Yelp has some negative reviews from customers about slow/no payments and customer service issue

They are disingenuous and will customize their deceit to fit their narrative. After giving information that I was led to believe was standard questions regarding eligibility on July 2, I was issued a policy that was to go into effect July 21. Later in the day on the 2nd, I told them, after further consideration, I no longer wanted coverage, and no payment was made. On August 21, an ACH withdrawal was made from my account. After reaching out to them I was told "they usually" record...., which suddenly changed to "do record" such correspondence, but since they were unable to find such, it never happened. In my experience, they lack the professionalism and integrity I would expect from anyone I give my money to and would need to trust to take care of my family after my death. I would advise anyone looking for insurance to find another provided and not trust that Americo has any interest in you other than collecting premiums. read more

Horrible experience cancelled in 12 hours from enrolling still charged me a week later told me 20 days for a refund

The absolute Worst company to deal with. They have a great "Bait & switch" process when you call them. On hold forever, get a department, transfer, on hold, speak to someone, transfer. They have missed annuity payments, been dishonest about their process and their canned response of "Couldn't read your e-mail attachment". We are currently on hold with them, after 90 minutes we have been transferred 4 times, asked to speak to a supervisor and put on hold and back in the beginning queue. Do NOT expect customer service, they are either the worst trained employees or the most unintelligent group. Take your pick, dishonest or unqualified. FYI, you don't have to get your bot on here and tell me how sorry you are or promise with a follow-up. I'd hate to be lied to again on another medium. read more

TERRIBLE CO. DO NOT USE! They used an agent that sold a policy under false pretenses to me. She told nothing but lies which I have shown to the company, they will not return any premiums. Turns out that the agent is now no longer active with them and changed her number, go figure. I'm thinking this is very wide spread and will be talking to an attorney about filing not just a lawsuit, but possibly a case action lawsuit. Companies can not allow any underwriters to sell anything under false pretenses. That is why I believe they have so many complaints at the moment. Wanted to transfer 5% of my Americo annuity to my brokerage firm. BUT Americo wanted additional paperwork - using THEIR system - instead of my brokerage transfer request. Never had this issue with other companies. I told my broker to cancel the request. My wife and I have 3 Americo MYGAs, but we Will NEVER buy another MYGA with Americo. read more

My brother passed away in 2021, He had 2 policies with this company. One for 30k and an accidental one for 250k. he was involved in an accident in witch he had to be hospitalized. During his hospitalization he contracted covid while in the hospital. Then he passed away. This company refuses to pay on the 2 policies. Instead there offer was to pay back the premiums that my brother paid in over the years. I am In the process of working with the State Insurance Commissioner to collect the full amounts due plus interest from the date of death. Been told by many insurance people that this company is the worst to deal with. They don't even deserve the 1 star I had to put up in order to post the review. read more

The customer service I received and the policies that govern this company are absolutely not client-friendly. As an established client, I contacted Americo to request a simple reduction in my life insurance coverage. I was told it would take a minimum of 20 business days, nearly a full calendar month, just to receive a response. That is an absurd amount of time for such a straightforward request. I was told requests are handled on a first come, first served basis. Does Americo only have one or two people capable of processing something this basic? I have no doubt that if I were calling to start a new policy, I'd have an answer within days. I asked to escalate the matter to a supervisor or retention department and was told it wouldn't matter because 20 business days hadn't passed. When I said I would cancel my policy, the representative showed zero concern. She simply read the cancellation policy, asked if I agreed, and processed it, no attempt to retain a long-time client, no questions, no accountability. Bottom line: nearly 30 days for a simple policy adjustment is unacceptable, and Americo clearly has no issue losing existing clients. That alone says a lot about how this company operates read more

We got our burial policies about 5 years ago. My husband just passed 3 month ago. Funeral home filed the claim, no issues there, and I received the remaining money back with a check. No problem or issues there either. Yes, would definitely recommend this company. read more

I opened an annuity account with Americo in October of 2018 with my life savings of $11,000. As of November 9th, 2024, my account is worth $10,862.57. Americo has charged me thousands of dollars in fees to manage my account. They literally charge me money to lose me money. They refused to let me have money unless I paid a surrounding fee of $800. we had a return of rider premium policy, we canceled it when the 20 years was up. I called to see if they received all the information they needed to get our money back and they refused to answer the question. I called several times to try to talk to someone, the first time I was caller number 115! Horrible customer service. the only thing I can do is wait up to 60 days to see if we get our rider premium back. read more

