Gretchen Fluegel at The Amen Clinic is amazing. She is always on top of the clients' needs and is extremely timely in her responses to my (sometimes) desperate and untimely requests or questions. Whether it is refill for my meds or help with the patient portal; I can always count on her to get back to me quickly. She is upbeat, caring, and personable. I'm not sure what the clinic or I would do without her, but I hope we won't have to ever find out!!! Thank you and God bless you, Gretchen. Lynn M read more

I wanted to make a further comment after receiving my scan results. I left an initial review on the Walnut Creek office. The office and staff were great! The results provided by Dr. Danial Amens appointed Doctors or should I say N.D, was not good! I came to the Amen clinic for a specialist that focuses on the Brain and perform a scan that goes beyond what an ordinary hospital or V.A can perform. I have been spent over $5200 with Amen to get a scan and a doctor to review and assist me in progressing the damage my brain has sustained from a TBI in the United States military and many other injuries after that. You claim you're a doctor but cannot assist me in time off? I spent three days angry, after talking to you on zoom meeting. I was scared and trying to comprehend all the areas of my brain you said were affected with damage. I initially walked into the clinic on day one and asked the front desk to have a doctor sign a release form so I could go back to work, because my current employer thought I might be a liability since I informed them, I needed two days off work for imagining of my brain. Only "After" my zoom meeting with Dr. Mendenhall, was a freaking out and scared from the results of the scan. I clearly stated that work was causing me sleepless nights for years and I worked in hostile environments on a daily basis, working as an Investigator. The biggest issue was I was in a vehicle, alone for 12 hours a day and getting irregular sleep, due to the unethical scheduling from my employer. My issue is that I'm told in this email from Dr. Mendenhall that she does not have a long history with me and I should seek time off from my primary care doctor.... Then why the hell would you prescribe me an "ANIT-DEPRESANT" along with another synthetic sleep aid? You are the brain doctor, and my primary care doctor is just that, "PRIMARY CARE!" They do not specialize in the brain and that is why I came to Amen clinic. If you do not have a history with me, do not prescribe me a drug that is an Anit-depressant when I am NOT depressed. I can take a photo of the bottle and the remaining pills inside the bottle. I had to stop the medication because it almost ended my life on I-680 on August 5th. I had to stop in the express lane because my vision suddenly viewed everything like I was under water. I could not see any cars or even my hazard lights. I thought I was going to get rear ended and die that day. Two minutes later my vision slowly came back, and I proceed to my mother's that is a retired medical nurse. This occurred an additional time for 30 seconds after I made it back home and thankfully, I was in the presents of my own house. After speaking to my therapist, I explained what occurred while driving and she asked what changes in my life occurred. I explained I completed my brain scan, and the results were not good. I was nervous, scared and an emotional wreck. I explained my recovery was three phases and emailed her my treatment plan and the zoom video between my doctor and I. My therapist got back to me right away and asked why I was prescribed an Anit-depressant when I've never been diagnosed with depression though my 30 years with Kaiser, my post evolution in the Marines, nor through Sutter Health? I explained that Dr. Mendenhall stated it was for anxiety and nothing about depression, so I took the medication. After further investigation the drug "Bupropion", I immediately stopped the drug. The side effects were everything I was experiencing. I even informed Amen clinic I took blood pressure medication, and Bupropion elevates blood pressure, which it did, and is known for causing "HALO'S and vision issues". I have anger disorder and it elevated that as well. How can a N.D functional doctor for Amen, prescribe me non-natural medication but not assist me in providing a medical note to allow me to try and proceed with a treatment plan to heal my disastrous results? She clearly understood my work and also stated in the Treatment plan, that I needed to "Avoid occupational isolation, seek work that involves regular socialization with others and minimize time alone in my car!" How do you need a longer history with me to provide me time off to heal my brain? You are the specialist and that is what I paid you $820 for 1.5 hours of your time on zoom. I paid an additional $200 to prepare two short reports and another $390 for "Initial comprehensive and management". The aftercare, after my initial testing at the Walnut Creek location has been dog shit! I did not need synthetic medication for anti-depression, and I did not need Trazadone to get sleep. Trazadone (another synthetic drug) had me bumping into workout machines the next day and also made me feel like I was seasick. What I needed was some time off to heal and complete the phases you stated. read more

