Mostly based on the children's section, I call this a 5 star library. Of course there are loads of books, but also a lot of other resources and programs for kids. Head to the computer lab with your kiddo and have them play Spanish language learning games. Go to the fiction section and there's an art table to the left where kids can color. Check out the "parenting" section and find books and activities that help boost your confidence in parenting your child through different developmental milestones. They even have some early learning packs with activities to take home and do with your littles, like music with shaker eggs (percussion) and colorful scarves. The summer reading program is a bonus too. Kids can earn prizes for reading books and then there's a party at the end of the summer to celebrate all the reading that was done! Librarians all seem to care about patrons finding what they need, and they have created enriching spaces for kids, youth, and adults to luxuriate in reading and learning. read more

First and foremost the library is so beautiful....I havent been in years (11+). The layout and everything was just amazing. Robin at the informations desk was so helpful and her customer service was A+++++. I was there to print copies of a file I needed. They have a QR code that you scan and you just follow the directions (but that would be too easy for me.) She had to basically walk me through it because some things came up and she (wanted to troubleshoot the problem with me.) She was so kind, polite and super patient. Some one give her a raise. The printer downstairs was busy so she directed me to the printer upstairs. Also my mom and I decided we were going to get library cards after we were done. Matt was at the printing stations upstairs and he also walked me through all the aspects of printing out what I needed. He was also kind and patient. When we were on our way out, we talked to Letty at the check out desk who helped us open our library cards. She explained all the amenities that came with the card. Everyone who works here are so kind and helpful. They go above and beyond to make sure you get everything you needed to get done. We will definitely come back to check everything out more in depth. read more

So happy that the library is open now on Saturdays 10-5pm! I'm surprised there's a library like Central in Anaheim. Everything's in good condition. The second floor has an amazing children's floor that's decorated better than my expectations. I love the little forest reading area and the big giraffe. Prior to coming in I placed a book hold on Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin via the website. Received a text that the book was available for pick up and came in. I went to a self check-out station. Unfortunately I got an error regarding my pin. Waited in line at the check out desk and got held up because a teen was getting her teen library card. Fortunately somebody nearby felt my pain waiting with the heavy book and let me know that Angelica could help me at the Rental Media desk. I told her about the issue at the self check-out and she said to get someone next time because sometimes those machines are glitchy. She got my book checked out for me quick. Overall, a pleasant experience. After the ordeal I had with a damaged book at Sunkist Library I quickly skimmed the book to look out for damages. None at all. The book was brand new. When I was done with the book I simply dropped it off after hours through the return book slot out front. read more

The graphic novel section is the best I've seen in the Orange County libraries so far, and there are even more on the second floor (so they might be separating the ones for general readers and more mature readers, but it's an inconsistent separation, and most people wouldn't get or care about the distinction). You can only check out 10 items for the first month after you get your card, but it's 35 after that. (Double-check me on that, but I think that's it. I recall it being a surprising amount.) Obtaining a library card is easy & free--just show up with a proof-of-residence (I used my CA DL). There's an online system that allows you to check inventory, place holds, and extend your due date. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!!!Absolute RUDEST employees EVER! I would give NEGATIVE stars if I could. The library hours are normally until 7pm, but today, Wednesday 11/27, they were "closing at 5pm for Thanksgiving". NOWHERE including Anaheim.net, Yelp, Apple Maps, or Google Maps were the adjusted hours posted. AT LEAST should be posted on city website for citizens and others to be aware of. All EIGHT employees who were hovering in the lobby just waiting to run out the front door were EXTREMELY RUDE. ALL computers on upper floor were off and inaccessible prior to 4:45pm and the top floor was being closed at that time. If the library is open until FIVE PM then EVERYTHING should be open and available. I understand that they wanted to get their holiday weekend started early, but the unprofessionalism and RUDENESS was uncalled for. The city will get an email and phone call also. read more

