6 years later, and this man still haunts me. I'm very sad to come on here and find that he's still practicing and breathing. To those writing good reviews, we know the truth. That you're happy to find a doctor that will prescribe you whatever controlled substance you want at whatever dose that will get you h*gh. But listen, it's all fun and games now but I promise the day will come when the addiction takes a turn, impacts your social/work life and everything falls apart. I know, because it's happened to me. I was a few years out of college, going through a lot of life changes and having a pretty tough time. I made the sound decision to seek help and DR. Shershow is where I ended up. He was in close proximity to my office and I figured I would give therapy/prescription​ drugs a shot. I showed up on time and did not have to wait long to see him. However, ​I instantly got a weird feeling about him when instead of leading the way to his office he let me go first and then was very condescending​​ when I​ did not know what door to go to and how to open it. In the ​session, he basically told me what I was going through was life and to pretty much "get over it". As this was our first session, I was not expecting him to necessarily​ "get" my issues right off but he did not seem interested in anything I had to say and acted as if I was wasting his time. I understand he is not a therapist​ but to accurately​ figure out what drugs I​ should be on, wouldn't you want to listen to why I​ would need them? Then he tried to almost con me into paying for the session out of pocket instead of charging me my copay fee. This guy is the WORST. I do not recommend seeking care with Dr. Shershow. I attended 5 sessions with him, and with each he made pay out of pocket. I tried working with his office staff and my insurance to resolve the payments. Each time I spoke with his staff the problem was always mine to deal with. When I asked if they could cooperate with me, I was met with a rude and nasty attitude. After asking if I could be addressed more kindly, I received a call from Dr. Shershow saying that I would no longer be under his care, and that 'I was totally out of line' with the way I spoke to my staff. He said he would not be accepting any of my calls, and If I wanted to find a way to resolve these payments I would have to send letters. Overall, my experience with this doctor has been nothing short of terrible. I would 100% look for another psychiatrist in NYC. The reviewers are NOT being sensitive, Jon Shershow is a total joke. This is my first time ever leaving a negative review. After two appointments, you can sure bet I'll never be coming back here again. I wish I looked up the reviews before booking an appointment with Jon, however like most people, I was desperate for care. I was excited to meet with Jon & excited to get help. My first appointment, I was confused about how the telehealth service worked as I had never used it before. Could not have been more than three minutes late. Before I could even introduce myself, I was berated for my lateness. Sir, you work with adults who have ADHD, I think you can be a little patient. I literally thought he was joking. Ok, whatever... he pushes me my pills and is off. I figured it would be a cold experience at he is a psychiatrist, but wow - I literally just told this man all of my trauma and now he's booting me out & making me pay him. Weird vibe certainly, but nonetheless I schedule my next appointment (I do want to mention he did forget to send out my script, and needed me to call & ask about it). The next appointment rolls around - I wanted to avoid being scolded by my own doctor (a totally common fear for a patient to be having - duh), however, I had another psych appointment that was running late. I was on public transportation at the time of our meeting, but I joined anyway. By the way, he was 3 minutes late. Once he saw I was on the bus he hung up on me. I tried joining again thinking it was a connection issue, but the same thing. He kept shaking his head no and gave me a dirty face. He was acting like a child. I rushed home because I needed this appointment & did not want to be charged with a no-show fee. My appointment was at 1:30, I joined at 1:40 in my apartment as normal. Jon was extremely passive-aggressive & just flat-out rude. I have never experienced this with a doctor. "Of course, you'll be charged with a no-show fee. Maybe next time pick a time where you know you can show up." Did I not just explain my appointment ran 45 minutes late? Was I not 3 minutes before you? I get it if you have to reschedule me because I was late, psychs like squeezing in as much as they can in their schedule - but to charge me a no-show fee even though I did show up? I made 3 attempts to join and was literally hung up on every time. Yes, he'll give you your Adderall (at a lower dosage, mind you), but he's a big baby in a doctor's coat with a prescription pad. It says on his website that Jon cares deeply about his patients. By deeply, he means he cares about how deep their pockets go. I would never recommend this doctor. He tries to fit as many patients as he can into one day and has no idea who each of his patients are. He will berate you if you are 5 minutes late to your appointment (even though your appointment will last less than 5 minutes, so it clearly doesn't matter). I made an appointment, I went to said