The providers here are the absolute best I've had in the last 40 years! They *are* a bit pricey but it is *absolutely* worth it! They take care of so much bureaucracy that stood in my way with previous MDs. I've been with Amen for the previous 6.5 years and I've seen providers at the Walnut Creek and Orange Co. locations. This is top tier care and I recommend them without reservation! read more

I agree with the other reviewer from 5 months ago who stated "I had the distinct displeasure of dealing with Bianca at the Walnut Creek Clinic" she treated me the exact same way- cutting me off, shouting over me, not listening to what I was asking of her & the icing on the cake: she transferred me to the Costa Mesa clinic simply because I had questions about what other imaging modes besides qEEG & SPECT are used by the doctors & noctors at Amen Clinics. I cannot believe they charge as much money as they do & they talk to people like they are at a medicaid community clinic. read more

My journey with Amen's Clinic has been nothing short of life-changing. For years, I struggled with mental health issues that I managed to mask, but I knew I needed an accurate diagnosis to finally move forward. As someone who advocates for my own mental well-being and does extensive research, I discovered Amen's Clinic, pioneered by Dr. Daniel Amen. I knew immediately this would be a pivotal step in my recovery. The evaluation process took about 6-8 weeks and was incredibly thorough. It included a variety of tests, with two in-house scans and exams that gave a detailed understanding of my brain function. The level of assessment is unmatched--it's precise, comprehensive, and gave me the clarity I had been searching for. Since my assessment last year, my life has improved dramatically. You'll be assigned a care team of professionals throughout your assessment and intake, and when the final results of your scans are reviewed (you'll have extensive reports/documents/pictures and video of your results + brain scans), the team follows up for the first few months to make sure you're treatment and well being are monitored and supported. The treatment plan they created for me has given me a better quality of life overall. If you're considering Amen's Clinic, I can't recommend it enough. It's well worth the investment for anyone who wants to take control of their mental health. You deserve to put yourself first, and Amen's Clinic provides the kind of care that can truly make a difference. read more

I always knew my kiddo had a form of ADHD and for the first six years of school it went amazingly well. Then it didn't. I'm not a fan of throwing a bunch of medication at a kid and seeing what sticks. This is why we went to the Amen clinic. Their services have been life-changing and Dr Mendenhall I think is one of the top in her field. My kiddo is now very happy and thriving in school. I I absolutely recommend their services. read more

I found this to be a great option but very confusing. There's Dr. Allman then whose video annoyingly plays in the waiting room for somebody with a head injury. This is insane, self-centered, selfish, and clueless to needs of their patience. That said he has some great vitamins. he has some books and some great people working for him, he's done a great job educating hundreds of professionals as to a unique insight into the brain. I just hate when serious professionals go way overboard on their marketing. This is one of those cases. read more

Amen Clinics - Waiting Room Area - Counseling & Mental Health Near Me - Walnut Creek, California

