If you've ever gone thrift-shopping at any other Goodwill in this area, you know that they are usually not that clean. In fact, I'm typically skeeved out just entering the store and don't really want to touch, let alone try on, anything. Well, this store changed that for me. I went in with an open mind, and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted warmly by the two cashiers and to enjoy browsing the selection of highly organized racks of women's clothing. I even tried on two or three pieces before I left the store, though none of them fit me unfortunately. I do think this is the kind of store that you'd have to shop at fairly often in order to snag those wonderful, too-good-to-be-true pieces. The selection is good, but it's simply not large enough that you're guaranteed to find something on every visit. That said, I appreciated that the items on the racks seemed well-curated and carefully chosen, and they seemed as if they had been cleaned (whether by the donors or by Goodwill) before being brought to the floor. I'm definitely going to stop in this place regularly whenever I'm in Alexandria. I'm also going to join their rewards club so that I can get a discount on certain days and items. What I have seen so far, especially in my youngest niece, is growth, growth, and more growth. She's been in the toddler program since July and her cognitive, fine motor, verbal, and social skills are quickly increasing. She loves school and looks forward to going every single day. I'm not a satisfied with my older niece learning. Unfortunately she has been out of school for up to one week at a time due to illness which certainly may be impacting her learning. Hopefully she will be attending daily and can begin building her learning momentum. I will say that her class, from what I have observed through Brightwheel, is involved in a good number of social emotional activities that support their ability to make good decisions. They don't help police officers. They are basically a lobbyist group. They had the audacity to pay for an attorney to send me a letter rather than just respond to my email. I've had the pleasure of working with Elyse on a number of photo shoots. Initially, she took…read morematernity photos and then photos of my newborn daughter. Ultimately, I happily used Elyse to capture my business. As a local small business owner, Elyse encouraged me to develop a branding strategy that would tell a story on my business website and social media outlets. I really wanted the photos to enhance my mission, but also show the real me! We worked in a professional studio setting where Elyse took hundreds of photos over the course of 5 hours. There was no rushing and I felt so heard! She did an amazing job of listening to what I wanted, while also suggesting ideas that would make my vision that much better. It's obvious Elyse puts a lot of time and hard work into delivering quality photos. During post production she clearly takes the extra hours to comb through the details-things that I wouldn't normally deem important (ie symmetry, complimentary colors, and proper lighting.) She is a perfectionist, so I trusted that she would take the time to make sure I'd be happy with the end result. One of the biggest differences between Elyse and most other photographers that I've worked with is this: she makes you feel super comfortable while guiding you on how to pose. As a woman this is so crucial because it's really difficult to find a flattering stance. I never know how to stand or smile! I also have a hard time just looking natural. Elyse helped me figure this out in like 5 minutes! It always felt like Elyse had my back when creating images for me and my brand. I couldn't recommend her more.
