When thinking about equipment for general fruit and vegetable cutting, I really just continually enjoy Victorinox's slicing knife indented, pineapple corer, a small swiss knife, and large swiss knife. Have one cookbook from ATK and like it; decided to order two more. Order placed 11 days ago - is nowhere close to getting to my home. Followed up with company because there was no tracking available: first got the auto-assistance; then apparently a person who was no more helpful - suggested that I get back to them if order not received in another two weeks! Requested that order be cancelled since, obviously, it had not shipped. Was informed that could not be done; that I should return the order when it arrives (paying postage of course); and that crediting my card would then require at least an additional two weeks. Will certainly send it back; found the books elsewhere at a much lower cost; fulfillment of the order required three days! read more

my review is about the competition they had. It was clearly biased just like Food Network competitions. They allowed one person to sabotage another and it caused her to be sent home. Do not buy a membership to ATK! Oh, you'll get access to recipes and then naturally save them to your bookmarks right? So, if or when you cancel their subscription don't ask me how they do this, but they take all those recipes you bookmarked and erase them. You don't get chit. If I could give their online subscription a Zero, I would. The recipes were ok, but you can find just as many on other services so I decided to cancel. The process was manipulative and infuriating. I tried to cancel online using the "cancel" button, but it was inoperative. I then called the number they gave to "talk about" cancelling. That led to a pitch for a medical device. I'm still not clear if it was a tape or a human being who would not stop talking. Finally got another number. Called that one. They could not find ATC. Finally found their number buried on their website. They offered me a lower rate but at that point I was so pissed off I cancelled. Watch and enjoy the show, but do not subscribe. I have a subscription to ATK but I only use it for ideas. Then I look up sites that actually know what they are talking about. Bridgette is likely the most unbelievable person on television. Her facial expressions are so contrived it is almost unwatchable. Her annoyance goes all the way back to the "Texas Chili" episode in the early 2000s. If you add beans and or tomatoes call it Boston style chili. There are many cooks out there, some trained and some self proclaimed but in the end it comes down to what do you like. don't let anyone tell you that you need to make a recipe as written the first time. If you don.t like something, leave it out. If the author doesn't give that option, find another recipe. There are literally millions out there and most of them have been plagiarized by everyone else trying to get a click. read more

I would give them less than no stars if I could- I went to their site, started to create an account- but deleted everything when I saw it was not free. BUT they still harvested my email address, that I deleted from the email field, and are sending me emails every day- not only that, they are sending me emails to my secondary account as well. I have tried to unsubscribe several times, but to no avail. I finally had to put their email address in the Blocked Sender/Junk Email Folder. Watching episodes on subscription TV. My background as great home cook of regional Southern and vegetarian, baking with sourdough and grilling: hungry for new recipes and fun tips. This show satisfies that need. Jack's reviews, really diverse male and female multicultural cooks and. He's- the part of coking for kids!! And The two hosts' fun, simple explanations- remodeled recipes. Love love love it. I somewhat agree with the critiques that revised recipes might not be authentic to the region. Instead the reader can go to a library and find old recipes: spoon bread, shrimp and grits, uses for Taylor ham, etc. but the newer recipes are so handy. You know they are truthful, so transparent on TV. Wouldn't it be nice if they were less subscription dependent. Ah well, somebody has to pay for all that experimental food in Massachusetts. Fun show. ATK is a Dishonest business. Beware, I was charged twice for my annual membership. I called customer service and one charge was refunded then my membership was cancelled. Horrible customer service. Discovered I have been billed annually since 2015 for their standard ATK following a trial subscription. I attempted to cancel online, no ability to cancel or edit cc information. The 800 number has a message that their audio quality is poor, and it would be 15 minutes to speak to a representative. After 35 minutes, someone finally answered and I was able to cancel. I thought it was a scam so I was hesitant to provide any info. WARNING Do not subscribe. They offer a free two week subscription presented as costing $4.18 a month but charge the whole $49.95 and refuse to refund any of it if you cancel even 15 days later. I talked to multiple representatives and two supervisors who all cheerfully stonewalled. They sell the subscription as $4.18 a month, and apparently in some conditions (which they know no one reads, assuming they are boilerplate) it says they will charge you for a whole year (I assumed it was monthly since it was sold that way) and I do not cancel for a year even if you cancel and do not use the service. read more