Books! Books! Books! Libraries are heaven for me and when I found out that this library was 2 floors I nearly fainted. The library is so cool! They have a huge children's area that is decorated pretty cool. Unfortunately, my 13 year old doesn't enjoy that stuff anymore so may need to bring a friends kid or my friends kids to hang out there. They have an area that looks like an old Blockbuster video. You can rent DVD's to catch up on any movies you have to watch. They have a pretty good selection and also have a section for new releases. It's pretty cool. They have a huge YA section too and I was able to find a lot of books that I want to read. There are also computers along the area to use for research or to find stuff within the database. The second floor has a lot of adult fiction books, newspapers, study rooms, and a huge sitting area to relax and read a book or newspaper. I haven't got a chance to check out the basement so that will be my next visit. Also, I want to check out some of the events they have. A lot of the events sounds cool and memorable. read more

It's been 45 years since I have been inside the Anaheim Central Library. I was a little nervous to return, fearing that time would not have been kind to the building both inside and out but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was thriving. The inside is vastly different than I remember it all those years ago; the outside however has been untouched by time except perhaps with the exception of cosmetic upgrades here and there. The children's area is really different (much larger and with a darling entrance). We went on a day they were having a book sale out front so it was nice to pick up a few used books and magazines. The WiFi it's great at times but other times it's slow. We usually hit up the study rooms, book them for 2 hours. Staff is great, always helpful. One of my new favorite things to do with my two toddlers is to come to this Library. It is seriously the coolest library I've ever seen... there are three stories and a big half of the 1st floor is dedicated to the children. MAJOR PLUS. They have various toddler mornings that we love attending not to mention the joy of seeing my toddlers get excited to pick out a book and movie before leaving. THE BEST There is one staff member in particular who has a wonderful disposition & we've been fortunate to have her assist us upon check out every time so far. Shout out to Susi! You're awesome! I am extremely grateful for an establishment that embraces the younglings and provides a safe place for them to learn such as this library. One other good library in Anaheim. Right next to a police station and a school lies a great number if books and magazines. Staff here are professional and once in a while you get some weird and dangerous transient people hanging around here. Few years ago a staff member was attacked by some loony person here, Well actually i take that back. It was a male staff member assaulted here. But they caught the criminal and library is safer now. The library is nice and clean with many areas to sit and do work. I haven't checked out the book collections they have there just yet. I visited for the wifi to do work because I lack wifi at my new place. The wifi was very slow, so it was difficult to finish my work timely. The parking is great and spacious, so don't worry about finding parking. Overall, it was a great experience! I plan on coming back to learn more about this library. This is a beautifully furnished and decorated library with plenty of information and materials available to the public. The first floor was open and comfortably furnished, despite the nooks and crannies. The upper level was very comfortable for kids and adults, and offered plenty of reading space for everyone. Along with a creative space, there was a sense of openness the library had that made homeless, children, working, and elderly people, alike, comfortable and equals. There was no discrimination, a large parking lot, next to a big street and the police station. I would imagine that they are quite safely situated. read more

Huge library with adorable decor! I love all libraries really no matter what but this one is special. First off this and other associated libraries are part of the Anaheim public library system, not the OC public library system. So you will need an Anaheim public library card. It's easy and free to sign up. Right now is a limited edition Snoopy library card but if you already have a card here just pay $1 to upgrade. Perks besides checking out books, CDs, and DVDs are the audio and ebook available on the app. Located near Rare the Goodwill store, there's plenty of parking. Like most libraries there are homeless people who are either in front of the library or inside. I personally don't mind them since I know they really do depend on public spaces for restrooms and shade. However, I know the smell or just general uneasiness people have around homeless people might be an issue. The decor inside is really welcoming and makes you feel really happy. The bathrooms are downstairs and there is a cart for your library books as you're not allowed to bring them in there of course. There's homework help for kids, a computer lab, a Spanish books section, a new books section, and even meeting rooms by the restrooms downstairs for groups to reserve. The Spanish books section has current favorites like The Girl on the Train and Four from the Divergent series. I'll be sure to stop by again! read more

