Contractors are hard to find and our best ones seem to be contracted with them It's a great way to have a contractor prescreened for valid licensing and for the 3rd party liability, worker's compensation, general, and automobile insurance needed to protect our home ownership whenever we have someone working in our home. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL EXPERIENCE. I do not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. I've had multiple issues with them, and their customer service has been consistently unhelpful. First, my pipe leak claim was denied and I lost my $100 service fee with no real explanation. Then, when I needed an electrician, things somehow got even worse. I specifically arranged to take Monday, December 1st off work so I could be home for all scheduled repairs. I planned this well in advance. AHS assigned me to JC Electric, who later informed me they could not come on that date and told me to contact AHS to be reassigned. When I called AHS, they told me they needed verbal confirmation from JC Electric before assigning a new technician--but they couldn't reach them. I was essentially left with no solution. The next day, after another long hold, AHS finally reached JC Electric, who confirmed they could not service my home on December 1st. After all of that, I was told AHS still could not assign me another professional and that I had to work around the technician's schedule--not the other way around. How does that make sense when I am the paying customer? Their process is inconsistent, their policies contradict themselves, and their representatives keep you on hold endlessly with little to no resolution. I'm a disabled vet with PTSD and I'm been struggling because I've been waiting in my hot home for over 3 weeks for AHS to get an HVAC installed. Because of them and their contractor Front Door Pro, the appointment for my installation have been rescheduled twice. I've taken off two different times to be home for the installation just for them to call the day of for the day before and cancel. I've reached out to the Front Door representative Tammy George who's supposed to be the liaison between me and the service provider via email a few times and I've left messages with her office, the other Front Door Pro representatives seem to be helpful but I still haven't heard back from Tammy George yet about getting my HVAC installed and the contractor has been paid for over a week yet I'm still sitting in the heat with no appointment for the installation. Horrible experience This company uses unreliable contractors. A technician came to fix my dryer and left my apartment without power, resulting in $900 in electrical repair costs. One of the worst companies I have worked with. I have been insured with them since 2022. They are prompt for very small repairs like a toilet that wont flush. But when I needed a water heater replacement, the plumber that came out said they wouldn't replace it till it exploded. I had to replace it at my own cost since I didn't want to wait for the explosion. After this, they said they would reimburse me at 20% of what I paid ($590, I paid $2600). Six weeks, 5 phonecalls later, there is no check. Somehow the checks that they mail never arrive. I have now been assigned a concierge to work through this issue. Do not use this company! They are super nice when you sign up, even accommodating when you requested to cancel because you wanna lower price. They will give you the lower price. But when you have an emergency, like your furnace going out, they will drag their feet for 6 days (so far no resolution), in the middle of winter, before any action is taken. You will never get a manager on the phone, you will wait hours to get a response. When you leave a message, they basically do not care about their customers when it comes down to Repair's. According to AHS they only have one vender in the entire City of Wichita and service cannot be accomplished for 3 days. AHS is a deceptive scam company that happily takes your money and then denies the simplest of claims. I paid in for about a year and a half and my very first claim for a $280 washing machine repair was denied. When I called AHS to ascertain why the claim was denied, I was told that the repairman they sent out stated on the estimate submitted to AHS that the repair needed was not from normal wear and tear. Yet, they refused to send me a copy of the estimate. I called the repair company directly and asked to speak with the repairman they sent out, but never received a call back from him. So, I paid in about $1000 to AHS plan plus the $125 for my first claim that they denied. The washing machine repair absolutely was from normal wear and tear. I have been a client with multiple properties for several years. When I reported problems, contractors came out. One fix was a $4,000 dollar quote after a $150 site visit. Quote was high because AC unit in ceiling was considered inaccessible for full repair. I called ACH and they occurred, but I could pay another 159 for a second opinion. Instead I called a company on my own. Total repair cost was $265. Contractors come out and