I started at American Dojo almost 3 years ago. As a senior adult I had my concerns about martial arts training. Because of my concerns I checked on different martial arts academies. I found others lacking in good instructors who cared about their students, a lack of one-on-one instruction, and some where I felt I could buy my way into a black belt. My first visit to American Dojo was completely different. First thing I noticed was all the instructors were smiling and very positive. The next thing I noticed was that the instructors broke down movements and kicks into small segments so that the complex nature of Tae Kwon Do was much easier to grasp and most importantly giving all of the student's individual attention and an amazing amount of encouragement. The other thing I noticed was that they would sit down with all students at the end of the classes and talk about the word of the month. Words such as health, goals, listening etc. All words that the younger students need to hear and to understand better. The students including myself were all encouraged to explain what they felt the words meant and give examples of how they followed these words with their actions. These words were not just words anymore but became the start of life lessons. I watched the young students all pay attention and participate. What a great learning experience for all of us. I am close to earning my black belt. Based on some physical limitations I have it has been a really hard journey for me, but I have a special pride knowing that I've earned this belt. My self and all the students of all ages receive excellent instruction and a tremendous amount of motivation from Master Konley and all his instructors, they also know what each student needs individual attention with and works with each student to help them succeed. I truly believe what the staff at American Dojo does with their students makes such a positive difference in each of our lives, and can only enhance the life skills that our children will need as they become adults. read more

The staff of American Dojo is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. All the instructors know the students by name and are always willing to help. The classes provide a family atmosphere where martial arts is taught as well as life skills and leadership. Our daughter has been a student at America Dojo since August 2014. We couldn't be happier. She has gained confidence in so many areas of her life because of the amazing curriculum American Dojo uses. They really focus on developing leaders on the floor and off. She joined the leadership program and loves learning the weapons forms and being able to learn how to spar along with all of the skills that allow her to change belts at a pace that gives time to gain understanding and confidence in the forms being taught. The staff at American Dojo are wonderful. They are attentive, experienced, kind, and show an interest in every single student's success. This place is great! Friendly atmosphere, clean facilities, involvement in the community, and the breadth and depth of the martial arts taught here is unmatched! Whether young or old, they instructors are all great people who are devoted to the martial arts. Respect, focus, and leadership skills are built into every class which most beneficial for the kids, we all could use a refresher course! They also do Women Self Defense seminars, bring in world renowned martial arts experts, yearly expiditions to martial arts seminars (South Korea, Philippines, San Francisco, Chicago) do special "movie/pizza nights" to give parents some alone time, and many other things. As the parents of a little girl, we decided early in her life, that when it was appropriate, we wanted her to learn a form of self-defense. In the 6 months she's been attending classes at American Dojo, we've seen leaps in both her confidence and her assertiveness. She's now participating in school discussions and actively volunteering in both her Dojo classes and her school environment. The instructors are skilled and knowledgable while still being able to communicate well with younger children. They build the students confidence without offering empty accolades. American Do Jo has been a good investment in my son's life. We started our journey through their home school program a couple of years ago. The environment is positive and uplifting. The instructors are caring and walk the talk. Master Konley has been inspiring, yet firm, in setting expectations on what it means to become a Black Belt. He and all of his instructors lead by example. Tae Kwon Do is so much more than simply exercise and fun, it teaches values and discipline too. I highly recommend it to parents looking for a great environment for their child to grow physically and mentally. Knowing that Master Konley is a Christian is a bonus. At our last parent teacher conference our son's teacher reported that he is among the most focused, determined and disciplined child in his class. While I'd like to take full credit for this behavior I have to give more than a little credit to American Dojo Martial Arts. Their daily classes instill in the kids just what our son's teacher reported, disciplined, focus and determination. Children are rewarded for bring in good grades and are recognized for outstanding leadership behavior and attitude. And to top it off, our whole family is able to train and practice together. 3 years ago my daughter asked to take karate lessons. I asked around and American Dojo was the clear winner among my friends. I can't imagine a better activity for a pre-teen girl - the discipline and confidence she has gained at American Dojo is priceless. The instructors command respect without yelling or harshness. The family atmosphere is so strong that I joined in a year ago - very overweight and 36 years old. I have never enjoyed exercise this much in my life. No slacking because you are older or out of shape, but not everyone is held to the standard of the 20 something athlete either. read more

American Dojo has a fantastic staff that goes above and beyond. They not only teach martial arts skills, but they mentor students in life skills. The academy has a wide range of instructors that connect to every age level. I originally signed my son up for classes and he enjoyed it so much that I thought I would give it a try. My parents signed me up at American dojo three years ago, and at first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but over the past three years of attending American dojo I have had a wonderful experience. Me my brother and my three sister are all involved and it is a great and fun source of exercise, self defense, confidence, self discipline and focus.
