My brother passed away in 2021, He had 2 policies with this company. One for 30k and an accidental one for 250k. he was involved in an accident in witch he had to be hospitalized. During his hospitalization he contracted covid while in the hospital. Then he passed away. This company refuses to pay on the 2 policies. Instead there offer was to pay back the premiums that my brother paid in over the years. I am In the process of working with the State Insurance Commissioner to collect the full amounts due plus interest from the date of death. Been told by many insurance people that this company is the worst to deal with. They don't even deserve the 1 star I had to put up in order to post the review. read more

The customer service I received and the policies that govern this company are absolutely not client-friendly. As an established client, I contacted Americo to request a simple reduction in my life insurance coverage. I was told it would take a minimum of 20 business days, nearly a full calendar month, just to receive a response. That is an absurd amount of time for such a straightforward request. I was told requests are handled on a first come, first served basis. Does Americo only have one or two people capable of processing something this basic? I have no doubt that if I were calling to start a new policy, I'd have an answer within days. I asked to escalate the matter to a supervisor or retention department and was told it wouldn't matter because 20 business days hadn't passed. When I said I would cancel my policy, the representative showed zero concern. She simply read the cancellation policy, asked if I agreed, and processed it, no attempt to retain a long-time client, no questions, no accountability. Bottom line: nearly 30 days for a simple policy adjustment is unacceptable, and Americo clearly has no issue losing existing clients. That alone says a lot about how this company operates read more

I opened an annuity account with Americo in October of 2018 with my life savings of $11,000. As of November 9th, 2024, my account is worth $10,862.57. This is easily one of the worst companies I have done business with and I would recommend no one purchase an annuity from Americo. Probably a bad decision to purchase an annuity from any company, given all the commissions paid directly or indirectly, but Americo's terrible. As I've read in other reviews, customer service is terrible. Financial statements don't give full information. Interest rates on fixed annuities are misleading as, given the way the fixed interest is calculated, it's almost impossible to get the full interest rate promised. And then to cap it off, trying to withdraw funds is painfully slow - I was just told - after a few days of back and forth over forms - that it would take up to 20 business days - almost a full calendar month!? I called to see if they received all the information they needed to get our money back and they refused to answer the question. I called several times to try to talk to someone, the first time I was caller number 115! The last time I called they said it would take 15 days and the customer service rep was totally unhelpful. She just basically said i was wrong and that it was always 15 days. After 3 1/2 years of payments I researched the company and found many negative reviews -- most positive reviews appeared to be from new customers. I tried for three weeks to speak with a live representative to discuss my concerns. I received only automated responses and emails directing me to surrender the policy, which would cost me over $10,000. No one ever took the time to explain or address the poor reviews or my questions. The lack of transparency and human support destroyed my trust -- I would rather accept the large loss than continue paying them for another decade. They do not adequately listen to the customer and provide service that they need. Kelsey, who responded to my request was friendly and put me at ease so I purchased a mortgage protection policy. I requested that withdrawals not start until July, but the company immediately withdrew the monthly amount. I shrugged it off. After 3 months, I never received a policy or follow-up about the details of the policy. I was unable to reach anyone at SFG or Americo. So I called my bank and told them what happened....I had basically been "scammed". I completed some documents and the withdrawals are being cancelled and refunded. Lesson learned! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Here's why. I put 2 clients in the Growth Commander annuity and placed them in the S&P IQ Index. Regardless of the explanation how this index is managed, ANYONE would Assume it is based upon the S&P Index (It's in the title), right? WRONG? In one contract the client should have been credited with approximately 12% since that is what the S&P went up over the first year. THEY CREDIT HER WITH .05%. Another client should have received about 16%, THEY WERE CREDITED WITH LESS THAN ONE. When I approached Americo about this I just got disclaimers about how it was not the "original" S&P so the returns don't compare. WHY HAVE THE S&P name in it if it doesn't REMOTELY reflect the S&P. THAT'S OUTRIGHT DECEIT!! Additionally, every company has 30 days to reallocate at the anniversary, BUT NOT AMERICO. They only give 14 days so now I can't even reallocate away from this disaster. I'm so disappointed with this company! When I signed up with his company, I was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours with the agent. I stated that I wanted to get a Roth IRA account. Come to find out the agent, signed me up for life insurance, and annuity. Where most of the money is going to the life insurance. Which I am not interested in getting additional life insurance. Here are a few examples, if you would like a copy of your policy emailed to you (it is not available on the online portal as they advertise), they want to charge you $50 for it. Trying to reach someone on the phone is next to impossible. At the present time I am trying to cancel my policy, which again is proving to be next to impossible as well, they have automatically withdrawn the payment even after all the forms have been submitted weeks ago for the cancellation. On November 16 I requested the surrender of an annuity that had matured. It is now mid January and funds are still not received.