This is a total rip off! They are false advertising that their recipes are all free online, not true. You have to sign up and pay a monthly fee to use their website for the recipes. What a farce! I kind a like the show since there are some things that you can learn from watching, But I quit watching since it's too frustrating when yoru can't get a recipe for something you might want to try. Let's break down this review by sections! Just follow me through and draw your own conclusion! How can there be so many bad reviews on Yelp? 1. Let's look at the PBS tv series: To me, it is one of my all time favorite shows to view! During their show they usually go over two recipes, a segment on kitchen equipment, a review on some type of blind tasting product. I was introduced to this tv show years back by my father. Cooking and great cooks have been in my family for years. (Ha haha, how it did not continue with me?) To tell the truth, I am fascinated by cooking and what a great program to follow! 2. I have dealt with the America's Test Kitchen before and they have always been fare to me. One year I ordered two books, the "Cooking School" and another book. The books arrived during a major rain storm here in Dallas. Post person left them out were they got wet, and they were not in good shape. Reporting this to America's Test Kitchen, they took quick steps to make the issue right. 3. After a long time of observation I really liked the down to earth leading person on the show! *Now having this draft sit here for a good while, I am so sorry to see Chris move from this outfit! I love the ATK show and have watched it for years. I thought I'd try the "Free Trial" for fourteen days. The recipes were fine but didn't suit me so I tried to find how to cancel the "trial". Their contact page says phone or email to contact them so I emailed well ahead of the end of the trial. No response. I emailed again ahead of the trial deadline and received the standard "we're busy but we'll get to you shortly". Then they billed my credit card. I've emailed them five times to cancel this and stop bombarding my email with "offers" to no avail. It's to bad I can't type in large font boldface MONEY GRUBBING SCAMMERS! read more

As so many reviewers have said here, the recipes are good, but the business practices of the company that creates those recipes are nothing short of egregious. EVERY time I go to their website, my first thought is that I want to cancel any interaction I have with their money-grubbing, filthy, deceptive paywall. This is made all the worse when they get a hold of your email and then pepper you with messages that offer glimpses of enticing recipes that you then cannot access unless and until you pay them MORE money to subscribe to MORE stuff. Everything about this stinks of a business that is trying to use a last-century business model to squeeze every last penny out of a public that really has moved on. I thought that this place would improve once they separated from the insipid bowtied twit Christopher Kimball (he who is now ruining the food columns in the Sunday Boston Globe Magazine)...but unfortunately, no. The actual product is good, but I can't recommend it. If you subscribe, your credit card can't be edited, nor can a subscription be cancelled except by calling a 1-800 number and waiting an unacceptably long time to get through to an operator. In the internet era there's no excuse for this other than the obvious--they want to make it difficult to cancel. I purchased a gift subscription for myself to obviate the issue. Unfortunately, there was an "error" claiming the subscription and I needed to phone customer service anyway. If the company thinks they're coming out ahead with this outdated practice, they're delusional. I won't be purchasing another subscription (I would reconsider if the billing practice changed), and I've already talked one person out of subscribing. And unfortunately, that'll be the case whenever the topic comes up. Yes, this recipe came from Cook's Illustrated or America's Test Kitchen; yes it's delightful; no, I wouldn't recommend them. It's a shame, because I really like the recipes, reviews, and tips. The material is genuinely worth the price. However, it puts a bad taste in my mouth that this company follows the same seedy billing practices as much lesser publications. My suggestion to anyone who is charged for a subscription they don't want (or who can't wait around for 15+ minutes to cancel over the phone) is to reverse the charge with your credit card issuer. In the explanation for the charge dispute, simply say "Unwanted subscription. Company unreachable for cancellation," which is true by any reasonable standard. read more

Beware of this company. Their marketing techniques are unethical. I signed up for an online trial and when I went to cancel, I found that online cancellation is not allowed. You can't even edit your credit card information. You have to call in to cancel which has long wait times. I was really sick and by the time I was able to call in, I was two days past the 14 day free trial. Terrible customer service. I ordered 4 books for Christmas gifts on Dec. 4. I was charged on December 4, and as of January 8, I have not received anything. I have been told that they were undeliverable to my work address--a major business in a major city. I never received confirmation of the books being sent nor that the package was undeliverable. I called 3 times and was on hold for 15 to 35 minutes. I finally cancelled my order after I was told I had to call the post office to be sure that I had a valid address! I KNOW I HAVE A VALID ADDRESS! No more--I won't order their books from anywhere. I wish I had read these reviews before I ordered their books. Never again. read more

