I just did my spect scan and was absolutely blown away by the amount of information it revealed about my brain. Dr Romanelli reviewed the spect scan with me and better helped me understand what is going on with my brain and what we can do to make improvements. I was so impressed by his observations and experience that I signed up for weekly therapy calls. Dr Meinhardt was my functional medicine doctor and went in depth with my medical history and blood work. This place is a scam. I paid $500 for the initial consultation. My daughter went to one more appointment after that. It took 5 minutes and they were done. My daughter never received the brain scans they keep bragging about. In addition my daughter was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. I informed the clinic staff and canceled all following appointments. Also, they won't give you any copies of the assessments or any visit notes. I asked for copies to give to my insurance for reimbursement. No brain imaging was ever done. Now I'm stuck with a bill of over $4000 for services she never received. Avoid this place. As we speak, I am on hold - my phone rang and it is a generic 888 number and I have to "wait" for someone. Yesterday we tried 3x. The first time I held for a long time, then a "scheduler" came to the phone, and after 2 minutes I was disconnected, no one called back. I can understand if this is a hotel chain however, my husband and I are both medical professionals and this is not proper medical protocol. I left a complaint for the woman who called me back, but not sure anyone will get back to me. read more

A clean, quiet, inviting waiting room, with gentle music in the background was what greeted me when I came out of the elevator on the 9th floor. Ariel, the main receptionist, was warm, kind and helpful. Paperwork went seamlessly. I had the whole waiting room to myself since I was the first patient of the day. And I almost didn't have to wait at all. Sue, the nurse practitioner who administered the tests on the first day, gave me a painless IV. There was none of this phoney "saccharine" sweetness nonesense from any of the staff that one can unfortunately find elsewhere. And, when the first brain (SPECT) scan was complete, because Sue knew that I sometimes get dizzy, she handed me my cane, even before I thought to need it. Sue had told me that there might be some discomfort during the scan, but I was perfectly comfortable. AND, she even told me, periodically during the scan, how many more minutes were left. So that was pretty good. Once the scan was done, reception handed me a receipt for my payment, which was good. I was able to get a cup of herbal tea from them, so that was nice. It was cool not to have to wait, definitely. Now, what really makes them stand out from the rest is that something rather embarrassing happened which was my fault, for violating one of their policies. I was aware ahead of time of the consequences. Their response was to minimize my embarrassment, even though it cost them to do so. They were under no obligation whatsoever to help me, since like everybody else they are trying to survive and thrive, especially since Covid-19. And, especially since I'm a random person off the street whom they didn't know. Still, they chose to help me anyway, and Sean, especially, and Ariel were extremely gracious about it. Hoh! That was humbling and frankly heart-melting for me. I have my second SPECT brain scan tomorrow. I'm excited. I also will do a psychological computerized test. Ultimately, when all the facts are in and the doctors make their recommendations, it is entirely up to me to go to any length to regain my optimal health. I've been working with a diagnosis of depression, anxiety and PTSD. I've suspected for a while that I might also have ADHD, as well, as evidenced in my difficulty keeping the apartment in order. I do have hope that they can help me. I have been on disability for a few decades because of these diagnoses. I've worked very hard for 42 years, with various traditional and non-traditional healing modalities and I'm finally seeing great fruit. So, I thought I'd use the suggestions from the Amen clinics as a final "one-two" punch to knock out the remaining symptoms and discomfort and to give me back my life! My goal is a lofty one I admit. I want to be restored to health completely so that I can pursue my passion of content creation, through continued writing and learning filmmaking that will help to bring people together and to benefit society at large. I have other skills that I may well be able to employ to help mentor people interested in learning so they can be economically sound and prosperous in every way. I liked the adjoining room that had a glass wall. I could see that it might be a room where healthy and hopeful things were proposed, like I saw some supplements. It's nice to see Amen clinics is not robotically cranking out prescriptions like can happen at other mental health practices. Also, I would encourage people to be early, rather than try to be on time, especially for SPECT brain scan appointments. The contrast dye is highly perishable and that dose is meant only for that particular person. The dye expires within minutes after a scheduled SPECT scan was supposed to have been completed. In addition, the chemical is so highly specialized, that it is very expensive for the clinic to buy. As such, they tell me, that if a person misses a SPECT scan, that dose of the contrast dye is wasted and is a loss financially for the clinic to the tune of several hundreds of dollars, just for that little dose. SO, show up dead if necessary, but show up early or on time. (I'm kidding about the "dead" part, but you get me.) I'm looking forward to my other appointments, of which there are many already scheduled. And, another rarity you'll find with the Amen clinics, is that a few of these appointments are scheduled for a lengthy period of time allowed. This is in contrast to the usual 15 or 20 minutes (if you're lucky) at other medical practices, where they don't really give you a chance to ponder and ask questions. Other practices are rushing off to the next patient. Amen clinics is different. I welcome you to try it! read more