appointment, Dr. Shershow discussed options for managing my ADHD then gave me a two-week script to give a shot, sent me home to return in 2 weeks to discuss the outcome. Easy as pie and exactly what I was looking for. He was friendly, straight forward, and very helpful (I came with a list of questions which he gladly answered and explained each one) He did ask me if my insurance covered specialists or if I had any past problems with it but when I told him I checked it through ZocDoc and didn't have any issues and have recently seen quite a few specialists he was cool with it. I did not get a drug pusher vibe from him at all, especially since he said he likes to work on one thing at a time as sometimes these problems can be solved together. I think most of these reviewers were looking for a psychologist or a counselor not a psychiatrist. If you watch his ZocDoc video he's pretty straight forward about his services and mentions that he works a lot with your counselor for your script needs. You got problems you wanna talk about? The bad Yelp reviews almost scared me out of coming in, but I really liked Dr. Shershow. He had a quiet, clean office and I was seen right away. I already had a diagnosis and went to the appointment purely for a medication consultation, which is exactly what I got. Dr Shershow explained all of the options available to me as well as their historic uses and pros and cons of each. He gave me a recommendation but allowed me to choose what I felt was best. He asked thoughtful questions about my background and I felt as though he tried to get to know me and make me feel more comfortable. We were able to make a follow-up appointment right then and there with plenty of time before my prescription ran out. It seems that most of the bad reviews are due to people who either were late or forgot to make an appointment in time to refill their prescription. I've been seeing Dr. Shershow for a couple of years now, as I needed a new psychopharmacologist to fill my prescriptions after moving to NYC. He is professional, efficient, and knowledgeable.What a lot of people who are writing these reviews seem to forget is that there is a VAST distinction between a psychiatrist and a psychopharmacologist. It's literally his job to diagnose mental issues and prescribe treatment medications for you, not to listen to you talk about your dead dog and how it reminds you of the time your mother walked in on you watching Cinemax at 2 AM. This doctor experience was a nightmare. I had called 20 minutes before my appointment to let them know I was running late due to a train delay. The operator said this should be fine and to come over. I get there, mind you 5 minutes late and he refuses to see me after waiting for 5 minutes. It was a terrible experience considering the reason I was late was out of my control. This doctor just wants to make money. I asked for a refill on one of my prescriptions because I was looking for a doctor here. He wanted to charge me $25 plus $150, which isn't covered by insurance. My insurance company advised that I ask my psychiatrist for a "bridge" refill while I find a new doctor because I moved, and he still wanted to charge me. Then he asked me how much I was taking, and I was taking 1/2 the daily recommended dose, which lasted 2 months, and he accused me of being addicted. The following appointments were 4-5 minutes long, in which he never inquired as to what was going on in my life, or how I was doing emotionally. I love Dr Shershow. I lost him due to an insurance change a few years ago but I've been working on finding an insurance he accepts because every other Doctor is a nightmare compared. I think he gets bad reviews from people who don't know what they want. He is a pharmopsychologist. His job is to prescribe drugs for your ailing brain, not listen to your problems. He's not a therapist. I did my research, I figured out what I needed and I told him. He listened to me, worked with me on suggestions (I started with lexapro and when it didn't work, we switched to Prozac to wonderful results), and didn't grill me or guilt me. Straight forward and friendly, he always said hello and remembered what I did for a living even if we hadn't seen each other for a few months. The only hitch I could conceive was you have to book your appointment a month in advance and that was never an issue for me. Love Shershow. Highly recommend to anyone who knows what they need. The overwhelmingly bad reviews speak for themselves. Bedside manner is impersonal and abysmal at best. He is a pharmacologist NOT a therapist, so it's not his business to provide counseling. However, even if you are simply looking for a pill mill, this doctor has gotten my prescriptions wrong and ignored my calls/emails to rectify this. The only way to reach him is when you have an appointment and are sitting right in front of him. He has a strict cancellation policy (2 business days) but this clashes with his office managers who don't return all your calls. I've also shown up for a confirmed appointment only to be turned away at the front door because my appointment was in fact booked for the next week. Overall an atrocious practice. My experience comports with the others. He'll give you the medicine you ask for, but if you are 2 minutes late you'll get a lecture, and if 5 minutes late, he won't see you. No prescriptions over the phone, even if he has no appointments available before you run out of your last prescription. Don't expect talk therapy -- Dr. Shershow is for drugs only. If that's what you need and you're certain you'll never be late, go for it. If you're looking for more compassionate care rather than merely a signature on a pad, this is probably not the doctor you want. read more