I just want to say that my entire experience with Amen Clinic, from the first call to the visits to the clinic to the virtual meetings, has been amazing. I was so worried about my child, and I didn't know how to help, and I wasn't satisfied with the mainstream psychiatric care. Getting a comprehensive plan forward after brain scans, blood tests, cognitive testing, and more, all being considered, gave me much more peace for the journey forward than I had after the 15-minute meeting she had with a psychiatrist in the past. I know the cost is a lot if your insurance doesn't cover it, but it is so worth it. I want to give a shout-out to Dr. Alaidroos, who was so professional and kind. When we met with her, it wasn't 15 minutes and here is your prescription. It was over an hour-long meeting, and she gave us a comprehensive plan forward. She answered all of our questions and has been available to answer questions that we have had outside of the meetings at no extra charge. She is awesome, and I wish she could be my primary care doctor. Phanet Lao is Dr. Alaidroos's assistant, and she is great, too. She is always available, answering our emails the same day, usually the same hour you send them. She is our connection to Dr. Alaidroos between appointments. I am so impressed, and one example is that when my child's prescription needed a refill, she told us and sent the request over to the pharmacy. We didn't even realize there were no more refills, and Phanet handled it before we realized it was a problem. it is so comforting to me to know that we have someone on our side like Phanet. Briel Pikal is a patient outcome manager. She had a meeting with us a few days after our meeting with Dr. Alaidroos. It was so great meeting with her after because she was able to help us understand anything we didn't, and she was a place to ask questions we didn't think of before. She was also helpful in helping my child with the plan from the doctor and supporting her as she moved forward with the plan. Thank you so much to all of you. I thank God for people like you. For anyone considering coming to the Amen Clinic, I highly recommend them, but not if you are looking for someone to fix you; you have to do that yourself, but if you are looking for a clear path towards freedom and someone to help you as you walk that path then you will be pleased. If you can't afford it, there are so many books from Dr. Amen and free resources and information on their website. I read "You Happier" recently, and it gives so much information for you to help yourself. read more

Unfortunately as we continued on our journey we were nothing but disappointed with the services from Dr. Johnson. What a waste of SO much money. Our first follow up with him, he was unprepared, didn't have the correct results and rushed us off the meeting. Our second follow up was again extremely rushed, sped through our questions, didn't even seem sure himself off the results or answers. We scheduled a doc to doc call with our psychiatrist and him and sadly she reported the same thing. Dr. Johnson rushed her through the meeting, wasn't helpful and didn't provide any positive feedback for her to work with. In the end, we paid $6000 to find out what we already knew and didn't get the help we so desperately were searching for. I have yet to contact the office about this but will be soon as we have just completed all follow up appointments. read more

This is the best Psychiatric clinic in the world. I highly recommend this place to those who want to change their life.

I am very excited to say that the Amen Clinic has my highest recommendation and praise in treating my dementia, (MCI) abd ADHA. Briel Pkka, (Patient Outcome Manager) my counselor, has been with me all through my treatments, and my biggest 'cheerleader!' throughout every sessions with my nutritionist, D.O., and my psychiatrist with the staff that takes care of the 'Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments'. Cannot wait to have my six month brain scan for improvement in healing. Already feel clearity. Daryl read more

Dr. Alaidroos is fantastic. Patient, caring, and listens to all your information before suggesting solutions. Would highly recommend.

I usually don't write reviews about anything. Even if I end up with a crappy product purchased from Amazon LOL. I do read them however, so hopefully this will help someone who may be looking and needing some help. I came to Amen clinics desperately needing some help. I won't into detail but it was dire and I didn't have much time. The cost did initially seem high but when I thought about it and months later, it's a drop in the bucket. We spend 1k on a apple cell phone...a phone, tens of thousands on a car...a car, thousands on material objects we don't need. I could go on but, how much is your life worth? I'm pretty damn sure it's priceless, so you should keep that in mind before making a decision. Something I learned during this experience is that it's a partnership between Amen Clinics and yourself. They followed through with everything they promised but it was ultimately up to me, to make the changes I needed with care I received. The SPECT scan results revealed some startling news that I otherwise wouldn't have known. My case manager Mona did a great job of gathering my personal information and story. Checking up on me and making sure I was staying on track with my treatment. Dr. Alaidroos has done an excellent job treating me. She saw me at my worst and was non judgmental, caring and understanding. Everyone has their own opinions on medication and we shouldn't judge or have to argue about someone's views if they don't match our own. I needed them in my case and Dr. A nailed it on the first day without having to bounce from medication to medication. Dr. A has seen my progress and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her care. I liked her so much that after my treatment had ended she is still my doctor whom I continue to see. Phanet is someone else who I would also like to thank. Any question I had or help I needed in between my appointments, she was there for me with a genuine sweet attitude. She's my other lady along with Dr. Alaidroos LOL. She always replies as quickly as she can, usually the same day and does so with a great attitude. I'm not a very social person but never felt unwelcomed whenever contacting Phanet. I owe a lot to Amen clinics. Seeking and getting the care I deserved was no easy task but won the lottery Dr. A and Phanet. Thank you!! read more

