Amelia Earhart, record setting aviator.
Or "The Babe in the Sky" if you're nasty.
Yes, that was a Janet "Ms." Jackson reference.
We all know and love Amelia Earhart. She was a pioneering American aviator who redefined boundaries for women. She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic (1932) and founded The Ninety-Nines. She vanished over the Pacific in 1937 attempting an equatorial world flight.
On January 11, 1935, Amelia Earhart became the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean, departing from Wheeler Field in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California. She piloted her Lockheed Vega 5C for over 18 hours, overcoming fears of the flight's danger and proving solo long-distance travel across the Pacific was possible.
Located at Diamond Head Lookout, this right here is the plaque. Reading, "Amelia Earhart First person to fly alone from Hawaii to North America. Dated January 11, 1935."
