As I sat on the new lawn, only 100 feet from the new stage and 200 feet from where my mother was born in my grandparents first home in the old city center Czech neighborhood, I admired the clarity, excellent precision, and beautiful sound of the Czech musical program: the Slavonic Dance of Antonin Dvořak, and later the incredibly rich tone poem "Vltava" from Ma Vlast by Bedřich Smetana, lifted me to join their spirits. Our Czech family heritage lives, and Oklahoma City has a jewel it should appreciate more in this Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Maestro Mickelthwaite added his quirky and entertaining leadership and kindly noted that we, the audience, were all sitting on the very heart of the original 1890s Oklahoma City (remember, it was only 3 square miles back then, not the 600 square miles we suffer from today!) And he pointed outward to the west side of the park where the old historic Czech Hall is still standing, ready for the opening of its Beer Garden, and a new program of music for our city and lots of Polka Dancing for our children (ages 2 to 102). And it is the wealth of musical talent and experience from these members of the Oklahoma Philharmonic who will contribute to that new music venue at the Czech Hall of Oklahoma City, Lodge Laska. In thinking about the symphony, I can't help but to wonder about my ancestors…read more.. Under the Habsburg dynasty in Vienna, my old family contributed to the fabric of the city for centuries. While Mozart composed works of unrivaled and unprecedented beauty-- the likes of "Symphony No. 25," "Lacrimosa," and "Dies Irae"-- and later Strauss, famed for his classic waltz piece, and likewise an ode to the city's famed Danube, my ancestors proudly called Vienna home. They watched the city rise to become the heart of culture in Europe, and they remained in the city until nearly a decade after World War II. Now, here I am in a place that is the polar opposite of Austria's esteemed capital. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic certainly leaves something to be desired. While anything "Oklahoma City (insert cultural venue here)" makes one want to pinch the city on the cheek and say, "oh, that's so cute!" it still leaves a cultural void and vacancy for the would-be attendee. Their schedule is quite sporadic and erratic, and performances are relatively far apart from each other. This is in contrast to the New York Philharmonic, where musicians perform frequently and almost year-round. Sadly, it seems that musicians in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic need to request a night off from their shifts at Starbucks to perform on the occasional night they do have a show. I do give it two stars for effort, and being a step or two above what one might expect: "A Night With Toby Keith: An Orchestral Experience of a Homegrown Maestro"...or "Blue Collar Opera: Featuring Larry the Cable Guy and Brett Butler in a duet of 'Libiamo ne'lieti calici', Bill Engvall singing "Habanera" and Jeff Foxworthy performing 'O mio babbino caro'." While it seems to have managed to stay around, this organization needs some improvement, but methinks the local market will not support an expansion.

Private lessons are best because you'll learn the fastest. His group classes are really good and fun too. He has a fancier way of teaching than other instructors I've had and you'll be a good dancer in no time. Other classes I've had just seemed to drag, and you learn very little in each class. Richard makes it fun , it's great exercise, and his prices are more reasonable than anyone else I've had teach me. He always gives you more than you pay for, while other instructors I have had give you less than you pay for. I promise you won't be disappointed and you'll love the dancing!

It was a tiny bit cramped but everyone was kind and understanding. We never felt rushed, and the project was done in the allotted 2 hours for the workshop we were in. The staff available were great at keeping things going and being organized during the process. They have very detailed instructions and helped point out what was done with certain signs already made on the walls This is definitely the perfect place for a group of friends, a birthday party for adults and older kiddos who can handle listening to and following instructions. I personally plan to come back for another workshop.

They have two different rooms upstairs where the classes take place. Sometimes they have events in a bigger space downstairs. I've mostly taken Salsa classes there but they offer all sorts of styles: Casino Rueda, Bachata, Merengue, Belly Dancing, Tribal Belly Dancing, Kizomba, Zouk, Aerial Silks, Clogging, Line Dancing, Country Dancing, and more. They have classes for kids and adults. The environment is super friendly and welcoming. They make you feel at home right away. The drop in rate is $12 or $40 a month. In addition to group classes, they also offer private lesson, wedding and quinceañera dances, event venue and floor space rental. Being centrally located, they have students from Norman, Newcastle, Moore, Oklahoma City, Edmond and surrounding areas.