Dr. Shershow was very warm and professional. If you need someone to talk to about all your issues--that is what a therapist is for. From what I can tell he focuses mainly on medication based treatment plans. He is very knowledgeable and well educated and told me things about the medication I have been taking for over 6 months that I never knew before. He definitely is quick in and out as long as you show up on time. The office is clean and comfortable. Overall I had a very positive experience at Dr. Shershow's office and would recommend him to anyone who is interested in treating a condition with prescription drugs. read more

Can I give negative stars? I've never rated anything on yelp but this time I feel I have to. I was going to Dr.Shershow for over a year...every session was 10 minutes tops. I almost didnt mind because I just needed a script which a primary care physician cannot prescribe. At one point my insurance changed. I gave my new insurance to his office and 5 months later he informed me that I had an outstanding bill because my insurance was not covering anything. I had even paid all of my copays up to date. He then told me I needed to pay the whole 5 month balance before making any new appointments. Why wouldn't you tell me after 1 month that insurance was not covering it? You tell me after 5 months? Are you crazy? The bill was massive! I then talked to the accountant whom was still billing my old insurance so she resubmitted and everything would be cleared up. Downside was it was going to take a few weeks, meanwhile I needed new meds because mine were almost gone. When I discussed this with him he pretty much told me he deals with the patients and that insurance has nothing to do with him and wouldn't own up to his offices mistake of submitting to the wrong insurance. He wouldn't give me another appointment until it went through. I asked him that as a professional in the medical business if he thinks it is safe for a person to be going off of these meds at the snap of their fingers and he just laughed and said no but it's not my problem until you pay up. I'd use some powerful curse words on here but i'd prefer this not be taken down...he's a loon. Dr. Shershow was very nice during my first meeting! You should be seeing another therapist for your usual talk sessions but he is the right person to talk to if you need medication or have reached that point. The Yelp reviews were over dramatic. I was 10 minutes late to my first appointment, the woman on the phone told me to come 15 minutes early and I didn't and he gave me a grace period and said I will be fine for future appointments as long as I'm no later than 5-10 minutes. I think he was great! Disappointed in the other reviews here. I honestly think people are too fragile. I came 5 min early and he saw me right on time. I told him my problems and he expressed his concern and the options he thought are best for me. He didn't bully me or belittle me at all. And the visit was not 5min like everyone says. In fact he warned me of his policies. He said later visits may be 5min sometimes if it's just for prescription. Makes sense to me.... Also, a lot of people on here complain about him turning them away after being a little late. He was quite clear and told me if i was late I would have to wait a very long time. Patients that come on time get first priority. Which totally makes sense! Basically, if you're late you have to wait for someone else to be late to make the difference. I have been seeing a psychiatrist since I was 8 years old, and I have never had such unpleasant experiences with a psychiatrist as I have had with Dr. Shershow. I am transgender, and he refuses to call me by my preferred name. He calls me by my birth name every time that I see him, even though I have explained to him that I would like to be called something else. He is extremely bigoted and I get triggered every single time that I go see him. I would not tell anyone in the LGBT community to see him. I am also a teacher who is busy every single day from 8-4, so I can only see him on days when the kids have no school. However, he refuses to give me enough refills to last the several months until I am able to see him again so I have run out of medication several times. Last time this happened he refused to call in some emergency meds and threatened some pretty nasty withdrawal symptoms if I don't make time to see him. I will not be seeing him again and I highly recommend that other people seek help elsewhere. read more

