Also, there are several other Ibis Hotels in the area luring weary drivers anxious for rest after a day on the road in the wrong direction. After two incorrect Ibises, we finally found the correct one in a dingy industrial area. You have to drive down a dark road through parked trucks to get to the hotel. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance, only industrial concerns. The rooms was uncomfortably tiny, even by European standards. And it was noisy, since the Autopista runs right next to it. I noticed the next morning that both sides of the hotel were exposed to this noise, since the Autopista curves by it. One positive note, the front desk clerk Gwendel was very nice, energetically tending to a full house of guests.

At first things were looking slightly bleak as the weather conditions had resulted in a power cut. However, once power was restored we were not disappointed. Our pool side room was simple but elegant with a modern bathroom and a huge bed - just the place to retreat when weather was not in keeping with a holiday vibe. There was also free WiFi throughout (although this also seemed to be adversely effected by the rain). Best of all was breakfast, a mixture of perfect pastries and a few cooked dishes rustled up by the chefs from Restuarant Gilles Goujon which is situated next to the hotel. Truly delicious.

I was in Narbone for the Salon de la Moto, and decided that I wanted to take my dad for a good meal…read morewith fish. Narbone plate offers a great beach and a large selection of restaurant with fish specialties. When we arrive, the terrace and inside were full, and one of the many waiters asked if we minded to wait at the bar for half an hour. After 20 minutes, our table was ready. I had the fish soup, and the "Moules Gratinees". It was pretty exceptional. My dad and I had a great time and will most likely return in the future. The waiters were super busy, but checked on us several times and the plus is that if you ask, they will give you free wifi. But you must ask, as there us a log in and password for each customer. Parking is a bit challenging as it is in the street, but if you're not afraid of walking, you'll find a spot, and walking will help you digest a bit of this excellent food.
