Located on Tashereau close to 3 Amigos, this restaurant doesn't stand out from the outside, but since I got a flyer in the mail, I noticed the name change, I think "Coin du Charbon" is a clever way to attract customers. If you are looking for grilled meats, there is a good selection here. I opted for a filet mignon platter, which was essentially filet mignon skewers served with pita, your choice of potatoes/rice and salad. The meat was tender, juicy and everything was well seasoned. At around $16 or $17 a plate, the pricing and portion was generous. I have no complaints about the food, I enjoyed my meal- however when we entered the restaurant to order, we got zero reception and the overall atmospwhere seemed uninviting. They have 4 large TV screens for the menu, but 2 of the screens were not functioning. No one greeted us or offered additional information about the menu, yet we were the only customers and there seemed to be no rush. No smiles, no effort to be friendly... (even with a mask on, you can tell if someone is trying to smile usually but this wasn't the case). Customer service should be improved, as for that point alone I wouldn't really want to go back.

The chicken shawarma was as yummy as I remembered it, but the falafel sandwich was ice-cold and starting to go soggy (even though the pita had been grilled). I would guess the sandwich had been made way in advance of the Saturday dinner rush. I also tried the kefta plate with an extra beef skewer. All the beef was tasty, but way way overcooked. The beef skewer cubes were very tough and leathery, very difficult to cut even with a stainless steel knife much less a plastic knife. The kefta were dry and mealy - no juice at all. And the sides with this kefta plate were quite skimpy, especially when compared to the chicken shawarma plate right next to it - hardly any potatoes and barely any salad items besides cole slaw. And they forgot the pita bread on both plates and the napkins I had asked for. And the sauces were mostly mayo, quite stingy with the hummus. So unlike the take-out experience, which was fantastic! Moral of the story: Choose eat-in or take-out, so you can see them load up the plates and you can customize your fixings. The place is clean and bright, but the parking lot is cramped in front - park on the side instead. The staff is friendly and fast. But delivery may suffer because of their popularity and the captive audience - the orders are either made way in advance or sit in the driver's car for too long, and the portions are much smaller.