Thanks to the doctors here at amén clinics I'm back on my feet after a year of depression. The Other clinic that I went to did a terrible job with my medication that did more harm than good. Thanks to doctor Grin , I am now doing better in many aspects. I'm still waiting for a full recovery so I can add the 5th star. I know in time amén clinics will help me achieve my goal. They are kind people but more than that, they saved my life and validated what I was feeling. Regular psychiatrists never got this right for over 10 years and I've just passed the one year mark from starting my journey through the Amen Clinic and their amazing recommendations and I am healthier, happier and more healed than I have ever been in my life. I was so overly and wrongly medicated when I got here and worn down from not being heard and pushed around by doctors who were guessing what was "wrong" with me. The doctor I was assigned, Dr. Lowe, blew myself and my family away when reading my scans back to us of his findings. Turns out, my head hurting didn't mean I was "crazy" rather I had a neck injury from the many car accidents I was in. I was recommended to the top doc for this specific injury, Dr. Rosa, and sure enough, I have an Atlas Orthogonal Impediment that was blocking spinal fluid flow to my brain and cutting off my brain stem which was blocking my whole body function and putting pressure on my brain. I followed what my Amen Dr told me to do over the last year and I'm SO grateful for the opportunity to be cared for by people who genuinely are top of their field, highly connected to the right specialists and most importantly they had my trust right away. Worked with the recommended trauma specialist for PTSD, Dr. Ruden, and after the first session (30 mins) I cried from relief. He's that incredible. Without ever meeting me my Amen Dr. described me down to personality traits, only I and my family would know, from reading my scans, validating me and genuinely helping me to be whole again. I have all my cognitive functioning back, physical functioning back, take no psychological medication anymore (after decades of it being thrown at me and not working), am working with a function medicine dr , Dr. Buzz Mingin, (recommended by my Amen doc) who's reconnected me to my family and most importantly to myself. I fully trust the team that was built for me here. They got it right, right away, after over a decade of doctors putting me through hell...this place and these people, who really care, saved my life and I'm grateful. read more

