This hotel is the absolute epitome of the phrase "you get what you pay for"…read more I stayed at this hotel for a week, and only due to the extremely cheap price. I wish my stay was much shorter. So the actual room itself was fairly decent: just a basic run-of-the-mill hotel room like you'd see anywhere else - nothing fancy. However, I couldn't get any sleep on any of the nights there. The issue was not always the guests, but from the staff. My room was on the second floor whose hallway had a completely useless balcony/loft area that led directly to the lobby below. This meant I could hear every single conversation from the staff and the guests at all hours of the day. A customer would check in at night and strike up a loud conversation with the desk associates? I would hear it. It's 4 AM and the staff members are bantering and laughing extremely loud in the lobby? I would hear it and wake up. One night I couldn't sleep at all, because the downstairs staff were being so loud. Around 5 AM I finally called the front desk with a noise complaint. The woman on the phone initially asked where the noise was coming from, and when I said it was coming from her and her coworker, she got very defensive and tried to deny talking so loud. Keep in mind that during my phone call with her, the noise suddenly stopped - and then immediately started back up again when the call was over. Sometimes the staff or guests would wander around the hallways having loud conversations at all hours of the day. And speaking of loud noises: the heater was also extremely loud and sounded like a car's engine running whenever the heat was on. And despite the no smoking signs on the front of the building, there were always people smoking out front. In fact, as I was loading up my car on the morning of my check-out day, the front entrance was blocked by two paint contractors standing there smoking cigarettes and blowing smoke at the guests with no regard for their well-being nor the obvious sign which said, "No Smoking in Front of the Building". Avoid this place at all costs - unless you enjoy loud people and the smell of cigarette smoke. The reason why the price is so cheap is because the place is impossible to be comfortable.

The staff is always friendly, be it the desk clerk or the cleaning staff. They will often go above and beyond to accommodate you however they can. I highly recommend this place. I do note that they no longer let locals reserve rooms. I remember some crazy things happening in this hotel in the past, but generally that's not the case anymore.

We were all in the lobby and it was only 9:30pm (30 minutes before we had to go to our rooms) and he just screams. He asks for everyone's attention, but then rudely asks everyone to be quiet because he's getting too many complaints. He then goes on to say, "The next call I'll make is to the cops!" Everyone is confused because we still had time before we had to go to our rooms. A dad in the lobby said, "Yeah, for you," which David responds with, "You wanna try me, motherf**er?" EXTREMELY unprofessional. There were also YOUNG CHILDREN in the lobby that had to hear his awful language. He then hid in the back room behind the front desk while everyone just sat in shock. We weren't making that much noise, in fact people came out of their rooms because HE was screaming. The cops showed up, and that's the only other time we saw him. He told the cops that we were making too much of a disruption, so the cops told us to go to our rooms. Guests started getting kicked out of their rooms (it was 10pm at this point) with nowhere to go since no hotels would take a reservation that late. I saw another review from 9 ish months ago complaining about how rude this David was. I'm just appalled that he hasn't been held accountable for his actions because threatening your guests and kicking them out of their rooms after they've agreed to do so, is just unacceptable.

As others have said, this seems to be one of those cases where someone is making quite a bit of money and deciding to neglect upgrades. The hotel was "fully booked" both nights we stayed, even though it didn't seem like anyone was ever there. The lack of upgrades is most apparent by the room key systems. They very much appear antiquated and only work when they want. We usually had to try 3 or 4 times before our card worked properly. The rooms are TINY! With 2 kids and 2 adults we felt cramped. Most hotel rooms we have at least a little space to spread out, but not here. The bathroom had a pocket door, something I've never seen in a hotel. It did help to save some space not having a swinging door (one wouldn't fit inside the bathroom, also SUPER small), so it would have taken away from the limited space inside the room. Sadly it didn't offer much privacy as the lock didn't work well. My biggest complaint deals with the security of this place. After cleaning rooms the staff leave the rooms open by moving the latch between the door and the frame. This means anyone can walk into a room between the time it is cleaned and when someone checks in. Either they use a room that isn't theirs or worst case scenario, hide in it and wait until someone closes the door. Do I think that is likely? No, but it's not a good feeling seeing your hotel room door open when you first check in. I made my family wait in the hallway to make sure it was safe to enter. For a hotel that doesn't write down your room number on a small slip of paper for "security reasons", I found it odd they have no problem leaving your door open which seems much more dangerous. Other smaller things that should be addressed: staff smoking, exercise room, "business center", meeting room, and random people hanging out in the halls. Staff smoking- They walked out the front door and lit a cigarette. Some of the smoke came back inside the building. Guests checking in would have a first impression of cigarette smoke. Yuck! Not a good first impression for the hotel or guests. Exercise room- Needs some dumbbells or something. A treadmill, bike, and stair stepper, all pretty outdated (treadmill seemed newest). The "business center" was a joke. One computer in a hallway with a printer. No privacy whatsoever. I guess at least they tried? There was one meeting room I saw. Several chairs arranged to face the front which might have had a TV. I didn't look for very long. Maybe if you desperately needed a larger space this would be adequate, but seemed like more of an afterthought than a usable meeting space. There were two guys in their late teens or mid twenties sitting at the business center eating breakfast. They were there for hours chatting away. They didn't bother anybody, but it seemed odd the amount of time they spent in that tiny area talking. I only noticed because my kids were active wanting to do things in the morning- swim, exercise, walk around, etc. Each time we passed by and they were still there. It almost seemed like they came in for breakfast and didn't have rooms at the hotel. I think we first saw them around 8 30 and they were still there when we checked out around 11.

