We had a horrific experience this last week with my 5 year old daughter at the Cancun location. She went in with breathing problems and had to take an ambulance there at midnight. The hotel (which I would say probably gets a kickback from the hospital) insisted on taking us to the private hospital. The place was so dirty. They refused to take our American insurance. And every time they entered the room had increased the cost of our visit. They had gotten up to $12,000 in estimates before doing a single thing to help her. The hospital administration threatened my husband and used all kinds of scare tactics to try and force my daughter into treatment. He ended up leaving. Fortunately, the ambulance had given her breathing treatments on the way there, and she was able to make it stateside. We feel beyond taken advantage of during a very scary time. As a frequent visitor of Mexico I'm disgusted that all the horror stories of their medical treatment of tourist is true. read more

My daughter had to have gallbladder surgery 80000 dollars later. And now 5 months back in States has to have another surgery because doctor ripped my daughters tube out causing a hernia that needs to be corrected and stitches have not dissolve causing infection and complications. We were taken to this hospital by ambulance from Moon Palace for injuries sustained from a fall at the pool. Should NOT be life threatening. However, the Dr.s and staff there did not treat my husband well. When he started to vomit from swelling blood the dr. Walked over to him and picked up a trash can and set it on his bed. He told him to just relax. The bleeding never stopped and got worse after they inserted some type of packing. We were there for 8 hours and they did nothing. I checked him out against dr's (the same dr. Who did nothing) advice, he never even looked in his nose to see where he was bleeding from. We went to a different one the next morning. They did not have anyone there who could translate or even try to work with our insurance. We understand we are in a foreign country, but I don't recommend anyone going to this hospital. We paid $2,000 cash for them to watch him and make him bleed more than when we got there. Unacceptable in any country. read more

Long overdue review but we were sent here by moon palace resort after my two year old fell at the kiddie pool and needed stitches. I did not see her fall because she was with my parents and I was sitting in one of the chairs near the kiddie pool when it happened. All I heard was my daughter crying so when I went to go see there was blood all over her and there was a big gash under her chin. I started freaking out ran to a lifeguard who sent us to see a nurse that works on the property and she told us my daughter would need stitches. It was all very chaotic so before leaving the resort I didn't even get a chance to ask my parents how she fell or anything. My husband and I just rushed for medical attention. So anyway, when hospital staff asked what happened I told them she fell but I didn't know how it happened. Later I could hear the hospital staff talking crap about "how could I not know how it happened". The dr who saw us also came off as arrogant. When he said she'd need stitches I asked about using the skin glue instead and he said the gash was too long. I asked if he was sure because it was probably only about an inch long and I had my C-section closed with glue and obviously a C-section cut is much longer than the cut she had under her chin and my C-section scar has healed incredibly. He said he was sure and he knew what he was doing. So then I asked how he'd put the stitches because I knew she would fight and scream. He said he'd been doing this a long time and again he knows what he's doing. Of course when time came to put the stitches (I was holding her arms, a nurse was holding her head and another girl who seemed to be a student dr. was holding my daughters legs) Mr. I know what I'm doing was really struggling because even with three adults holding her down we could not keep my 2 year old still. 6 months later and the scar has healed really well but I still think about the rude and unprofessional staff who made me feel like a shitty mom on one of the worst days of my life. read more

cI cannot begin to tell you how PHENOMENAL the team was at Hospital Amerimed Cancún. During a recent vacation from California to Cancun, I fell unconscious at my resort and was "rescued" by my parents who were incredibly wise in taking me to what they heard was one of the best hospitals in Cancun - Amerimed. I am 100000% sure this is far superior to any healthcare I have ever received in the States with top-notch Doctors and Nurses. Even when the nurses had very little English to hold a conversation or understand me, they went above-and-beyond to use Google Translate with me and care for me endlessly with such kindness and compassion. We felt like we were in such good hands (aside from a few culture differences/barriers), but I just cannot speak highly enough about my experience at Amerimed Cancun - even despite the circumstances. The people were amazing and the food was honestly better than the Hilton hotel we stayed at afterwards and several restaurants. So fresh, local, and (for the most part), exactly what I requested due to my picky eating. Dr. Dra. Andrea Vilchis Psiquiatra was and is one of the greatest people I have ever met/worked with her and I think I cried saying goodbye - however, I was delighted to be able to keep in contact with her. She made a serious difference in my progress and health. I also wanted to give a special thanks to my favorite nurses in the Psychiatric ward: Angie, Karen, Nefari, Andrea from Physical Therapy, Louis, Rueben, and Stephanie. I am very blessed to have met them all and the great experience I had, granted the circumstances and fact that it was my first time ever being hospitalized. The actual Care was fine, but their financial policies are sketchy and makes you feel like you're being held hostage . They kept requiring $4000 deposits up front, until I paid a total of $34,000 using fear of my son dying as a tactic to get me to pay. Refused to accept our health insurance and wouldn't accept our travel insurance. They also kept separating my husband and I into different rooms and demanding payments separately. Then anytime I wanted explanation for something they "suddenly couldn't speak English" and had no interpreter available. Another reason they kept separating my husband and I, was because he could speak enough to understand most things. This hospital should be ashamed of how they treat people in a vulnerable and emergency situation. Really dirty and deceitful in how they presented everything with the billing process. Trying to get itemized bills was like pulling teeth and I'm not sure I even believe what we were billed for was truly the cost. read more