This is an awesome library especially if you have kids! I bring both my children here ( 6 yr old and 18 months) so many books to choose from and they also have media you can rent for $2 for a week. During the summer they have a reading program for kids and for each 5 books they read they earn a free book to keep. They also have games for them to win prizes! Central branch is one of the few places you'll find people from every age group, race/nationality and walk of life in one place. There's plenty of parking (both for bikes and cars) and it's located next door to the police station making it a little safe. It's a family friendly library with lots of books to choose from and if they don't carry it at this branch they can always have it inter-officed to them from another branch. It's two stories, they have a dedicated children's section with lots of book clubs and events for them after school and on Saturday's. They also offer free wi-fi! This library seems great. I just bought a house around the corner and quickly came here to get a card and ultimately a card for my two kids. The library has a few issues wih their procedures or at least the enforcing or interpretation of the rules. My son was not allowed to access a computer the other day, because he did not have his card and when I asked about the temporary id number machine- she said that was only for non card holders... so kids who have a card, but cannot present it, are somehow less qualified users than non members... when I questioned the sensibility of this, the lady gave me this look like I was crazy to question this rule, as if it's not completely ridiculous. read more

I love the Anaheim Central Library. They have a huge children's library area completely separate from adults and juvenile area. There are lots of tables for studying, tutoring, and homework. A plethora of chapter books, series books, fiction, non-fiction, beginning readers, picture books, baby board books, and toys for the small ones. Books books books galore and a staff that is kind and very very helpful. They have numerous computers available for grades 6 and below which is helpful for my son to practice his JiJi math and typing. Very easy to use and quite. There are also about 8 toddler computers where my younger son can work on easy reader learning games. I came here on a random tuesday to study before getting some yogurt at oh my god yogurt which is like 3 blocks down the street. Overall, pretty quiet library where you can get some work done. There are a lot of high school/middle school kids here seeming to be doing some studying. +1 for me taking a nap here and no one bothering me +1 for opening pretty late (8pm) and plenty of parking. +1 for fast free open wifi. -1 for having no plugs except 2 small table next to the walls. Located in Downtown Anaheim offering a wide selection of different amenities! The library has books, music, movies and magazine available for rent! They also have a computer room with about 20 computers! The library membership is free and very easy to obtain. All they required was a form and a valid ID with my current address. Within minutes I was able to use the computer lab and print something out. When using the printer, each page cost .15 cents. Not bad. All the employees are very generous and the selection of material is impressive. TIP: the movie rentals here are cheaper than REDBOX. 2 day movie rental are only $1. I have been here and still yet undecided to return to the location. This library was home to a volunteer work that was over the summer. THE staff was helpful and understands the concerns but clearly THE BIG problem is the homeless people in this location. Especially a man who was a war veteran who talks REALLY loud! I couldn't concentrate and had to move on to the second floor of the library. It may sound like a good location for people to take their children, teens and adults but truly a disappointment of the problems here making this place scored a 6/10 and overall a GOOD location. read more

I really do like this library- It's newer, it's nicely decorated, there are tons of place to charge your devices, etc. My main beef with this place is their high school volunteers. They're so loud and annoying it's hard to get any work done. When I would move to get away from them, they'd start doing their library chores in the same room. I'm not sure if they were not told by the library staff that libraries are supposed to be... uhm quiet? But they're super disruptive. They weren't even doing any work, I saw them dancing around and laughing. Aside from that, another yelper mentioned that kids are allowed to roam around the entire library. That might seem like a silly thing to complain about but seriously... who wants a bunch of 4 year olds running around the adult section causing chaos and tons of noise? I guess it's unfair to assume their parents (or library staff) would do something about it. Honestly, I guess I'll come here when I have to get work done. They're typically open until 8pm and that's kind of nice. But if you're coming here, bring a set of headphones and plug in some study session music because you won't be getting peace and quiet here. read more

