So I didn't actually try the sandwiches, just a caffeé shakerato (coffee shaken with ice kinda like they would do a shaken martini) and it was foamy, creamy and delicious. I also had their fresh pressed juice- equally foamy & delicious. The best part of this little bistro/caffee/sandwich shop is it is hidden in a little piazza half a block from the Arno river & the crazy tourist lined street, but no tourists seem to venture here. There is a small courtyard with a large white cantilevered umbrella offering some shade and quaint mismatchy chairs and wooden benches around tiny metal bistro tables. The baristas are friendly and you can sit for a spell just listening to everyone else conversing in Italian, knowing the cheesy touristy places are 50 m away and you're savoring a place frequented by locals! :) The decor inside is quaint & quirky, with a wall of fruits and veggies stored bottega style for the freshest pressed juice! Came here for lunch one afternoon. The place was not overly crowded, but service was sub-optimally slow. I ordered the veggie burger which was served on toast. The burger was kind of mushy and Bland. Cannot recommend this. Fries came with homemade ketchup which was interesting. The ice coffee was blah. Chocolate chip cookie was also not all that great. Wow! This little lovely spot behind our hotel was an amazing find! We had an appetiser of hummus, veggies and nuts along with some toast crisps and then we shared the most delectable Caesar salad with chicken that melted in our mouth because it is cooked sous vide. And an elegant (crust less) just right toasted tuna sandwich on a light white bread, with olive oil and some fresh tomatoes with a touch of mayo. Exquisite! Amble is somewhere I go pretty often, a beautiful little hipster bar in an inner courtyard a stone's throw to the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. Originally known as the place that serves 'tramezzini' or little sandwiches or finger food, along with brunch items, fresh fruit juices, cocktails and coffee. The strong point is that the place is very very cute, you feel like you are nestled into the scenery and literally everything in the cafe is for sale, from the chairs, the tables to the cigarette stands. It's like one big swap-meet but with really good drinks. They get extra points from me because they make an awesome moscow mule (generous too) and a carrot spritz which almost makes drinking 'healthy.' Amble's motto is, quite simply, 'good food and old furniture.' I can vouch for that. - I really, really dug Amble's retro shabby chic decor. It was such a nice surprise to see the vintage furniture dotted around outside and it set the tone perfectly. We were looking for Amble, and catching sight of it, we just knew we'd found it. Amble feels like a secret as it's really quite hidden away. It's so worth seeking out and very much feels like a haunt that's a favourite with locals. Our waiter was super duper charming, welcoming us warmly and giving us a great tip on what to order. - We took his advice of ordering the sandwich of the day along with the dish of the day to share and we weren't disappointed. Everything was five-star levels of tasty and, it was refreshing to try somewhere in Italy that wasn't serving up traditional Italian food and offering something a little different. The sandwich of the day was an interesting ham crustless concoction and the dish of the day was a comforting and meaty dish with delicious veggies and fried potato. All delicious and generous in portion size. But, guys, get THIS. See those crusts that had been ruthlessly chopped from the bread for the sandwich? They'd been grilled and seasoned and served up as some kind of glorious crust fries. This really made us smile, and was a nice little addition which made Amble all the more sweet. They were delightfully crispy and seasoned to perfection. - How ingenious to make fries of crusts! The Italian sunshine called for an Amble Spritz; the cafe's signature cocktail. Mmm, mmm, mmm. - I do recommend if you've an afternoon aperitif on your mind. Amble made for such a memorable off-the-beaten track spot for lunch with delicious food and warm, charming service. Amblè is ne of those places where much work has gone in concocting the format and the concept of the restaurant/bar. The result is a very pleasant atmosphere, relaxed and easy going where you make your sandwiches and collect the orders at the bar, sampling some of the interesting drinks that are created here. You can buy pieces of furniture and order a carrot juice. There are plenty of seats outside and the small piazza where the bar is set makes everything very "familiar" and cozy. I am a BIG fan of this bistro / coffee bar! I started coming here last summer where I would sit outdoors in one of their lawn chairs. Lunch was really great and not too expensive. I had a salad with chickpeas and mushrooms, everything was so delicious. This is a great place for vegetarians/vegans as they will fit right in here and find lots of yummy lunch options. Best of all is their furniture / dining sets ... the food and drink is all served in vintage pieces and it's all for sale. So if you are eating on a nice plate or using a cool fork that you really like, you can buy it! Actually I bought a spoon from them, the one they served my cappuccino with ... a super cute vintage spoon with the danish flag on it. Often times I come in the morning or evening for a coffee or tea and sit indoors while using their FREE wifi. Although there is little natural light in the indoor seating area you are not in the dark as there are a bunch of vintage lamps and letter lights ; ) and I must try one of their brownies soon, the smell is intoxicating .... in a good way ! Lovely cafe with humorously crazy owners! Unfortunately I had already eaten lunch and was only looking for a drink. They have a variety of healthy offerings both alcoholic and non, and I got a lemonade made from fresh lemon juice from their centrifuge with bubbling water. You are able to adjust the sugar as well! I asked for a little sugar and it was refreshingly tart and slightly bitter. The only downside is it was 3 euros.. Perfect casual spot tucked away close to Ponte Vecchio for a drink and food outside in comfortable chairs (seemed to have seating inside too). We enjoyed our drinks and simple but delicious sandwich while our 3yo approved of the food and service. Table service but you order against a card/table number, which I'm guessing makes it very easy if you want to pay and go, which at times in Italy requires a lot of patience. I'd discovered Amblè a few months ago and just before Christmas I actually managed to try it out with a friend, which ended up in us falling in love with the place, the staff and the food. First of all, the location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Florence and a few meters from Ponte Vecchio; as everyone before me has written, the furniture is all for sale -including the items in the toilet!- and the day I'll decorate my own place, I'll definitely get something from here. This café has a vintage-hipster-happy vibe and you can either sit inside on the comfy armchairs or outside on nice-looking old chairs; If it's not raining I'll always sit outside, I can smoke and enjoy the quiet, drinking a delicious cappuccino served in a vintage cup and a slice of whatever they're offering that day. The sandwiches are also good, not very big though, and I still have to try their drinks, but I saw something that looked like a Hugo (which I've only been able to find in Vienna so far) and I can't wait to try them!
