I hired TLC Movers in NS to help with an ON to a NB move. They contracted AMS without ever telling me they were doing so. At that point I didn't know who to go to for any problems. TLC deferred to AMS. AMS can only return emails and phone calls when payment is concerned. And there were many problems. Where do I start?
3 hrs late on pick up day with a midnight deadline , wrong size truck and had to return with another at 11pm, forcing movers to play tetris all day to try to fit the contents of a 4000 sq ft home into a small truck. One mover was clearly upset, cursing and raging the entire time. He frightened me. They then left a mattress behind. How do you miss a mattress?
They demanded payment in full before delivery, delivered over 30 days after pick up and about 2 weeks after full payment with zero communication that they would be late. I took time off work and had help waiting but no delivery. Because of this I had no appliances or bed during that time in lockdown.
Communication was non-existant except for regarding payment. They avoided phone calls and charged 4,000 more than my top estimate, but what can you do when everything is held hostage?
Everything was delivered but filthy and in bad condition. I had broken frames, scratched furniture, and rushed assembly. They tried to skip out without assembling anything although I was promised disassembly and reassembly. I was promised packing and unpacking, too, but that didn't happen. In hindsight no assembly would have been better. 3 pieces of furniture have broken because they didn't reassemble the legs properly (using one screw instead of 4 and pocketing the rest). I have two brokem bed frames, one antique, and a broken sectional. Total value is greater than 5,000. This doesn't even go into scratched and broken art.
Hardware they were responsible for went missing and was later found in random boxes. That is, the hardware they didn't pocket while pretending to use it for assembly.
The company driver confirmed the mover who swore like a sailor was known for these antics while the company denied it. As a single woman, having a menacing, raging man in my home on moving day was stress on top of the stress of an interprovincial move. There was completely zero accountability or customer care. TLC, whom I actually hired deferred to AMS. AMS were clearly not professionals in any sense. They did not want to return calls or address any issues. I would never hire them again and can't warn you strongly enough to avoid this company and TLC.
Lessons:
1) always write delivery on a scheduled date on your contract with clear penalty for late delivery
2) always stipulste no payment till delivery on contract
3) stipulate pick up day and time on contract with penalties amd size of vehicle and number of movers
4) review and stipulate communication and damage reimbusement policies in contract
5) clarify that the company you hire will be doing the move and not subcontracting
6) clarify contact person on contract
7) clarify allowable deviation from estimate in contract
8) take inventory before they arrive eith boxes numbrred and labelled according to room. I did this and thank God I did.
ALSO: have every single item disassembled and wrapped. This includes lamps, shades, art, sofas, shelves, drawers, etc. I did this for 75% of my items, which are the ones that were safe. But everything else was damaged. I spent a year refinishing pieces. I am so thankful I sold delicate items before moving! Do not trust this company to wrap or protect your items!
If anyone else hired TLC /AMS and had similar issues pls reach out to nonie.delong@gmail.com. I think a suit needs to be filed.
I hope this saves someone else the stress and loss I experienced! read more
