My dad trains here with my daughters and me. There are classes for kids after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:45-6:00 and Saturdays at 11:00. There are also classes for adults MWFSS at 11:00 AM and evenings M-F at 6:15. They train in and study authentic Japanese Shotokan karate. Some classes are for advanced students. They also sell uniforms, belts, gloves. The wooden floor, tin ceiling, mirrors, ceiling fans and knotty pine paneled walls make for a real old school dojo feel. The roar of your classmates KIA! will give you the energy to finish the class. Better than yoga IMO.

Now, my four and six year olds and I all train here and it's become a big part of our lives. Senseis Alaa and Kristin have built a warm and encouraging community of students over a wide range of age, skill, and background. They're knowledgeable and passionate about their sport and they put so much care and attention into their instruction. The dojo is clean and well laid out and there's a well-equipped strength studio upstairs that I can use when my kids are in class. Watching my little kids progress both athletically and socially in class has been so rewarding. And I'm making some progress in my own training, too, which is extremely gratifying for this old mom! Having a world class judo coach in our sleepy little neighborhood is such a privilege. I'd encourage anyone curious to stop in and check it out!

The school's lineage traces back directly Master Ip Man. I found it interesting that this snake crane style was originated by a Chinese woman a few hundred years ago. The system teaches principles of simultaneous defense and attack. Focusing hands and feet on the centerline of body. The style uses body physics and efficiency of energy to over come a much larger.... stronger opponent. I was impressed by the physical conditioning exercises, application drills and the over all interaction in the room. It was a much better martial arts experience than I have had in the past. This is something you can practice as a child or even in your old age. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself.
