Incredible service. I sent them my old Crate G60 XL 1x12 solid-state combo amp that I decided to use to learn about amp mods or repair. I had a vision of the amp as being stripped down to only the high gain channel and nothing more (down to five knobs/buttons: Gain, Level, Shape, Brightness, and Power, i.e., "GLSBP"). In the process of removing the knobs, switches, and buttons I no longer wanted, and jumping the Channel Select button to always be on the high gain channel, I failed to realize that Crate wired the amp in such a way that no sound/power could be had without a foot switch or effects loop, or that there was such a thing as a JFET transistor. Rick at Amp Guys immediately recognized the issue. After the repair he took the time to explain to me exactly what was going on, so I could use the knowledge in the future. Further, he sent me a copy of the schematic with the issue(s) highlighted in yellow as well as a print copy of the original instruction/spec booklet. I just couldn't have asked for a better experience. And I swear the amp sounds better now after he fixed it :)
One last thing I should say. I never, ever got the feeling that he looked down on me or anything for doing what I did. I'm sure he's had his fair share of repairing other people's mistakes. I get it. But this guy was so cool about it. I'm telling you, if I lived in the area, I'd be there every day trying to absorb what I could from him. It's so hard to find trustworthy service people in any field, but this guy's got it. Seriously, five stars. read more