Amen Clinic helped me save my daughter's life. Their expertise brought her back to me. This review recognizes the hard work of the Office manager, Gretchen. She is an assistant to Dr. Mendenahall. She is always there for me, constantly encouraging my daughter and finding ways for her life to be fulfilling. Thank you Amen Clinic staff. read more

I was pretty underwhelmed by the clinic. I didn't find the SPECT scan to provide information that was that helpful. And the treatment recommendations can be obtained from other professionals for less of a fee. The clinic does think outside of the mainstream treatment approach, which is good, but, again, you can get the same approach for less money elsewhere. The worst thing about the clinic is the administration. The information they provide to clients about their process, appointments, and instructions for clients lacks some clarity and is a bit confusing. This can be especially problematic for people with mental health concerns or mental disabilities. After the primary post-scan consultation with the doctor the care coordinator sent an email with all of the scan information and treatment recommendations... except a good portion of the documents were not actually included in the email. Multiple emails to the coordinator went without any response and today - months later - we are still without all of the documents that they said were attached to the email but actual weren't. Yesterday tipped the scales for me and pushed me to write this review. I called the care coordinator's office. He was out of the office so I spoke to someone else. I am a social worker and I was with my client who was also the client with Amen Clinic. I had attended my client's appointment with the Amen Clinic doctor and I had received the scan and treatment recommendations email (that was missing numerous documents) directly from the care coordinator. Regardless, the woman that I was now on the phone with refused to talk to me because of HIPAA she said. Remember, I had communicated with multiple times previously and the patient was literally with me, and she wouldn't communicate with me. I decided that was okay and that I would just forward her the email from the care coordinator that was missing the documents and she could send the missing documents directly to the patient - that way she didn't have to release any information to me. But, she refused to give me her email address, again citing HIPAA! Folks, if you don't know what HIPAA is, it's a law that applies to some medical institutions that includes, among other things, requirements to keep patient records private. It has absolutely nothing to do with the employee of the clinic not releasing her own business email address at the clinic! I literally started laughing because it was so ridiculous. Then she got her supervisor on the line who finally gave me her email address. And here is the ultimate kicker: HIPAA only applies to medical providers that transact with health insurance plans...and Amen Clinic doesn't transact with health insurance plans so Amen Clinic isn't even covered by HIPAA! All of these Amen Clinics across the nation think they are required to comply with HIPAA, they tell you they have to comply with HIPAA, they even do weird things like not give you their email address because they incorrectly think HIPAA prohibits it, but the Amen Clinics aren't actually even governed by HIPAA at all!! read more

Worse experience ever. Got scheduled an appointment and didn't know it wasn't covered in the package. They pushed drugs on me and lab work after I already told them I was struggling financially. It feels like their just after your money. No help at all. Do not recommend. I just wasted $230 dollars on an appointment that was no help at all. I'm so fucking pissed. Unbelievable this place! After giving all of our information to the intake girl, she says if our child can't sit still for 20 -25 mins to get a brain scan, then he will have to get a sedation shot. My response was, how do you give a young child with medical trauma a shot without further causing the child more stress. "Aren't there any other ways to sedate or calm the child?" The young intake girl said "No, this is the only way and this is how the center does it!" I asked if we could put our minds together to come up with some options together?? She said, "Well... you can speak to one of our psychiatrists who will cost $250 for half hour and come up with an option that way!" UNBELIEVABLE horrible UNCOMPASSIONATE place... Well since my last review was deleted I'll do it again! Walk away now!!! My wife was duped into spending thousands of dollars for this "brain scan". So yeah we did it and of course they sold us on stuff! My wife went back many times to see the "legal drug dealer". At 200 an hr. The whole time offering my wife different types of drugs, also the whole time we were telling him she has severe nausea, after yrs and help from a real doctor we found out everything given to her has a side effect of nausea.