collect the fee but have no intent on solution. ASH supports contractors. If this were the only case it may be a one off, but we had similar situation with a fridge. Contractor blamed it on plug. AHS required another site visit to look at electrical. In the end it is still the appliance which they cannot or will not repair. We then cancelled ASH after years of payment. And they don't make that easy. Save your money. Took five days to finally get an answer after AHS sent a contractor to look at my hot water heater. Then AHS tells me the contractor wants $1190. to replace my water heater. I contact plumbing contractor and they give me list of this and that required to replace water heater. I think there were 4 items that each sold in the range of $25-$45. The only justifiable charge might have been a permit. I contact AHS and they offer me $480 to buy my own water heater (they start at nearly $600), but they will only give me the money after I give them a receipt from a licensed contractor. Anyway after several calls (good luck finding someone who doesn't have a nearly indecipherable accent) I tell them I want to cancel my contract with them. They offer me a couple free months and the $125 service charge for not fixing my water heater. I declined their offer. What good is their warranty I wanted to know. Only have it assigned to a 3rd contractor that the escalation department was "nice enough to confirm to work on Kitchen aide * 3rd appointment set to inspect what has been already documented. Now they will reinspect and notify me if and when they will repair. I called it from my first contact this simple repair will take a month. Should have just bought a new dishwasher and installed it. I spoke to an attorney about breach of service contract and there is enough to file a class action suit. They are actually looking into it and will be moving forward. I could go on and on about this poor excuse of a company. We have had them for four years. At first they were great. We put in a request for our dishwasher to be fixed in March. It is now august 8th and we are still without a dishwasher. We have been told we are waiting on a part for this amount of time but they keep changing the date on which it was ordered to most recently 7/15. Then on July 30th I was told I would be receiving a new unit. I have proof of this yet the company is denying it. On top of this we requested for our air conditioner to be fixed in may. It is again, august 8th, and we are sitting with a broken air conditioner and broken promises from the warranty company. Someone quoted the air conditioning company $400 out of pocket to us and said they would put in the request only to find out two days later they went to another company to ask for another opinion (after we have been waiting 3 months for this to be fixed) too then say that we would have to cover 1300 out of pocket. I've had American Home Shield for almost 6 years now. At first, they were worth the money. Had a water heater fixed, and then replaced. Had an AC serviced, including refrigerant recharge, for just the usual service fee. And had an issue with my washing machine covered as well. But now, they are fighting the coverage of my second AC unit. They say it was modified from the manufacturer configuration, and the failure was due to the modification. Well, I didn't modify it - it's exactly the same as when I bought the house 6 years ago. They sold me on a warranty that covers everything that came with the house. NEVER NEVER NEVER, purchase a warranty from this company, this is the biggest scam I have ever seen, after paying for the best plan they have for years, I needed to use them for my air conditioning, they would not let me pick a repair facility (vendor) then made me use Infinity Home systems, which has 1 star on Google for a reason. They told me I needed a new valve because it was leaking, but it still had about 8 lbs left in the system (I saw him hook up the gauges), he then told me that the warranty company only covers $10 per pound and I need 10 lbs. I said wait I saw the gauges, and you just told me its only 2 maybe 3 lbs low at the most, he said well its a gas so I have to let it go. Which is illegal to let a gas knowingly into the atmosphere. I work with automotive AC you have to evacuate the gas then repair it then recharge. Then he said he will notify my warranty company with in 24 hours and they will contact me. A week later I had to call them, and the HVAC company had still not input his work order, so I was told it should be ready in 48 hours and that they would call me, well a week later I had to call back, and then I found out that Infinity told them the repairs were over $2400, I needed a valve that was leaking, a complete recharge and I needed to have my low pressure pipe replaced because it is bent and causing the pipe to leak. Which was all BS. I told the warranty company that they were being ripped off and that it only needs the valve (which I found for $85.00) and 2-3 lbs of freon. AHS said they can only go by what the vendor tells them and that unfortunately I would need to come out of pocket $2100 to get it repaired.