This is the most horrible excuse for a "hospital" that I've ever seen! We were advised to go there from the resort medic at Grand Velas resort because my wife had a pain in her abdomen that they thought could be appendicitis. When we arrive we are put in the only room this place seems to have, which is a normal size hospital room with four beds and a staff desk and computer. Before the will even look at my wife who could have appendicitis they ask for my passport and credit card and come with a $6,000 auth charged to my card. I wrote "don't agree" and told them to remove the charge and they were not authorized to charge it in the first place. They never did and claimed that it wouldn't get charged because they would bill my wife's insurance the next day, which was a Monday. Meanwhile we wait for a couple hours for the "doctor" to arrive who comes walking in with a Gucci purse, belt buckle, and high heel wedges! I guess we were waiting for her to get dressed. After waiting another hour, we told them we had enough and we were leaving. Then the "doctor" came in and said that we must do the appendicitis surgery or my wife may die and it would be another $18,000. We refused and signed a form refusing service. The next day while in the airport to depart I check my credit card and they charged it $3,700!! FOR NOTHING!! This place is nothing but liars and thieves and is seemingly giving kickbacks to resorts to funnel people through! I have been fighting the charge with US Bank but it looks like I'm going to have to file a lawsuit to get my money back! There is a little skinny guy with glasses that works check in and he is the biggest lying piece of trash of them all. If I find his name I will include it as well. When we got back to the states and went to the hospital, it wasn't even appendicitis! This is just a scammy little place to rip off Americans, my concierge told me they'd never try and charge a Mexican that kind of money. read more

What a hot mess this place was. I had an unbelievably terrible experience there. They overcharged me 13K and would not even tell me why or what services i received outside of the quoted fees. The billing and administration people are liars and held me hostage for the money they wanted from me outside of what i was quoted. I am posting everywhere to anyone who will listen. My hand is still killing me from the IV they pulled out over a week ago. If i could save just one person from going to the nightmare of a hospital, then this post was worth it. They would not provide me with receipts for what I was overcharged. My insurance company and I are fighting all of the over charges and to date they are not responding. Most disgusting is after my emergency surgery, they STOPPED CARE because I was disputing charges, I could have been laying there DEAD and no one checked on me for over 10 hours. NO MEDS or antibiotics after surgery until i paid them. DON'T GO HERE! SAVE YOUR LIFE. read more

Amazing hospital in Cancun. We were a little apprehensive at first going to a Mexican hospital. Great care and attention was give to my 5 year old who cut his eye brow open in our hotel room. The ER doctor took a look and went through all the usual stuff to check for a head injury first. Then he called a plastic surgeon to stitch my son up! Good care, but be prepared to pay This hospital was recommended to us by the Club Med doctor, who also works there. For us, it was a good choice. My friend had extreme pain from a kidney stone and we were taken right in as soon as we arrived. A specialist met with us, and after an exam, a sonogram and a cat scan, the urologist did a procedure to remove it. We did not feel forced to have the procedure done, they could have given her pain medicine and hope to pass it, but she chose to have the procedure. Instant relief. The hospital is very clean, equipment is modern and works well, and most of those working there speak English well enough. We saw an ER doctor, a cardiologist and urologist -- all three very helpful and professional. Yes, you do have to pay to get treatment. It is a private hospital. It was $2,000 to just be seen, and then more depending on what you have done. But they give you the cost up front and you can decide what to do. Buy travel insurance! Then you can get reimbursed for what you have to pay -- and it is less than it would be in the US! We were fortunate to have a high credit limit on a credit card and had told the bank we would be traveling. We were nervous about going to a hospital in Mexico. This one worked out well. read more

My husband had to be taken here because he was bleeding internally. We were very happy with the care. BUT I had to pay a $5,000.00 deposit, which I was assured was a deposit. His care came to $3,812.37, they have billed me the entire $5,000.00 and have refused to refund the difference. read more

I wish I could give this hospital zero stars. This place is DISGUSTING. They will not even look at you until you pay for your visit in full (but how do they even know what treatment you need without the proper testing?). My sister was in excruciating pain and they refused to help her until she was able to pay her (astronomical) bill in full. The man next to her had a stroke and could not speak. His wife was on her hands and knees BEGGING for someone to help them and they would not do a thing until she paid them $40,000 (American dollars). I don't know anyone who has that kind of money readily available when traveling to another country (or ever for that matter)!! They took the man to another hospital and I hope he was able to receive the care he needed. The "doctors" and everyone else who works here should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. read more
