If you get the munchies after a long night out, no worries, there is a food stand conveniently situated there to satisfy your cravings. But I am giving 4 stars for its rock music venue (Halle). I like the size of the venue, not too big but wide enough to move around the crowd. The acoustics of the place was decent when I went (it was an indie rock concert). Prices for beers are average-priced, but they sell the local Munich craft beer (Crew Republic), which gets bonus points from me. Whether it's a concert or a dance party, it's worth the trek to go to Backstage. (Ok, it's not too much of a trek as it's still within Munich city perimeters...but I'm lazy to travel more than 20 minutes to go out.)

The venue is not too big, just how I like it. However, if it's a sold-out (or close to) show, then it can be choatic. We saw a rock band played there, and people were pushing each other, spilling beers, shouting. For me, I was engulfed within a circle of tall people that I had no chance of even seeing the band. Next time I go, a bit of better planning (go earlier) + better luck = better experience.

Imagine...you find a good spot within a packed crowd to stand to see the performers, squeeze your long way through the little crevices among people to get to the bar, wait long to get your drink, and then squeeze your way back AND manage to not spill your drink on someone. It is some test of wills. It might have been an isolated experience for me, but the crowd was slightly aggravating (probably because of the restricted space). I heard people arguing with one another, and some man pushed my arm away when I was trying to take a photo. If you are to catch a specific band and want a less frustrating experience, then go early. For a short person like me, there are areas to stand by the sides of the venue where one can stand higher.

This particular event was standing only and despite the concert being sold out it did not feel cramped. There was a great big bar at the back of the hall and getting drinks was quick and easy. The prices for the drinks were also reasonable and the choices were ok. The acoustics in the venue were quite ok however the sound system in use on the night was a bit raspy and sounded not as clean as I would have expected. Not sure it was the venue or the choice of sound equipment that evening. Happily come back here anyday for a gig or two. Getting here is easy on the train.

Even though I was close to the speakers, the sounds were not overbearingly loud, and the floors did not shake with the bass. Drinks are fairly priced for a music venue. I was there for a rock concert, and to my surprise, people were moshing and crowdsurfing. Security was quite good in catching the crowdsurfers, and no one got hurt during the moshing. Overall, it was a decent experience.

Stumbled into this jazz club at 1 in the morning after a whole day at Octoberfest and scootering around Marienplatz with my best friend... Only ordered water (lol) but the atmosphere while the jazz player (a fellow American!) played was so mesmerizing ... every party there (it was packed as it is a small little bar) sat in silence as they just listened and watched the jazz players do their thing! Vinyl collection on another wall. A small piano in the middle. A random swan chair and a gigannnntic book at the front. You can seat yourself and the waiter will bring the menu to you. No ordering directly from the bar. There are lots of drinks to choose from. We tried about twelve drinks and they were all delicious, though some were made a little strong. They are reasonably priced, with most of the drinks being about €7. I would 100% recommend checking it out if you're in Munich.
