History
Established in 2000.
In 1979 three local Lutheran congregations of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod came together to form the Lutheran School Association of Anchorage for the purpose of opening the first LCMS Lutheran School in Alaska. Thus resulted the establishment of Anchor Lutheran School (ALS), and the LSAA has conducted its school ministry entirely through Anchor Lutheran since that time. ALS began with just Preschool and Kindergarten on the site of Zion Lutheran Church. In 1980 the First and Second Grades were added. In 1982 the school expanded to a second site, using the campus of Anchorage Lutheran Church in addition to Zion as it added Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades, and Sixth Grade the following year. In 1985 our current facility was completed, and all programs were moved to this location. Our Junior High program was added in 1995, giving us the Preschool - 8th Grade program we enjoy to this day. We first achieved status as a nationally accredited school in 1999, still held today.

Jim serves as the school principal, his 24th year in education. He holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Education Administration. Originally of Chicago, IL, Jim has enjoyed a diverse series of experiences around the nation, but finds his service here in Alaska so far to be his favorite. This is his fourth year at the helm of Anchor Lutheran, and his twelfth overall as an administrator. Additional experiences include teaching 2nd, 5th, and 6th Grade home rooms, Computer instruction for K-8, Physical Education for K-8, and serving as Drama Director, Technology Coordinator, Athletic Director, and coach for many different sports.
