I received the booking confirmation with instructions that a Saturday arrival needs to go to the courtesy desk at the local grocery store to get the key. We found the grocery store and went in. After several minutes of looking they did not find our envelope with the key or anything with our name on it. They said to just go out there and maybe someone was there. I looked through my emails and found another one that had shown up while we were driving with completely different instructions on how to get in. It said we were to go to the place and the key would be under a planter. We drove out a few miles and found it (difficult to find in the dark) and there were a whole bunch of people around a fire pit, several hammocks hanging in the trees and bicycles all over the place. We did not expect neighbors since that was not clear in the description. We found a small sign and a place to park on the side of the "cottage". We walked up and the key was in the door, not where it said it would be. We unloaded and as we were our neighbors (who were certainly having a good time) came over and said they were going to be there for a few days and join them if we wanted. It was a nice gesture, but not what we were expecting. Needless to say we did not get to use the hot tub, fire pit or enjoy the views as described as it was always too crowded. Later I found the info on the other half of our "private cottage" and says it sleeps 4. They had more than 4 people in there and we could hear them through the walls. The inside was ok. On the table were the rules. I am fine with rules but when they don't apply to the unit you are in it makes things confusing. They mentioned an upstairs (there isn't one), wash the dishes (there is no kitchen and the only sink is in the bathroom), that no firewood could be used, only the fake logs you buy at the store, but that the grill outside could use wood and be used as the fire pit. WHAT? None of this made sense. The bed was very uncomfortable and covered with some kind of plastic that was very loud each time you moved. The cable TV was basic, there was no wifi as described and the instructions on how to use the dvd player were wrong. The coffee maker was disgusting and partially broken. I had to clean it prior to using it and only used it once. We went into town for coffee after that. Kitchenette? Not even close. A microwave and a toaster do not make a kitchenette. There was dirt on the floors, cobwebs in most corners, hair in the drawers of the bathroom cabinets, etc etc. The only views we had were to the bushes, no sweeping views of the valley as described. It was just disappointing. We were told to do the dishes and clean everything before we left, well, we left it better than we found it for sure. We had to purchase paper towels and kleenex as no paper products were provided aside from the roll of toilet paper. This place has potential but really needs to be managed better and the descriptions are very misleading.

The bathroom has a HUGE bathtub and great walk-in shower. We bought a few groceries and used the refrigerator that is provided. There are dishes enough for 2 and they ask that you clean them before you leave. HOWEVER there is no dish soap, so make of that what you will. In all, a pleasant experience for a 3 night getaway suite. Only reason for 1 less star is because it's not the Taj Mahal.

Hacienda Del Rio is only about an hour from home, but it felt like a complete reset. Being right by the river was so peaceful, we spent time paddle boarding, hanging out by the pool, and just slowing down for a bit. I also loved that they're pet-friendly and so accommodating throughout our stay. The rooms were super clean and each one had its own unique style, which made it feel even more special. Definitely adding this to my list of places I'll keep coming back to.

I'm also a pool owner and when I saw their pool, I knew right away there was no way I would even put my big toe in it for a soak. Those portable pumps threw me off and the water was not clear.

I can tell they have tried their best to manage/clean. A/C works well, especially at night! Not much noise created. All the fire pits were upgraded and well-maintained. Some things to be careful with: 1/ Some weeds in the grass can be sticky and painful to pick off. Be careful walking in grass near the cabins (wear water shoes). 2/ Some dogs may be reactive to people/other dogs (barking). But everyone was very respectful. 3/ Didn't try the swimming pool; it looks a little muddy. 4/ Coffee station not working well. We noticed from others' reviews and brought our own coffee boiling pot with pour makers. They also didn't provide milk/coffee mate. 5/ Pillows are not quite comfortable.

