The menu has a description in English so ordering was not difficult. The food is reasonably priced, portioned and delicious. I had the gnocchi with sausage. Soft gnocchi and creamy sauce matched well with the texture of the sausage. I had a glass of the house white, also inexpensive. I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. A note to other tourists if not already aware: there is a bread/ service charge which is standard. The one here was two euros.

We ended up wandering for a while since we had no idea where to go and what to eat and stumbled upon Osteria della Piazza in a little plaza. We didn't make it to the restaurant until late at night and since Ancona is not a well traveled city by tourists, we were really the only non-locals there. Our meals were exactly what we needed and absolutely delicious. They had a great menu and an extremely helpful staff. Since we knew nothing about the city we were able to direct us to a favorite local gelateria out in a square for dessert after our dinner.

We were not disappointed in either! The stock fish may not be for everyone as it is a pretty hearty dish, but it was great to sample and compare with the brodetto that offered a great variety of local fish and shellfish. In fact, my partner declared the brodetto here so good, it was his favorite meal of our entire 2+ week trip. We also had a beautiful and delicious seafood antipasti of paper-thin raw fish served with fresh fruit and vegetables. Everything was as lovely to look at as it was good to eat. Service was very friendly and accommodating. The weather that day was on and off raining, and while we were dining outside they kept trying to adjust the umbrellas and our tables to keep us dry. Eventually they ushered us inside when the rain got too heavy, and we lingered over espresso and grappa until the storms cleared and we could continue our journey. I would definitely recommend this place to other visitors looking to sample some of the unique dishes of this region of Italy.
