Of the any happening things that a londoner can do, coming to visit this exhibition must be on the list.
Four artists have combined their creativity and insight of the world around us, they have transformed everyday images, iconography of the street, the media, the scattered world into their own. I see it as their gold, as an alchemist would, transmute base metals into a precious one. Their work becomes the elixir of life, if you will. Incidentally the exhibition's name; ALCHEMY.
Peter Kennard, Solo One, Static and DiRQuo. A simple set up with a very interactive layout, and colour makes the space work wonders with the pieces. My favourite, a piece were a 'Twister' mat (in colour) is the floor of a group of civilians is being attacked by the police (in black and white) during a protest. The connotations are endless, just to say that I find the work incredibly moving and clever, the juxtaposition between the game and violence is stunning. Political stances are made throughout with a touch of black humour and truth. read more