The front desk gave me a bit of a hassle because I had accidentally booked a smoking room and I asked for a non-smoking room. But it was all fixed after a little bit of going back and forth. Otherwise, the room was comfy and clean. There was only a shower in my room, no bathtub. Which I didn't mind. They have hot coffee, hot water, and iced cold water in the front lobby 24/7. In the afternoon, I went for a swim in their indoor heated pool. The pool area is very well taken care of. Fast internet, enough for me to watch movies on my laptop and browse the web. No express checkout, so when you leave, you do have to go to the front to turn in your key and request a receipt.

When I arrived at the motel, the desk person said that they had no King rooms available, but he could give me another double room with two double beds next to the first one. I had no choice but to take it as I was 5 hours away from home and was attending a weekend event. We got our belongings into the room and attended the first night of our event. Upon returning, one of the rooms had no hot water for the shower, so they had to be skipped for the night. When we got up in the morning, we had trouble with one of the toilets flushing properly, so the front desk was contacted. The person at the desk didn't bother to go and check in out, he handed me a plunger instead. I wasn't away with the booking of the rooms, that I signed on to be the hotel plumber. The toilet got cleared, but every time it was used the plunger was needed. When we left for our event on the second day, we thought the room trash would at least be taken out, but it wasn't. It is not a place that I would ever recommend staying. The only positive that I found from my stay was that when we first got there, the room was very clean, but that would be the only positive.

I've done this trip many…read moretimes and stayed at a variety of hotels and AirBnbs, and to my surprise, this Holiday Inn Express is my favorite. Check in was a breeze, and the hotel receptionist was very friendly, which I appreciated after a long day of travel. The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. They come with a mini-fridge, plenty of drawer and closet space, outlets by the bed to charge your phone, and chromecast on the television, which makes streaming a breeze. These are all major pluses for me for such a long trip. I also found the bed to be quite comfortable. This hotel also has a gym and an indoor pool. I didn't end up using these during my stay, but I may try take advantage of them when I return. The stay also includes a hot breakfast, which was great. Every morning there was some variety of egg, breakfast meat (sausage or bacon), and potato (or biscuits) available. A heat lamp keeps the cinnamon rolls on offer warm and gooey. An automatic pancake machine serves mini pancakes cooked by the press of a button. But the machine jams a lot and the pancakes are tiny. One of the breakfast attendants had to show us the trick to make it work. There were also a variety of other pastries, yogurts, and cereals. In addition to a juice machine, there are carafes with regular coffee, decaf, and hot water available in the lobby 24-7, though they are refreshed less frequently as the day progresses. I had some lukewarm decaf a few times later in the day. One little hiccup during my stay was that there was a power outage. The power went on and off a few times and the elevator couldn't be used for some period of time. This occurred when a lot of folks were on their way to or having breakfast, so the timing was not great. I ended up having to make a few trips up and down the stairs, but it wasn't a big deal, and I felt lucky not to have gotten stuck in the elevator. But there wasn't any real communication about it, and we never did learn the cause. One thing I did note is that when you enter the hotel, there is a sign on the door that makes it clear that local residents are not welcome to stay, only tourists. I haven't been a resident for two decades, but I grew up in this area, and the constant reminder that locals are not welcome was off-putting. I have to wonder if there is a more tactful way for the hotel to handle this issue. Another thing to know is that a lot of folks who stay here are headed to the Soooky Nook sports complex nearby, so there are often large groups in the lobby and large vehicles in the parking lot. All of that being said, I enjoyed my stay here and would absolutely stay here again when visiting this area.