This place is very organized now after they have remodeled it. I remember sitting in the kids section and being read stories in front of the miniature house. It is no longer there since the place is more interactive and that house has been now replaced with computers. Oh how I missed the days of looking through index cards to find the numbers for my books! It is now all categorized online like all libraries. There are now three different sections according to age. Mostly non-adult material is downstairs and all adult non-fiction/ fiction is upstairs.There are also study rooms upstairs if you have a group to work on projects and such. Lots of movies and audio Cd's are available for rental. Checking out books is a breeze and renewing books over the phone is great when I tend to forget the due dates. People are super friendly and willing to help. read more

I really like to bring my daughter here. She is 1. I love the children's section it is big with so many books. Love the play section. We tried coming to one of the toddler time reading programs and my daughter would not sit still. She's a toddler. The woman reading kept giving us dirty looks because my daughter was squirming and more interested than the book reading. I won't come back for this reason until reading time is over. Someone who is reading to children should know their attention span is very small and should not give dirty looks to the child or parent. read more

I'm a big fan of public libraries. What's better than free books? The Anaheim Public Library isn't the best library ever, but it's definitely one of the best libraries in the north OC area. Yes, the Central Library building is ugly. UGLY. But at least they're finally doing some remodeling on the inside. I'm holding judgement on that until the final product is public - though I've been told not to hold my breath for that day. However, while the building looks like something that was chewed up and spit out after a long night of drinking, it does have a decent selection of books. (Unlike the Buena Park Library, which I tell anyone who will listen not to touch with a 100 foot pole.) It also has a decent selection of cd's and dvd's. And if the Central Library doesn't have what you want, you can request it and have the item sent to the library branch that is closest to you. A little tip is that they SAY they'll charge you for requesting a book/putting it on hold. BUT if you go pick up the book yourself and you use the self-check out thingy, you get the book for free. Also, if your book is due and you aren't able to get it back in time, you can go online to renew and you don't get charged a late fee. I've actually done this a few times, where I renewed a day or two after the due date, and I ended up not getting charged. Shhh! Please don't tell them about the lost revenue because I'm quite enjoying my free books thank you very much. Last, anyone can get a library card in the Anaheim Public Library system. It's not just for residents. This puts the Anaheim Public Library at the top of my list for libraries in the area! read more

I had stopped coming to this library a few years ago. I came back this year & it has expanded so much and gotten up to date with technology. It has a great selection of books & even movies. Every book I have needed (non-college), I have found at this library. They have a good section for adult fiction & you can find a book very easily. The 2nd floor is much quieter. I like that movies are in different sections for kids only & the rest are in the visual room. Most movies are a $1 rental/week but there is a wide selection. The kids section is very well stocked and it has a good variety for kids to entertain themselves on the computers or activity desks. Love the fact that they are open until 8 pm M-F, Sat until 6 & only close on Sunday. For convenience purposes, I would like them to have a drive thru drop off for the books as it doesn't matter that its next to APD, it gets scary at night to get out of the car and walk up to the closed doors to drop off books. read more

I have not been to this library in ages but now that I am a teacher, this library is a frequent stop for me. It is convenient as it is only 5-10 minutes from home it is on the way home from work! I use to come to this place as a kid and now that they have totally revamped this place, it looks spacious and amazing. The kids section is like a playground! (but of course you don't see kids running in there like one...well sometimes). They have a great selection of books, although a lot of them are misplaced (i blame the kids ;) ) Lots of things to check out and they even have a little room for videos to select from. I love the room where you can also buy books at a very great price. They range from 25 cents all the way to about $2. I love the self check out system as well! So if you are embarrassed about borrowing something, self checkout is the way to go! LOL! read more
