"C'mon Brisbane! C'mon Brisbane! C'mon Brisbane!"…read more
The site of many a Queensland victory in Origin, International matches, The Wallabies, Socceroos etc, as well as the odd concert (Coldplay in 2012). In recent years Suncorp (Lang Park as its known by Qld'ers), has been hallowed ground for me when it comes to A-league football / "the worldgame". Memories like Brisbane Roar, winning the premiership and championship double with the latter in dramatic fashion; scoring 2 goals in the last 3 minutes against Central Coast Mariners during the 2010-2011 season. 55,000 + of the Orange Army, roaring and shaking Suncorp Stadium to its foundations, and then repeating the feat again in 2011 - 2012. Sure 2012-2013 was a struggle but we still made the finals!
Beneath all that though, Suncorp Stadium is a world class venue, with excellent facilities, accessible selection of "sport" food, such as pies, potato gems, chips, burgers, coffees, beers etc. The prices might be on the high-side, but I think of it as a contribution to the upkeep of such a great venue. It is conveniently located, with easy access to public transport; Roma Street station just a 5 - 10 minute walk, and on game days there are free buses that take you to the venue from Roma Street.
And when you're still in the mood to celebrate or drown your sorrows, of course Caxton Street is less than 5 minutes down the road, with its several bars and pubs.
Hooah!
