A tree fell on our home at the end of February. American Restoration was recommended to us. I wish we had never heard that name. Now let me start by saying at first I thought they would be great. They jumped right on it. Then things fell apart. There would be nobody at the house for days or a week at a time. The guy in charge had no idea what was going on at the house. He also didn't know much about the business he is in. He tried to hang a light fixture and my husband pulled the string and it fell and hit him. He also hung a ceiling fan and left all the wires exposed. I'm not an electrician and I know that isn't how it is supposed to look. We noticed that they weren't doing all the items on the insurance sheet. When confronted about why they weren't being done his excuse was always these insurance sheets are difficult to read and understand. I felt as though corners were trying to be cut. Insurance was paying for the whole side of our home to have new siding put on and they decided to just do a smaller section and use that on the damaged side. Which was the right decision but we were not even informed or asked. When confronted about the price change b/c this way would be a lot cheaper they said they would give us back the difference. If I hadn't confronted them I do not believe they would have even mentioned that this happened or given any money back. The level of professionals that were brought into our home was sad. The drywall crew of 2 showed up without a ladder and ended up using my husbands and standing on a stool from our kitchen that they ruined. The bathroom drywall job is a joke. The bottom of one of the walls has waves. There is mud caked in some places that they didn't sand completely. We knew that this was not a quality crew and asked the guy in charge to let us know before they started painting so we could approve. He didn't they painted over the mess. The painting job was also a joke. In one bathroom the painted over our hand towel holder. Paint was spattered all over the floor. They didn't clean up after they patched some things they just painted over it. They started rushing when the deadline was looming b/c they knew they were behind. They wouldn't have been behind if weeks hadn't gone by when nothing was done. Our house was also robbed while they were working at our house right before we moved back in. It was just very suspicious. The guy in charge called us on move in day and told my husband that they didn't have time to clean but they would credit that back to us. By not clean he meant they did nothing. Nobody even cleaned up after themselves. In my sons room they kicked his train sets to the middle of the room and destroyed them. They were supposed to pack and move it. They didn't. Once again it was something that I caught that they weren't going to do but I made them so it was a rush job. My daughter's room was packed but they brought the boxes and set them in our dining room. They didn't even carry them to her room. I was so disgusted by their service I went back through and really looked at the insurance sheets and questioned everything that was not done. I ended up with them owing me money for things that had not been completed. If I had not taken the initiative and reviewed and questions everything we would have owed them money. I felt like they tried to pull one over on us and they got caught. If we had been naïve they would have gotten a lot more money than they were due. Lesson learned for me and my husband. American Restoration was awesome! Before I bought my commercial office building, it had at least a decade of deferred maintenance, and the roof had leaked for probably that long, causing mildew and moisture problems that caused the prior owner's tenants to leave. That was a blessing for me! American Restoration cleaned up the mess and disposed of it in nothing flat (pulling/scraping/etc off drywall that had been glued to the block walls and had rotted in places). They solved the roof leak, waterproofed and framed in the interior walls and installed drywall, chair-railing, crown and shoe moulding, The worked on my time-table and gave me good advice that I'm glad I took. I now have one of the nicest real estate offices in the area, and it was done very inexpensively. I recommend them to my clients all the time. Just 2 weeks ago, one of the clients I referred to him thanked me for the referral, as I knew that this client was picky, and would only accept it "the right way".
