We were visiting Sweden in July 2017, Stockholm, Gavle and Kiruna…read more We had by far the best meal (dinner) in Gavle. If you are visiting Gavle or live there you must go and experience this place. I am very picky about beef. I like it very lean and no tendons to "fight' when cutting thru the meat. Well, at Brasserie Absint my wishes were fulfilled. Fantastic meat. Tasty, lean, tender and prepared perfectly to my wishes, and my husbands meat-dish to his wishes. The sweet potato fries perfect and tasty. I had a wonderful dessert but the Swedish name escapes me. I realize I must go back and review the specific names of the dishes we had and clarify those. Anyway if you are ever in Gavle, Sweden. This restaurant is a must. Brasserie Absint.

We were invited to this restaurant to finish a wonderful week in Sweden with friends. The…read morerestaurant was a superb beautiful place. Intimate, welcoming, clean, friendly people who wanted to make our visit a special one. And it was. Totally cool atmosphere. We got served from the owner, who was awesome. Staff was working hand in hand and you saw they like to work there. My concern was my food allergies. (No gluten, wheat, soy, dairy, peanut, canola oil, ..) And I got served my best meal ever. I had the deer steak, with grilled fennel, kohlrabi, potatoes in an awesome wine sauce. To look at the food and how they served it, was already 5 star. And it was so delicious... with the perfect light red wine from a great wine list. My husband had the steak. Perfectly cooked with great side dishes and potato gratin. It made our last night in Sweden very special. Thank you all for this. I would give you a six star if I could. We will come back if we visit Sweden again.

I went here for a business dinner with the mayor with 20 or so other people. The overall experience…read morewas quite delightful. The bread was fantastic; I had to give the waitress/waiter (we had both and it happened multiple times) doe-y eyes to get more bread. We started off the meal with swedish version of hashbrowns (or latkes). This was after a long discussion as per how every meal in sweden has come with bleak roe. And surprise, surprise along with the sour cream was a spoon full of more orange than normal bleak (the type of fish, not the depressing adjective) roe. But quite good, and I finished my plate. Afterwards was the main meal of moose (not the creamy kind, the elk/carabou kind), mashed potatoes, and lingonberry. I did not finish it but I tried. Quite amazing. Finishing the meal was a truely delicious rhubarb crumble, reminding one of an apple pie with vanilla creme. It had a delightful bitterness. I completed the entire thing, and I usually detest deserts. But my favorite part of the meal was definitely the surprise note and salts in the bathroom. The secret of Gefle, which I tried to decribe to people at the table, but given I speak no Swedish, I didn't do very well. They kept telling me Gavle was spelled differently. So I sent them in to translate. A great experience overall. Thank you.

Anna greeted us and served us as warmly and efficiently as you could ever expect. The Elk stew with mashed potatoes was a sure hit - rich in flavor and texture in a thin gravy sauce. Definitely our favorite restaurant in Gavle.
