I thought the place was rather small with not many exhibits. A lot of things would take up entire rooms all by themselves. I usually like to browse around in museums but I walked through the whole thing in about 10 minutes. I even walked around a bit extra because I thought to myself, that can't be all, well it was. I'm really glad I did not pay for this. But maybe if you are a love of modern art like the other review for this place then maybe it is something you would like.

Overall I enjoyed learning the history and different periods of which women used handbags. It was so cool to see the historical purses to the modern purses. There were some very unique and handbags to check out on all floors. Wow, if I had more room in my suitcase I could've definitely purchased a bag or two in their gift shop that had some cool handbags for sale. I would recommend this place for those interested in purses. It wont take too much time out of your day.

A small museum, located on the "Gentleman's Graacht" in Amsterdam's canal district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This museum is fascinating, and the exhibits are incredibly well designed. It takes the history of purses and bags back to the 1600s, when men were all about the purse. Another plus is that it's in an old canal house, which is fascinating all on it's own as a place to explore. The collection is enormous, and extremely well curated and researched. I was completely absorbed, as was my boyfriend! I loved the exhibits that displayed famous women's purses, and the contents! Haven't you always wondered what the Queen of England and Princess Grace carry around in their purse? I know I have, and now I know! Learned a new Dutch word: MANNENTASSEN = man bag! Why should the ladies have all the fun, and why should men overstuff their pockets? The museum is a perfect size, as you can spend a couple hours here, before "museum fatigue" sets in, and still feel like you saw everything, and learned some things. The café attached is elegant and sunny. The service is a little slow, but who minds, as you get to hang out in a beautifully appointed canal house. The gift shop is the best part!!! Many purses for sale, from high end, to bags for people like me. Accessories, fun doo-dads and other relevant miscellania are on offer. So worth a visit. I loved it!

I purchased a combo ticket together with the Teylers Museum for €17.50 I don't think that this…read moremuseum is a must-see destination in and of itself, but it made a great addition to a day trip to Haarlem! Frans Hals wasn't initially on my radar, but I fell in love with some of his paintings during my visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. His lively brushwork and sense of humor definitely catch the eye! However, be warned that majority of this collection isn't actually Frans Hals: unlike the Van Gogh Museum, which is probably 80-90% Van Gogh, here there's one main room with about 12-15 of his major works, and the rest of the collection is from other Dutch contemporaries. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the museum is still entertaining. The galleries are beautiful, with a nice combination of sculpture, decorative arts, and paintings. And there are convenient lockers for storing your belongings while you browse! It's a cool experience to view some of Frans Hals' classic pieces in the town where he lived and worked. But since this is a smaller museum with a narrow focus, I wouldn't dedicate more than an hour or two to your visit.

To proud pronounce Muiserslot, you have to say it as "Mouse-sir-slow" btw. Yes, the Castle is cool if you do the self guided tour and ferry ride but I finished about a hour early and got lunch there. You'll learn about this 11th century castle and its history where most of it was built up in the 1500s, and the various tools used to keep invaders out. It has never been attacked hence its great condition. As for the cafe at the bottom floor, the sandwich was actually pretty good and about €6 when I went. We had a little too much extra time so we actually walked to the garden where Schoolchildren grew their vegetables and read through everything, we finished so early. The ferry ride was pretty comfortable with drinks so if you're into getting a pint this is the way to go. Overall the only downside is that the way to and from via ferry takes a long time, almost the whole day, which if you want a faster trip take the car. Overall, a soldi day trip from Amsterdam.

Highlights/Tips: + First and foremost, this is not located in Amsterdam, but outside it. If you are using the IAmsterdam card, your transportation will not be covered. You will have to either pay each individual bus/tram used, or purchase a regional card. Also, expect a bit of a walk, because if getting dropped off by bus, you will need to walk into the town to the castle itself. It is an easy ~15 minute walk to the castle from the bus. + With your ticket, a guided tour is included. It is important to note that the tour is only offered in Dutch; however, they offer information in English during the tour. You will also need to take the voucher provided when you receive your ticket to the kiosk to determine the time of your guided tour. + There are self guided tours where you can follow a suggested route, such as the Medieval Tower Route. There are plaques and additional information (offered in Dutch/English). + Seemed to be very kid friendly and offered a quest type passport where a route/activities are to be done and stamps are collected as you go. Information can be found at the ticket office. + Locker can be found by the cafe/gift shop/restrooms to store backpacks + Outside the castle , you can explore a small garden area, as well as falconer that offers a display of his birds of prey during select days/time ** On extremely hot days, the dungeon is the place to stop for a cool dark place to beat the heat.

The lady who helped us was quite accommodating and nice, and she made it more fun. Good thing I had my email with me from booking the appointment which I pre-paid for, because she didn't see it in her system for some reason. After the photos, we visited the museum (included in the I Amsterdam pass) and got to look at a number of fun costumes and hats, including some modern reinterpretations of old style Dutch hats. It's a petite museum, so it wouldn't take too long to go through, but if you enjoy fashion and clothing, this is worth a stop in to check it out. The photos are either 30 or 35 Euros and can accommodate large groups or families. I enjoyed getting to try on the wooden shoes, and learning that farmers would do field work in these shoes, because their feet stayed dry and warm. And they did seem to stay warm in those shoes, so learned something new there.

The…read moreconcept is great, they move around the city into vacant shop spaces that are waiting to be rented. They were previously located for 9 months at a spot on Van Baerlestraat. I popped in on Saturday, having decided I needed to get some more cultural activities under my belt. The gallery has paintings, photographs, and sculptures by various artists - mostly Dutch - and is a pretty large space. The art is mostly modern. A few of the artists were there also talking with people about their art. The space is very big and bright and light, so it shows the art well. Definitely a nice addition to the neighborhood. Also a great way to show local artworks in different parts of the city. Stop by and check it out!