I was really turned off by this practice. I paid $400 for an initial consult and I honestly felt as though the doctor thought he was doing me a favor. More so, I had already had scans done somewhere else (covered) and the doctor refused to even look at them because it is against their policy. However they were happy to rescan me. Would give it no stars if I could. Thought this clinic was a scam from the start but my parents made me do it anyway. Sure the report analysis is cool but half of it is your work from all the questionnaires you answered. A definite waste of money!! Also Of Course your body and brain do better with diet and exercise, I didn't need to spend $4,000 just to learn that!! They also accidentally injected the dosage into the soft tissue of my arm which hurt a lot and made the first scan invalid. Always a long wait in the waiting room and they played those horrible self help videos. Just a nightmare experience all around. MY DOG GETS BETTER TREATMENT AT THE VET. For that, and other reasons, I'm truly disgusted with this business. In all fairness, I did find the $4,000 brain scan and analysis to be quite interesting. (RED FLAG: They were having a pricing "special" at the time.) Dr. T. seemed bright... and even genuine at first. But, over the course of several months and hundreds of dollars, he completely violated my trust. The lack of concern and care during a one-time emergency that occurred more than a year into treatment was shocking. Not to mention- this BUSINESS is: insufficient and careless staff, a nagging promotion of the clinic and its products, excruciatingly long wait times, exorbitant costs, DEPLORABLE bedside manner, lack of privacy, deception, absent of any integrity... I learned quite a bit about my brain and conditions that were affecting my chronic fatigue. i like that they took a holistic approach and did not just aim to treat symptoms.They suggested I get a sleep apnea test (which required me to see a doctor outside of their practice). and gave me several supplements. Dr Sood also helped me get off an anti depressant that was contributing to my tiredness. He also prescribed meditation, daily exercise and yoga. It has changed my life. I have lost weight and now exercise everyday. i now have the energy to cook so I am eating healthier food that further supports more energy. It is a process not an overnight fix, but I have made much progress and feel substantially better for it. i tell everyone Dr Sood changed my life! The only reason i did not give 5 stars is because of cost. It is substantial enough that I almost did not make an appointment. read more

After having read Dr. Amen's book "Change Your Brain Change Your Life", we traveled to the New York Amen Clinic to have our son evaluated. There were no surprises in our visit. We had been well prepared by the clinic ahead of time. We had to go for two half days. I felt like they got a very good idea of the problems we came there for. The staff was wonderful. They were compassionate, kind, and eager to educate and empower us as parents. The scan results were really interesting and better defined the specific parts of our son's brain that were not functioning correctly. We had a meeting with Dr. Sood, one of the psychiatrists. He was kind, competent, and was able to explain things clearly to us and to our child. Our care plan is comprehensive with many new paths that we can explore in order to get our son well. Our time there was well worth the trip and the investment. We left feeling optimistic and hopeful. We highly recommend the Amen Clinic when you or a loved one has stopped responding positively to traditional conventional medicine and when you are looking for wellness over maintenance in regards to your overall health and quality of life. read more

I have read the attached negative comments with great interest and surprise, because my experience with the Amen Clinic was significantly different. Prior to calling the California clinic, I heard a lecture by Dr. Amen and had also read his book Healing ADD. When I made the call, I was impressed with the time spent listening to me and the degree of information and patient understanding offered by Suzy Sullivan. I did not immediately arrange an appointment. I was sent a comprehensive package of information which I read and forwarded to my daughter. Both my daughter and grandson are challenged with ADD/ADHD. Both have been on medications prescribed by other practioners for many years. I work in the medical profession as does my daughter who is employed as a Nurse Practioner. With some degree of effort on the schedulers part, we were able to have concurrent appointments for the three days of examination and brain studies. A dual degreed pediatric /adult psychiatrist was available to evaluate both my grandson and daughter. I felt a single specialist would be more effective in assessing the family dynamics in the context of the brain studies. The psychiatrist spent many hours educating us, clarifying and explaining the tests and the results of the brain studies. He was informed, experienced, gentle and patient. My daughter, who is familiar with medications was able to have a professional discussion with the psychiatrist. As for the office staff, I observed their competence, the comprehensive, patient and informative explanations provided to all of the clients during our clinic visit. There were a variety of individuals, ages and genders, from various countries, with different histories and reasons for being there. There was no evidence of dissatisfaction or complaint with the service during our visit. I feel that there were no promised instant solutions nor was I led to believe there would be. There are specific recommendations which differ which each client. I had a lengthy discussion with a father from Peru who brought his 5 year old son. His recommendations were very different from what we received. The follow up appointments with both the Historian as well as the psychiatrist provide good continuity as well as an opportunity for questions. This is also part of the cost of the program. This clinic offers new and varied options for walking the path of ADD/ADHD. It does not promise a cure. read more

