brutal. That, along with the constant ascents and descents of the hilly terrain made for a very long 10K. Water stations were abundant, though (1 every mile), and definitely kept us going as the sun was beating down. That, and efficient mile marking took the guesswork out of pacing to finish with our best time possible. Afterward, there wasn't really a whole lot of free grub or drink (which is usually a staple in your better organized events), but I didn't mind. That race T blew all others I've accumulated over the years away. Plus, it was a regular cotton shirt, not a polyester "wicking" one. I like that. All in all, I'd have to say that today's event was a good, small budget affair. Side note: While you're here, take the afternoon and explore the town during Mendota's Sweet Corn Festival going on just down the street. If you like food, crafts and rides for the kids, everyone in your entourage will enjoy themselves no matter what their ages.

The entry fee was very affordable, we got sweet cotton t-shirts with a cute logo printed on them, the volunteers were super helpful and everything went off without a hitch. I showed up just before the race and pretty much only had time to grab my race bib and hurry to the starting line. However, once I got jogging, it was very calm and a pleasant run. My only complaint was the heat and you can't blame MCH for that. The roads were all clear with very few cracks or bumps. The terrain is hilly but not super steep. I took my time and completed the 5K course in about 34 minutes. They had mile markers, clocks and water at the first and second mile with another clock at the end. There I filled up on water and waited around a bit for the awards to be announced. I didn't win anything this year, but maybe next time. It's totally worth the drive! Especially when you get to pass by "Sandwich Rehab" on your way out there.