Great show but recipes are a little fussy - feels like extra steps and ingredients are needed to compensate for the original recipe. Also, let's be aware of the role we play in fueling the diabetes epidemic. We don't need to add sugar to salads, tomato sauce or sausage. Am watching S 12. : E2 and sugar is being added to sausage topping. Why? Let's be as aggressive in eliminating unnecessary sugar and diabetes as we are about eliminating plastic bottles and plastic bags. read more

I had forgotten I signed up for their internet access. My problem, yes. Today I was emailed notice of a charge and that was unusual so I started investigating just exactly what type of membership I had and what I was paying so I could CANCEL the "membership". It took over an hour between calls to the credit card bank and two to the Test Kitchen staff which at first refused to cancel the membership. Refused. Their charge had DOUBLED this month from $3.95 to $7.95 per month. No NOTICE. No where on their website does it mention charges - at all. There are lots of BAIT and SWITCH "come-ons" for NEW MEMBERS but no details about recurring charges. I had never ordered premier membership either. Did not know I even had it since once I log-in I am stopped from looking at their other websites until I UPGRADE. NEVER give them your credit card information. $96/year for access? What a con game. Whiners? The last person called us that when we are rightfully reporting fraudulent business practices and warning consumers. That's exactly what this site is meant to do. My review is in reference to the ATS's Cook's Illustrated web subscription. Upon receiving an email saying that my subscription would auto-renew in a couple of weeks, I readily logged onto the CI website in an effort to turn off the auto renewal and cancel subscription but to no avail. ATS doesn't allow subscribers to cancel subscriptions this way. So, you have to call 1-800-611-0760 and speak tell customer service you would like to cancel subscription. read more

So I signed her up and she and I fell for the website gimmicks that I describe here. Be aware of the following : 1. "$4.17 monthly" offer might be considered bate and switch advertising. NO monthly subscription despite the "$4.17 monthly" offer on America's Test Kitchen's home page for "Digital All-Access". The actual cost is an annual $49.95 subscription. 2. "14 Day Trial" NO Weekend Hours to cancel Trial of America's Test Kitchen. NO indication that weekend days do not count toward the 14 Day Trial. 3. 'Quick Click' add-on purchases happen because they have your credit card on file, so clicking to sign in again when you thought you were already signed in may sign you up for another subscription. read more

Their on line subscriptions are a rip off. You sign up on line, but can't cancel on line. They automatically charge your account and to cancel you have to catch them in the abbreviated business hours on central time. When looking up a recipe, the direct you to their other websites, and then tell you that you need to upgrade your membership to access them. I signed up for the free trial. In order to do so you have to give them your credit card, which is fair & reasonable. However, since I had not used the site during my free trial, I went on line to cancel. But I couldn't; I had to call. But it was Saturday, so no answer; need to call Monday. However, Sunday they charged my card. I thought that was dishonest on the face of it, but thought I'd give it a try anyway, so I didn't cancel. Three weeks later, I searched for a recipe, selected the only match in the list to my request, & was told to access it, I needed to upgrade my membership! This outfit has good tv shows, but their corporate management is poor. It's as though they are nickel & dining you at every turn. Other reviewers are right! I REALLY tried to give Julia and Bridget a chance because I know they're nice people BUT they just don't have it. They are so fake. They try too hard. The one that isn't cooking the recipe pretends she is surprised with either the ingredients or the method of cooking. Instead of saying something like, ..."as everyone at home I'm sure knows by now, you add a pinch of salt." She will say, ..."why do you add salt?" I'm a big fan of the magazine and show but thoroughly disappointed in their business practices, I ordered an annual from last year and had this year's turn up in my mailbox with a bill for $30. I did not order it, so I now need to go through the trouble of sending it back. Just because I bought something from you in the past doesn't give you the right to send me something and demand payment. It is near impossible to cancel their online membership. You can't do it online. They just continue to charge your credit card every year. So I tried to call them per their website instructions but they don't answer the phone. I've used their "EMAIL US" option but nobody has responded. Canceling your credit card may be the only option to avoid continued charges. I will NEVER use their services again.