This is easily one of the worst companies I have done business with and I would recommend no one purchase an annuity from Americo. Probably a bad decision to purchase an annuity from any company, given all the commissions paid directly or indirectly, but Americo's terrible. As I've read in other reviews, customer service is terrible. Financial statements don't give full information. Interest rates on fixed annuities are misleading as, given the way the fixed interest is calculated, it's almost impossible to get the full interest rate promised. And then to cap it off, trying to withdraw funds is painfully slow - I was just told - after a few days of back and forth over forms - that it would take up to 20 business days - almost a full calendar month!? Emails- they will respond weeks and weeks later Calls- nobody picks up any calls, took us several weeks of trying during business hours to reach someone. They had my contract for 3 years and when I requested my money, they kept telling me it would be 10 days before they could send it. The last time I called they said it would take 15 days and the customer service rep was totally unhelpful. She just basically said i was wrong and that it was always 15 days. HUGE SCAM, STAY AWAY!! I purchased a costly life insurance policy after a convincing broker sold me on it. After 3 1/2 years of payments I researched the company and found many negative reviews -- most positive reviews appeared to be from new customers. I tried for three weeks to speak with a live representative to discuss my concerns. I received only automated responses and emails directing me to surrender the policy, which would cost me over $10,000. No one ever took the time to explain or address the poor reviews or my questions. The lack of transparency and human support destroyed my trust -- I would rather accept the large loss than continue paying them for another decade. I would leave a zero if possible but I want others to be aware and not be scammed like I was. First time home buyer and they present misinformation in order to lock you in a policy. They do not adequately listen to the customer and provide service that they need. I let the representative that kept calling me know that I already had life insurance and he informed me this was mortgage insurance. I'm so disappointed with this company! When I signed up with his company, I was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours with the agent. I stated that I wanted to get a Roth IRA account. Come to find out the agent, signed me up for life insurance, and annuity. Where most of the money is going to the life insurance. Which I am not interested in getting additional life insurance. Talk to the agent numerous times, and also called the company numerous times. Trying to cancel the life insurance part of it had the company mail out the forms and they mailed out the wrong forms. Kelsey, who responded to my request was friendly and put me at ease so I purchased a mortgage protection policy. I requested that withdrawals not start until July, but the company immediately withdrew the monthly amount. I shrugged it off. After 3 months, I never received a policy or follow-up about the details of the policy. I was unable to reach anyone at SFG or Americo. So I called my bank and told them what happened....I had basically been "scammed". I completed some documents and the withdrawals are being cancelled and refunded. Lesson learned! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Here's why. I put 2 clients in the Growth Commander annuity and placed them in the S&P IQ Index. Regardless of the explanation how this index is managed, ANYONE would Assume it is based upon the S&P Index (It's in the title), right? WRONG? In one contract the client should have been credited with approximately 12% since that is what the S&P went up over the first year. THEY CREDIT HER WITH .05%. Another client should have received about 16%, THEY WERE CREDITED WITH LESS THAN ONE. When I approached Americo about this I just got disclaimers about how it was not the "original" S&P so the returns don't compare. WHY HAVE THE S&P name in it if it doesn't REMOTELY reflect the S&P. THAT'S OUTRIGHT DECEIT!! Additionally, every company has 30 days to reallocate at the anniversary, BUT NOT AMERICO. They only give 14 days so now I can't even reallocate away from this disaster. This is a rip off, money grab, and just downright wrong. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! read more

DO NOT purchase anything from this company. Americo has the worst customer service or lack of it that I have ever experienced. Here are a few examples, if you would like a copy of your policy emailed to you (it is not available on the online portal as they advertise), they want to charge you $50 for it. Trying to reach someone on the phone is next to impossible. At the present time I am trying to cancel my policy, which again is proving to be next to impossible as well, they have automatically withdrawn the payment even after all the forms have been submitted weeks ago for the cancellation. AND NOW I have gotten a response telling me to do ALL the things I have already done MULTIPLE TIMES. GEE THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. They did respond to my bad review quickly so someone does work there evidently, although they did nothing to resolve my issue, it is the closet to "customer service" I have had yet from this company. read more
