This is a very busy spot to visit, but it is a fun place. People are very friendly and welcoming. Most every place I visited I was greeted with smiles and great service. This despite the fact that many people don't tip. Workers appreciate tips, even though they are not expected, if you visit be sure to tip. The canals are quite clean despite the crowds. Although you find some garbage on the street at night it does get cleaned up by morning. If you like museums and if you're into art this is the place to go to. They sell an I-Amsterdam card which is worth buying. It gives you access to all public transportation as well as free access to numerous museums, a canal cruise, and bike rentals. It also gives you 25% off discounts to most other major museums as well as other attractions. The cafes are quite interesting though, they allow smoking of marijuana but not cigarettes. They sell it and allow you to sit and enjoy a great cup of coffee or tea, some are better than others so if you're into that look into the better ones. They are in all areas of the town. Finally there is the red light district which is quite a sight to observe. I won't say more, but definitely a must see. A great place to visit...
Spent 6 glorious days in Amsterdam and did all the activities we wanted to except one. There is still much more of this marvelous city and beyond in Netherlands to explore, and we are so grateful to have had this current adventure and to dream of more. We felt safe the whole time and found the people here to be so welcoming and friendly, quite helpful when we were confused or needed re-orientation, so cosmopolitan in the best ways. I understand why there are so many ex-pats relocated here! read more

Amsterdam is a beautiful city that was easily walkable, easy public transportation (trains and buses), and has so much variety in food, activities, and more. Loved the walkthrough through canals and bridges (although driving during traffic time a d all the one ways can be a lot). With a large group of girls, we felt generally safe walking at night. Only one instant of someone following us/knocking on the door and some racial slurs being all Asian, but that's not against the city itself. There's history, nightlife, nature, and great food options. A spot you could come back to more than once! read more

I love Amsterdam. It is so beautiful and the people are so warm. I did not spend nearly enough time here because this was a stop on a cruise I was on. The streets just feel so historic yet modern at the same time. I enjoyed looking at the wooden clogs and eating the delicious fries. I definitely recommend staying here three nights or so. It is an exciting city for.sure. It is also very clean which I like. I bought some beautiful wooden roses. They are very classy. There are also boat rides but we did not want to use the time on that since we had never been there. We explored the city instead and I cannot wait to go back. read more

We signed up for a shore trip to tour the Jewish quarter. The guide stopped to show us the difference between a coffee shop and a relax cafe. In the latter one you can purchase and smoke pakalolo. Since it was just a quick point out for info no one in our group got to enter either premise. For me it was like in Morocco or Budapest to try a hookah. There was an inclination to try, the spirit was willing but my Jimminy Cricket with a halo told my horn side, move along lil darlin'. We ended up by the Anne Frank House then were taken to a bar for their famous apple torte ala mode abd choice of coffee or tea included in our tour. We told the guide we would make it back to the ship on our own. Leaving her a tip as we said good bye. C'mon, how difficult could it be? Sidetracked by shopping, asking directions at the Palace we came across the REAL city. One block away, the strong scent of weed permeated the air, thick and strong. We were told head towards the train station to get back to the ship. Darkness fell, cold chill invaded the air and we were LOST. read more
