The stage and space surrounding was great. It accommodated the performance very well. I volunteered to help break down the set afterwards, so I got a good look at the backstage area. I have a bit of experience with theater/performative arts, and I can say that this stage is an exceptionally good one. The show was wonderful, but of course that's more to the credit of the Academy, and the kids. Anyway, as I said I've only been here once, but it served the purpose it needed extremely well. I would definitely recommend the space here to anyone trying to find a stage for whatever reason.

I still really didn't check it out last Saturday. I only walked in the front door - to the right - and the event was in the banquet rooms to the right. If I had to guess about two rooms were used to accompany about 100 people. Overall, I was please with the center. I did see young boys enjoying the facility. I did notice this center is only open from 12p-4p on Saturdays. Unlike most recreation centers in the area, this one looks to be the the largest or in close competition with others in the city. Plenty of parking! Check them out when time permits. Have fun and enjoy life :)

This establishment offers: a full basketball court gymnasium, seating in the gym, a full kitchen, meeting rooms, a fitness center, office space etc. It is beautiful inside. Consider this place for all your event space needs at a great price. The Family Life Center is located adjacent to the main sanctuary. Plenty of parking and the entrance is handicap accessible as well. I attended the Grand Opening on a Friday night and the gymnasium was transformed into a reception area for 100+ attendees. There was still room to feature a live band that consisted of at least 5 members. I am loving it! The vibe is awesome and I cannot wait to use all the amenities this center offers. Hampton Carousel is hands down the best carousel experience I have ever had, and that goes the same…read morefor my parents who were with me. The gentlemen running it were incredibly nice and gave us an unforgettable tour of this classic piece of Americana. My parents and I had planned to make the Hampton Carousel a focal point of our recent visit to the area since my mother is a member of the National Carousel Association, and we were so glad we did. This was a gorgeous Sunday and despite that the area was relatively empty. We had very few other folks come by the carousel while we were there and so the two gentlemen running it gave us the grand tour, including of the central support pillar, the electronics adapted to assist the century-old organ, and the other historical artifacts lining the walls. They did so out of the kindness of their hearts and a genuine affection for the carousel and its history, which you just don't see in terms of commitment at most venues anymore. The price for all of this? $1 a ride. What a deal! The carousel ride itself was enjoyable, and it's very cool that they have so many tracks of the hit songs from each year the carousel has been open. You never know what you'll hear next! The pavilion containing the carousel is beautiful and sturdy, which is particularly important when it comes to protecting the carousel for the next century or so. This was a fun experience, and you can't beat the $1 ride price. Genuinely great fun for everyone, make sure you stop by if you're in the area! Overall: 5.0 stars ----- Pros: - Amazing staff who go out of their way to make your experience a special one. - $1 carousel rides? The price is right! - Beautiful pavilion in great shape. - Fun decor with a ton of history behind it. Cons: - None, even their hours are great. Make sure you stop by!

Hampton Carousel (HC) is ready for Halloween! I had read about HC from another Yelper and…read morebookmarked it for a day we found ourselves in Hampton and whaddya know, we found ourselves in Hampton last weekend, a lot sooner than I thought so this bookmark came in handy. Our kids love carousels so I knew this would be the perfect little pit stop before we made our way back to the other side. HC is located right next to the Virginia Air and Space Science Center. - Parking - There was not a dedicated parking lot for the HC that we could see, so luckily we found street parking nearby and it was free. - TLC - Two staff members were running the place. One by the admissions desk and one operating the carousel. The woman by the admissions started her spiel like a seasoned actress rehearsing her lines for the next blockbuster movie. She did not skip a beat. She told us that the HC turns 101 years old this year! Wow, pretty neat that they have kept this piece of history well maintained. - Pricing and Ride - The cost is one whole dollar. Cash only. And you get your dollar's worth too. The ride seemed quite long, like a good 5 minutes, but maybe that's just me. I was riding the sleigh (that doesn't even move!) and I was feeling a little queasy by the end LOL. Our kids on the other hand, couldn't get enough. HC was decorated for Halloween. The women encouraged the kids to make their way around the carousel to the different spooky and ghoulish figures to nab some candy before it spooked them. The kids had fun doing that! Well worth the visit to witness a bit of history and super cheap entertainment for the kids. Ride $1, smiles priceless. Stay safe, Friends!

Let's dive into details on how the visit was. The library is located right by an Elementary school and apartments. I only sat in the lobby area after walking inside to rest for a few hours to read a book I brought from home. Adjacent to the lobby, you have three entrances to the Treasurer, Commissioner of the Revenue and the main room to the library. I'm sure each area has been cared for by staff. For the lobby, it was spotless and each table appeared clean. And it was air conditioned well, which was good for me considering the Yelp Elite event was gonna be outside. Foot traffic was minimal. Very perfect for me with reading. Couldn't have asked for more. If you're in need for some quiet time, a library is always there. Thanks Norfolk Suffolk Library for providing it for yours truly :)

How did I never know this Recycling Center existed?…read more My son has been helping me purge my house of old computers, printers, monitors, etc. They had been taking up way too much space. The weight, removal of the hard drives & bringing them downstairs had been a formidable obstacle. My son researched & found the city's recycling center which really impressed me. The location was quite convenient. From the north side of town take I-64 to the Indian River East exit then an immediate right on the road that runs in front of Regent University. Then take a right turn on Jake Sears Road. The Landfill & Recycling Center is on the right and very obvious. One immediately sees a very large version of Mount Trashmore with no landscaping. I suspect eventually it might become a similar park. At the gatehouse show your driver's license as proof of Virginia Beach residency. Entrance is free for individual but has a charge for businesses. Since we had household electronic recyclables we were instructed to go to the HHW area, which was a beehive of activity. The employees didn't offer to help since my son was there. I'm not sure if that would be the case if I went alone. They instead pointed out the various spots where the different types of electronics should be placed. It was a quite a quick instruction. So be prepared to listen closely. The organization is terrific. There are areas separated by dividers for the different products. I even saw an area closer to the open front building where the employees were located that had refrigerators. I believe that was the area where the computers were placed. Getting out of the vehicle and walking to the building I was able to learn quite a lot from my questions. The items placed on the street by residences for bulk pickup aren't taken to Recycling. They go in the dump with other trash. But 100% of what we brought on our trip will be recycled. So it's much better for the environment to bring those items to the Recycling area than to leave by the street for bulk pickup. As we circled out of the area I saw the bins where wood & other items the city considers construction debris (even though most is not) are placed. They are not allowed as a part of curbside pickup. I've struggled with what to do with these since my husband died since many won't fit in the trash bin. These bins weren't ground level. So it required hoisting the items over the top of bins similar to those behind shopping centers or businesses. This area was quite busy with what must have been commercial drop offs. Were I to struggle with getting something into the bin, I'm certain one of them would volunteer to help a Senior Citizen. Don't dare tell anyone I described myself in that fashion. :) I'm happy to know how to dispose of wood that falls apart so quickly in my backyard that faces the Chesapeake Bay a little less than a mile away. The corrosive atmosphere is a terrible destroyer of metal & wood. This was a very productive & informative visit to the Virginia Beach Recycling Center. I wish I had known the extent of it years ago. Recycle! Don't trash!