The professionalism and customer service by the entire office including Dr. Shershow need real attention. I have been to several appointments which have included times when I was early, on time, and 30 seconds-a couple minutes late, and almost every time I was made to feel like I was horribly late and a problem/inconvenience. I do not feel that this is the best way to treat patients, especially ones that are seeking attention for psychological issues. Furthermore I realized once that I was going to be 5+ minutes late as the Subway was delayed and called the office to see if I could wait and/or reschedule given appointments are only 10 minutes, but ultimately was charged a $75 "no-show" fee. I asked if this could be waived as a one time courtesy and the office employee informed me that I would need to speak to Shershow about this - a conversation that would not be particularly pleasant given the doctor's attitude towards his patients. I grudgingly accepted the fee and rescheduled, however a similar occasion months later caused me to discontinue appointments here. I am giving this charlatan a star only because I have to select one. This is the most immoral doctor I've bumped into in my life. This doctor is only interested in money and certainly does not give a damn about his patients. I saw him once for 15 minutes and have a bill that amounts to a total of $400. This is a drug pusher, interested in medicating only, and rushes patients out of his office while charging them for a full session. I made a follow up appointment with this Doctor and called in to change the date within 23 hours of the appointment date. I was informed that I had failed to call within the 24 hour window and was charged $155 for a missed appointment (which I foolishly immediately paid). I informed his office I would not be able to come in for another week and that I needed my prescription refilled since I was running out. I was informed that I needed to pay for an additional full appointment before getting a refill (in other words an additional refill fee). This is what I call a drug dealer. Never-mind that he was placing a patient's health at risk by not refilling an anti-depression medication without a hefty charge. It isn't that he was interested in seeing me in person to see how I was doing with the medication. It was just about getting money. His office even informed me I could pick up the prescription without seeing him as I paid $155. Stay far far away. read more

Every visit is quick which is a plus... BUT... it's a conversation that goes like this "how much do you need?"... He's a legalized drug dealer. Also, if you call up the day of because you are sick and unable to get out of bed, then he'll still charge you a fee, which is ridiculous. On top of that, when you call for him to call you back he either WON'T or his assistant's (because a different person answers the phone every time) will tell you to hold for 15 minutes and then tell you that he hasn't responded to the request. If you're addicted to drugs like Adderall and vyvanse and different uppers, then go to him. You'll get a prescription in 15 minutes. This review is solely based on my booking experience. I booked my appt on a Saturday. The day before I had a family emergency I had to attend to so I cancelled the appt that Friday. In my mind that is 24 hours notice. Now the Dr. won't see me bc it wasn't exactly 24 hrs before I cancelled. The office wants me to pay for my cancelled visit which was cancelled the day before. Agree with practically everyone else on how terrible this Doctor is. I booked an appointment with him through ZocDoc app, and due to train delays was running a little late. I let the receptionist know (who was the rudest receptionist I've ever encountered) and even though I was outside of the building he refused to let me reschedule with him, and told me I'd have to do it through the app again. I thought it was ridiculous given I was right outside the office (and he knew this), I asked if there was ANYTHING else I needed to do or know before I rescheduled and he answered "no". So after dealing with that, I thought maybe the receptionist just sucks at being a receptionist, I gave the doc another shot and rescheduled. The appointment was confirmed and I thought it was a done deal. I Hop on the train back to BK and once I get off I receive an email saying it was canceled by the doctor. Confused I call the receptionist again, and ask why it was canceled, and he tells me that if Id want to see the doctor I'd have to pay $150 for not showing up. (Though I was outside the office, and he refused to let me reschedule in person). Livid at this point: 1. At the receptionist for being rude, and not informing me after I asked. 2. The doctor for actually thinking that paying $150 for being late due to train delays is OK. After expressing how upset I was, instead of handling it like a professional the receptionist decides to hang up on me! So much for customer service. STAY AWAY. Worst experience ever. read more

He did not make me wait long, but then again I did get an early morning appointment. I was in and out. He listened to my problems and research that I had done about my problem. At first I thought Dr. Shershow was very nice but once I lost my job, he started to be become an insensitive, money hungry jerk. Once I found a new job I decided to give up Cobra. Since I no longer had insurance I decided to call Dr. Shershow so he could refill a prescription. He said he would give me the prescription but he could no longer treat me over the phone because he ran a "private practice" in COLUMBUS CIRCLE! I asked him approximately once to refill a prescription over the phone and he gave me a hard time and told me that I needed to make other arrangements for a different doctor because I couldn't pay his $100 fee. At another point, when I found another job, my employer asked me to get a letter from Dr. Shershow stating my diagnosis and medication. Even though I literally had an