First Visit to Lake Milton Brewery - Now Also a Winery…read more This was our first time visiting Lake Milton Brewery, which has recently added wine to its offerings. When we arrived, we took a look at their wine selection, which included a few reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with some fruit wines. The blackberry wine was quite enjoyable, and while the Cab wasn't our favorite, it wasn't bad either. Since the brewery was the original focus here, I was excited to try some of the beers--especially Cole's Kölsch--but unfortunately, they were out. I then asked for the Irish Red, but that was also unavailable. I sampled the IPA, but it didn't have the flavor profile of a traditional IPA, and the only beer they had on tap was the Loveless Lager. While lagers are typically a safe choice, this one tasted a bit flat, lacking carbonation. I was also really looking forward to trying the Ale Bunny Blonde Ale, which is a tribute to Ed O'Neil--best known as an actor but also a former football player from Youngstown, OH. He even played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969 under the legendary Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll, arguably one of the best NFL coaches of all time. Unfortunately, that beer wasn't available during our visit either. It's possible we caught them on an off day, but despite that, the woman we spoke with was incredibly kind and welcoming. She shared that they've been open for four years, and I can definitely see this being a popular spot in the warmer months with the right atmosphere and offerings. We'll likely give it another try in the summer to see how the experience compares.

This is a solid bar and grill. A four star in the solid dive bar and grill category!…read more Great prices on the food, daily drink specials. Gots a pool table and dart board, nice loud juke box. What more do you need? And really, it's a two. But bonus points for cheap good food and friendly service. So an unapologetic four star review. And right across the street from a Dairy Queen, so cheap desert. Just one of those places you gotta stop in at. Just to check it out. I liked it. The wife liked it. What more can you ask? Next time I'll order some food. Take some pix. Post those. Really, a nice "bar" type bar.

This is a 1-star dive, but my brother-in-law adds 2 stars…read more This place is his therapy. I stopped in with the wife last Saturday afternoon for a little impromptu birthday celebration (his). Three Gennies (on draft, my "plumbing" hasn't settled yet) later, we were on our way. The day was charted out as a couple of wineries in the Grand River Valley, but I knew if we saw his car there, we'd stop in. It was his birthday after all, that day. His smile made it all worth while, even if my clothes will never smell right again. (How do you get that bar-maid smell out of a nice shirt? Anyone?) Really, it didn't smell that bad and the clientele were what you'd expect. The barmaid showed us the picture of her wedding on the beach in Myrtle Beach. It's her wallpaper on her phone. Yep, complete with the story of the Harley ride right onto the dance floor at Johnny's (I think that's what she said), where her groom dropped her off in full white gown. Not kidding. But again, this is what makes the world go around. The beers were $1 a piece. I bought a round for $3.25. What do you tip on that? My rule would dictate $.65. Can't do that. She's got to pay for that veil after all. I love my brother-in-law like a brother and it was all I needed when I walked in and saw that look on his face. I can't say you'll get the same reaction, so you might find the place a 1-star even with the wedding pix.
