Going to see a new stylist can be nervous wracking and in my case of slow growing hair, I was…read morenervous to try a new place out. I opted out on my usual stylist as I'm currently low on funds. DO NOT be like me and just assume the yelp price, $35 is the price you will be paying. On Haven Hair Studio & Spa website it lists, $35 ON UP depending on different variations. I requested to see the Owner of the salon, Kari. She was friendly and easy to talk to, which was comforting. The salon was clean, and trendy. I was offered tea, or water. The reasons for the missing three stars. My hair cut was horrible. Not only did my hair not turn out how I tried to communicate, it was cut badly. I enjoy some choppy layers, but there was no rhyme or reason for the random layers in my hair. Now we have all had bad hair cuts, but to be charged $60 dollars to get literally less then four inches cut off was shocking. I am still confused if this salon charges by length or time. If it was time, I hope the salon can manage it more wisely. I called the salon a few hours after returning home asking if some weight could be cut from the top layers. I was treated very kindly by the other stylist(forgot her name) and was able to get in the next day. Kari was out of town at the time but still went out of her way to call and ask about the concerns of my hair. After explaining how I felt like my hair was too soft and I wasn't very happy with it, I was told to wait a few weeks to get used to my hair and live in it. That I had received the style I had shown her via picture. In a couple months she could go back through my hair after knowing more about how the texture works to get a better idea of that I want. Not knowing how much your hair cut can come up to, i wouldn't recommend this salon to friends or family just based on that. I realize we all have personal preferences to how we like our hair to be cut, but this was a bad hair cut for a really really high price.

Third time's the charm, folks…read more I've had a tough time finding a stylist who can give a decent haircut in the area. It's been a lot of disappointments and a lot of hats. I think I can put my hats away now: Megan knows how to cut hair. I gave her the same spiel I'd given the other stylists: I have a history of funky hair and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm growing it out, but I'd rather have it take longer and have my hair look good along the way. I also told her I was really nervous after my last couple haircuts in the tri-cities. For the first time, I felt heard. She explained her game plan for growing out while keeping it looking tidy. She asked how I liked to style it, asked what kind of product I liked to use, and set to snip-snipping away and thinning out my thick and heavy hair. She was chatty and friendly and overall delightful. Best of all? I have a haircut I like. I look and feel like myself. After a couple months of looking and feeling frumpy, it feels great to be back to normal.

I DIDN'T TRUST ANYONE. but it started to look...bad. something needed to be done if my self esteem was to remain remotely intact. reasons im hair-nervous? 1) im a hairdresser myself, and incredibly picky. 2.) i've had the same person do my hair for a really, really long time. 3.) i like my hair funky. and people's definitions of "funky" can sometimes be more on the tame side. in better words- my hair requests can freak even a season stylist out. i researched like a mad woman, and just felt this good vibe about three little birds. i took my xanax (im just kidding) and headed megan's way. i was put at ease seriously seconds after i walked in and saw her smiling face waiting to greet me. megan LISTENS. she gives a good head massage. she uses great products (kenra). the aesthetic of the salon was comforting. she's effing hilarious. she understands my funkiness. best part? she knows her stuff. 2legit2quit4real it was a little hard to give over money when you've been used to getting cuts for free (barter system, you rock) BUT $45 for her services is a steal, you guys. she was worth every damn penny. my mullet is gone. my layers are light and refreshed. my bangs aren't all up in my grill and they swoop to the side perfectly. im the prettiest belle of the ball. sad im living in the area only until the end of summer- im going to dream up some hair adventures so i can see megan a few more times!!

I've known Daya for 39 years (I'm in my 60's now) she did my long hair & perms for years back then,…read moreand with the exception of perms it's still the style I fly with but this review is OF Ashley, and FOR Daya. I moved to Texas but spend half my year in TC helping my elderly parents, so I've been cutting my own hair while I bounce back and forth between states, I was in dire need of getting it trimmed back into shape and needed someone I could trust, so I tracked Daya down again. I told her I was leaving town in 3 days, but she was booked out, so she was going to book me with Ashley. I asked her if she trusted her and if I could? She told me she did, and that Ashley had been there for a number of years. So I booked the appointment. I don't know Ashley, so I spent several hours going through phone photos putting together an album of the best close up hair style shots I had. When I arrived we spent about 40+ minutes of me showing her photos of my style and what I wanted, her telling me how she really liked the 80's hair styles, me going back to where I want fullness and how I style my hair, her love of the 80's again, some celebrity style likeness questions - that I didn't answer because I just wanted her to see my pictures and cut that style. (I've done the same cut 40+ years and it gives me the flexibility to get different looks if I want by styling my hair and not cutting it into a style with no options). I also emphasized I needed as little taken off as possible to please my husband, she promised me she would take off just a minuscule amount. So the 40 minutes of me trying to tell her what I WANTED was an exercise in debate and frustration. I'm not a beautician and I don't know the terminology in how to get my style back...whether it's needing layering or feathering, (I do know it requires scissors verses a razor tool the way I do it) But that's what I wanted when I booked the appointment and when I arrived. (I had several up-coming trips and needed to be able to style my hair fast the way I always have). She told me she's a gal with a heart for the 80's, and shags or Olivia Newton John type cuts....but again, that's not what I told her I WANTED ‍, and the more I tried to convey my desires over hers was an endless and exhausting futile effort and I finally wore out, but hoped she would take what I said, and her agreed upon limit of cutting length, and I put my hair's fate in her skilled hands. Needless to say, after she finished I had a shag hair cut and my minuscule amount of hair taken off was never her goal. I could cry every time I look in a mirror from that moment to this, and Daya's advice was to go home and work with it. Well I bought all new hair length tools in the smallest size possible, and spent over a week with visible scabs on my forehead from burns because I don't even have enough bangs for those tools and still don't a month and a half out from that regretful day! Ashley is sweet and personable, but my review of our conversation and her abilities to understand and recognize when someone goes to the effort to make an album to show pictures of what they want, should be a simple "I can do that" or "I can't do that and here's why, it's not a try and sell someone on what you like instead. That's an appointment that starts with "I want to try something new but don't know what I want". So I ended up wasting my time twice and hers once with pictures!! I'm not sure whether the cut I got was because that's what she knows, or just what SHE likes to do? The 2 things I'm thankful for are: that I am retired, and I don't have to let the world see me every single day with ugly hair!!!! The other is my husband used to complain every time he saw me cutting my own hair and was constantly voicing his frustration that I wouldn't go to a salon and have a professional do it, (I've been cutting my own hair since the last time I had someone do half this bad of a job, and that was over 20 years ago) Now he's reminded every time he looks at me how that worked out and He's not singing that tune anymore!!!! Sorry, I hate the way I look so bad I don't want to immortalize the cut with pictures. FYI, I also don't post reviews unless I have something good to say, but I feel my bad experience could help Ashley and you both. Ashley, I'm going to be living thru this ugly hair phase for many more months ahead and that won't be the end of all this, as when I finally get some hair to work with again, it will have to be cut going the opposite direction of the way you cut it, and I will avoid picture memories with me in them, till this ends just so I don't have to look at myself this way ever again! That's the result of not Listening and HEARING your client! So please remember, at the beginning of your day, you are getting paid to listen and hear the client. Lori S.