I brought my daughter to The Amen Clinic in NYC for anxiety and depression. She had seen many different Drs in Texas and was always given more prescriptions that did not work. Dr. Sood got to the root of her problem and found out that she has Lyme disease and Mold. He was very caring and helped her in any way he could. Dr. Sood's assistant Jo Ann made the whole process so much easier for us. She answered all the many questions I had before and after going to the clinic. This place gave me no answers, instead, they recommended medications for my child that is not approved by the FDA for children. After spending thousands of dollars, I got another bill in the mail for 4,000!!!!!!!!! Do not waste your money! Nothing came out of it for my son. I paid about 4100 dollars and for their fee plus accommodation for three nights and sent my son to NY with NO USE. They even did not review the filled forms carefully. At the end they provided us a very nice looking binder with lots of documents all printed in color on nice sheets. I was so happy receiving it, thought it was ALL about my son. I looked at it the night my son arrived till 4 in the morning and noticed that only less than 10 pages were a report on my son's diagnosis and treatment (if you can name it this way) and the rest were the articles and stuff which are available on-line for free. The whole procedure which took three days, my son said could be done in less than a work day. They just sold us 240 dollars of dietary supplements which we could buy at Whole Foods or on-line for less than half of that price. I am so frustrated. None of my phone calls and emails were ever returned. I have to pay my credit loan for all this "nothing" for a whole year. It was a huge waste of time, energy and of course money. read more

This place is great! The technology from Dr. Amen is cutting edge. I read a few of the 1 star reviews here & if you go to this place expecting "conventional" treatment, then don't go. If you hear Dr Amen's lectures you know that he's not into pushing drugs. I'd rather pay for a vitamin than take drugs that makes the problem! Dr. Sood is soothing & helpful. I did NOT feel rushed. yes, they sell supplements- you don't have to buy them but if you feel that they'll help your brain, it's an investment, not an expense. My only peeve was the length of the questionnaire's BEFORE going there & then more once there. if you plan it out, it will work out. I just went back for my 1 year follow up & I see the progress! I agree it's too bad that they don't take insurance BUT THEY TELL YOU MULTIPLE TIMES IN ADVANCE. I opted for Care Credit. I have an 8yo daughter & would feel comfortable with her there. Don't go to a regular MD to compare because natural medicine ruins their pharmaceutical-based profit center. Of course they'll tell you that it's no good lol. Pretty much an overpriced, inconvenient waste of money. It involves a 3 day commitment to testing. Once you get over the excitement of seeing your brain in action, you get the feeling you have exited "through the gift shop". You are given a report that you have pretty much constructed with your lengthy intake questionnaires. Peppered in there are suggestions to diet and exercise because studies have shown it makes people's brains work better. Additionally, you can be prescribed costly Amen Clinic supplements. What I am most surprised about is how things fall apart from there. Despite the heftily priced aftercare phone consults ($200 per half hour) and their incessant telemarketer-style satisfaction survey calls- THEY DROP THE BALL! Emails will be lost, the front desk people neglect to pass along phone messages and you will be forgotten. If you are having a crisis, like you are going to run out of your prescription, you may have to wait until you are panic stricken and down to your last pill before you get a response. It is very scary when the patient they are dealing with IS YOUR CHILD. Save your money and seek assistance elsewhere. Like a gift shop, they get you while you are hyped up and you leave feeling duped. read more

If you go to the amen clinic with the purpose of getting a brain scan and going over the results with the doctor/psychiatrist its ok, but take it to another doctor/psychiatrist for a second opinion. The doctor/psychiatrist job is to sell medication/vitamin and keep you there for as long as possible. They don't except insurance "red flag" also want to push loads and loads of vitamins and medication. Be very careful be aware! read more

All the staff members are delightful, the facility is pristine, and the program is all encompassing. Dr. Lowe is very patient, very thorough, compassionate, and genuine.
