This is in regards to the Lone Star Martial Arts Summer Camp. At first it sounded like a good,…read moreaffordable option for summer care for our boys (6 & 4), but things that concerned us kept happening. Here's some bullet points about our experience: - "Water Time" meant taking the 20+ kids to a private residence to swim in the pool. We don't know whose home it was, or where it was. - my wife picked up our sons, and saw no adults in the room. She gathered their stuff and left without checking out with anyone. (other reviews also mention the scarcity of adult supervision) - Movies and TV are left to mind the children, (which is fine in moderation, but my niece watched 2 netflix movies yesterday and the LSMA website says "no screentime") I did not want to leave this review - just wanted a partial refund for the 3 remaining days that we would not be sending our boys back (they already had our non-refundable registration fees), but the owner Mr Hodge (who would not give me his first name), was adamant that they don't do money back, and then hung up on me. Which makes sense, because this place is a racket.

My son has been coming to Lone Star since last summer. He participated in the summer camp and…read morestarted to learn karate. He loves it and has learned so much. The instructors are awesome and so patient with the kids! They are great mentors and you can tell they want each kid to succeed. They have different class times throughout the week to help parents get their kids there on time. Great place to learn karate!!!

Our family has attended NTKA for 9 years. Logan (son), started when he was just 4 years old…read more Shortly after, Todd (dad) joined as well. This was a fantastic father/son activity that promoted health and fitness along with providing a fun, wholesome activity to enjoy together; great quality "dude" time! The school embraced both of them and they were instantly part of the NTKA family. Although Logan started before Todd, Todd quickly caught up and they ascended the ranks together and achieved each belt at the same time. Talk about supportive, encouraging, very constructive and healthy competition! Years later while attending Todd and Logan's red belt test, I watched the NTKA women who were also testing and had huge admiration and respect for them. They all had such strength and confidence in everything they did, and I thought, "I want that." I started Tae Kwon Do when I was 35 and have done things I never thought I was physically or mentally capable of! As a woman, practicing a martial art gives you such a confidence boost. It also helps keep you healthy and fit, which as we get older, is so much more important. Sensei Amy Seeling is what makes NTKA what it is. She's built the school from the ground up and her leadership empowers all students; men, women and children to be the best person they can be. It's not all about punching and kicking - - - we live by a student's creed that includes how you conduct yourself, even while not at the dojo. With our family of 3 all attending NTKA, we have an extended family in the dojo, we have a shared activity and experience we can practice with each other and talk about on the same level, and we have another outlet for encouraging each other to be the best we possibly can, both on and off the mat. Of course TKD is great for children; it helps with their growth and development as people, and gives them a strong foundation to always be able to protect themselves. But, if you're an adult thinking it's just for kids or adults who have been practicing since they were kids, do NOT let your age, fitness level or inexperience deter you from trying it out! You will be surprised and amazed by what you are capable of when someone just shows you what to do. The NTKA instructors are calm, patient, and they love what they do. They are so eager to share their knowledge and watch you succeed! Come join our AWESOME COMMUNITY!

Over the years, he's gotten better and better at training and teaching, and he's helped me go from White Belt to 6th Degree Black Belt. There are only a few people in the world with his depth of knowledge, and if you're luck enough to live near his karate studio, you should sign up and take advantage of it. After I got my Black Belt in 2000, I worked for Rick Fowler for two years and then opened my own school. He's been a great mentor and coach. We have 325 students now in Carrollton at my studio, and we're about to open another location! I know that Rick will be there to help me every step of the way.
