I appreciate how much detail he gave me and the time he spent making sure I understood everything. As a new homeowner, I found the experience with McCardel really good. They'll definitely be one of the first places I call when I need restoration work. They do charge an estimate fee ($150 at this time) but I think that's probably a sign of a good company that provides thorough estimates. I feel like I got my money's worth with the estimate and I can roll the cost of it into my project.

The team quickly moved the furniture, removed much of the water, and placed drying equipment in the house. Justin came over to assess the work the next day, which was a Saturday. Follow up was excellent. Restoration then had me work with Dan Weber on the reconstruction of the basement. This included reinstallation and some replacement of custom molding baseboards which were no longer available. Dan went far above and beyond to create a great solution. The humidity was unbearable. Our insurance agent first highly recommended a company who did an incredibly poor job, the first company actually caused more financial damage than they helped with. The first company didn't even set up a containment barrier. As a result I did my own research and I called Restoration1 of Grand Rapids for a second professional opinion. I can't imagine my family's well-being if I didn't get this second opinion from Restoration1. What was initially a "completed" $3k repair (by the insurance company's buddy and recommended vendor) turned into a $100,000+ remediation job once Restoration1 of Grand Rapids came in and laid out the facts and documentation to the insurance company. This is why you too should do your own research, and work with a company that isn't a puppet to the insurance company. Restoration1 of Grand Rapids was fair, worked with facts, and acted in good faith. Your family's health is at risk when you are subjected to these kinds of damages and your insurance company may downplay things in the beginning to avoid the realistic responsibilities of doing good quality work, which isn't cheap. It is why we pay insurance premiums and it is contractually intended for these events. Restoration1 saved my family's health from certain mold and also saved our financial future by helping document and support my claim by IICRC standards which many insurance companies state in their declaration pages to guide remediation to properties. From what I have seen, Restoration1 does remediation work by the books and they seem to have water and mold remediation standards memorized extremely well. Our son was a baby at the time of this catastrophe and he was immunocompromised, having breathing difficulty without presence of mold. We were extremely concerned for his safety and we became afraid of our own home. Cody, Kass, and Ryan, along with their extremely hard working staff guided us through the process and educated us on IICRC standards they would work through. Their expertise and ability to stay organized through the lengthy process alleviated our stress and they helped order air mold testing services on two separate occasions to add extra support to the claim against our insurance company and also show improvement for us to feel safe going back into the home. Now, I recommend Restoration1 to literally anyone when I hear the words house fire, storm damage, water damage, flooding, mold remediation, or smoke remediation. They are the professionals and no other company could be better to work with in my opinion. Several hours after this basement claim wrapped up, there was a huge storm (Last August 2023) and a tree went through our roof causing water to go through 3 floors... guess who we called? It was pure stress until calling Ryan, and Kass got on it right away even though there was a huge power outage and blocked roads affecting the county. This time we were more relaxed, having a lot of trust their process and we have the greatest appreciation for the hard work they do. We are nearly wrapped up with this new claim and while I hope we don't need their services in the future, they will be my first call and they have a permanent place in my phone's contact list.