We stayed there from Thursday April 23rd - Sunday April 26th 2026. It was like living in an Italian Villa and you would be hard pressed to find a more gracious host and chef than Justin anywhere ! He's been doing this for over twenty years ! We arrived at the Lakehouse around 3:00 pm and were immediately welcomed by Justin who carried our bags to our upstairs Medici Room and gave us a tour of the house. Justin also provided us with excellent tips on things to see and do in the area, as well as suggestions for restaurants for lunches and dinners. Thursday evening, we ate dinner on the outside patio of Gennaro's Trattoria where we enjoyed their Authentic Italian Kitchen. Friday morning, we enjoyed a delicious omelet breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room overlooking Canyon Lake and great conversation with other guests. Following breakfast, we took a leisurely drive down River Road to the quaint town of Gruene (that's pronounced "Green"). There, we had lunch at the Gruene River Grill, followed by a relaxing stroll through the many antique and boutique shops in Gruene, and a visit to Gruene Hall, Texas' Oldest Dance Hall. We then returned to Canyon Lake and enjoyed some merlot wine and cheese and crackers (which we had brought with us) on the Lakehouse's covered outdoor patio overlooking Canyon Lake. We had dinner at Canyon Lake's Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill which offers a full menu. On Saturday morning, we enjoyed a delicious Belgian waffle breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room. Following breakfast, we drove to the town of Blanco and visited Arnosky's Flower Farm. After walking around the beautiful flower fields, we bought some beverages and snacks inside Arnosky's barn and sat in the chairs on the barn's covered back porch patio overlooking the flower fields, humming bee feeders, and bird feeders. You could sit there a long time as the scene is ever changing. From Arnosky's, we drove to Tillman's Cabin Resort in Blanco and ate lunch at the Rio Blanco Café overlooking the Blanco river. After lunch, we drove to the original 1885 Blanco Court House in downtown Blanco where we took a leisurely self-guided tour of the courthouse. We also visited Blanco's many antique and boutique shops. Saturday evening, we attended the 4 pm mass at Canyon Lake's St. Thomas The Apostle Church. At the end of mass, we witnessed one of their congregants step up to the lectern with the pastor's approval, talk about what the bible says about a wife, ask the lady in the front row next to us to step forward, and then bent down on one knee and asked her to marry him in front of the entire church congregation, and she said "YES" and they kissed. What a beautiful proposal ! Following mass, we had dinner on the outside patio of Canyon Lake's Elio's Osteria e Pizzeria. On the evening drive back to the Lakehouse, we saw lots of white tail deer in the neighborhood. On Sunday morning, we enjoyed a delicious scone and quiche breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room. We again enjoyed conversing with the other guests as we had every day, and then we packed and headed home. Sorry for the length of this review but my wife and I thought readers might enjoy hearing about what one can do from The Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast at Canyon Lake. The Lakehouse is centrally located in the Texas Hill Country and opens this area up to you like a box of chocolates!

The private on-property pool was the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. I agree with all the previous visitors who raved about Justin's fantastic breakfasts! Day 1 included orange scones and a delicious zucchini fritatta and roasted potatoes - incredible. Day 2, by special request, included strawberries Romanov and eggs benedict with sausage. Very disappointing experience and poor customer service…read more I arrived for a massage and facial and there was no one from Blair House Inn on the property to greet me or assist me. I was essentially left to figure out where I needed to go on my own. When I was finished, I was trying to find someone to pay and take care of the billing, and that is when a man who happened to be there offered me his phone. He called the inn, and only then was I able to reach someone regarding the billing. Upon booking, I had specifically asked what my gift certificate included and was told a massage and facial. I did not ask for an upgrade at any point. Despite this, Blair House Inn charged my card anyway without my consent whdisputed the charge. What made this even worse was how they handled it afterward. They didn't answer my calls, and they "read" my text messages without responding, yet they have chosen to respond publicly to my reviews. My issue was never with the massage therapist or esthetician. It was with management and how this situation was handled. For a property at this price point, I expected basic hospitality, communication and transparency. I did not receive them and instead got charged for something I never even asked for.