appointment with him the week before where he refilled my prescriptions, he told me that he wasn't "comfortable" writing a letter for me without me being in his office while he writes it. Are you serious? So, what you're basically saying is that you'd rather charge my insurance again even though I saw you last week? Also, when I told him I lost my job, I was in tears and very upset, he just smiled, said "good luck" and basically kicked me out after literally five minutes. He turned out to be a such a jerk. Before this, I had always made my appointments, and I'd been seeing him for quite some time. When I tried to talk to him about it, it seemed like it was all he could do not to spit on me. I would have laughed if I hadn't been so shocked: the "professional" in front of me turned into cartoon character with dollar signs in his eyes. Dr. Shershow basically tried to steal my money. Beyond that, he was also a drug-pusher who didn't bother to take the time to understand my issues. He charged my credit card $250.00 because "he was worried about my insurance". First of all, there's no world where I'd owe that much because insurance negotiates agreed on charges in-network. Secondly, it's fraudulent to charge that much before even submitting a claim and seeing what insurance does and doesn't cover. On his advice itself, he wanted to put me on drugs after talking to me for about 15 minutes. His philosophy appears to be, 'try lots of medication and see what works'. This is backwards and terrible. I saw him several times before realizing what was going on- he's a quack that is concerned with money only, as several of these patients indicate. Also, he lacks intelligence. He really is concerned with money over the well-being of his patients. It's always sad to encounter a doctor that got into the field for that rather than for the sake of helping people. He literally remembers nothing about the patient and you literally walk in, exchange a few words and he sends you on your way, taking your copay and insurance money gladly. Some people may be drawn to him purely due to the indications that he is a pill pusher- but he pushes the wrong sorts of medication that can be very dangerous, considering these pills can seriously mess with your both mental and physical well-being if not administered considering what any qualified psychiatrist would- he does not ask any questions and sends you on your way as he continues on his merry way to the bank with your insurance $$. Also, to shed even more light on his idiocy and incompentency, he refuses to give patients emergency scrips, even when they have an appointment scheduled and need more before the next appointment. Given that he literally asks nothing when you come to the appointment and it's an in-and-out get the scrip, this indicates that he just wants you to come in for an appointment to get the proscription simply to receive the money. Once I asked him about weening off of the SSRI inhibitor I was taking for anxiety (my old psych always stressed that it should be a temporary thing and I should eventually ween off of it- which I did successfully before moving and having to switch to Shershow) and Shershow commented that he thinks I should stay on the medication forever and that there is no reason to go off of it. He really is just concerned with his bottom line- if I ween off of the medication there is no reason to continue to see him and funnel my insurance money his way. Also, I suspect he gets kickbacks from certain drug companies because he really pushed a certain more expensive SSRI inhibitor despite my stating that I was fine to use what I used prior again. This doctor is utterly disgusting. HIGHLY SUGGEST TO NEVER BOOK AN APPOINTMENT WITH THIS "DOCTOR." I have never had a worst experience with a doctor. He has no compassion. I have seen multiple psychiatrists and I have never ever meant anyone who treats prospective patients any horribly. I was late to my first appointment with him due to very unforseen circumstances and we still had some time on the clock. Even when I was late, I kept trying to call the office and he wouldn't even pick up the phone. Had he picked up the phone and told me kindly that he won't be able to see me anymore that would be much better. Instead, when I got there 10/15 minutes late he wouldn't even sit down with me to even talk or help me in any capacity. I was clearly very anxious and going through a lot of stuff. He literally kept holding the door and told me that I needed to leave b/c we didn't have enough set time despite how clearly upset he was starting to make me. He is truly THE WORST. Like the other reviews here Dr. Shershow claimed my insurance company was not paying him and I would pay himself. He said he had an excellent biller and that it was my fault the insurance would not pay. His BILLER who lives in another state was so dumb she was billing the wrong insurance and I fixed the problem in five minutes of talking to her. Then, He tried to charge me for an appt he claimed I made on zocdoc that I missed. He wanted to charge me 100 dollars just to see him again. THIS DOCTOR is a FRAUD and just wants your money. Zocdoc had no record of such appointment. Furthermore, he has no idea about the medications he is prescribing. He claimed he had never heard that certain medications can make you fat and therefore cause diabetes!!! I am reporting him to the medical board. read more
