Amber reminded me of the film Jurassic Park. In the film, there was a mosquito in the amber. Apparently the mosquito had dinosaur DNA.
Not to worry, I was not looking to create dinosaurs!
Amber is unique because it is actually a resin, not a hard crystal. Amber had been used for healing, protection and good luck since the ancient times.
I went to Astrology in Covent Garden but they ran out of amber. The shop owner kindly recommended that I go to Amber Centre in St Christopher's Place as they will not run out of amber!
I could not remember the last time I was at St Christopher's Place. I had to look out for the purple clock to show me the way. It felt like Diagon Alley from Harry Potter.
The staff was very welcoming when I entered the shop. Unfortunately my phone battery went dead therefore I did not get to take photos of the shop and the jewellery.
I told the sales assistant what I was looking for; the type of ring, the size and the price range. She went inside and took a tray of rings for me to select. Wow! I was so happy because I did not need to spend time browsing the whole shop.
She also explained why some amber look slightly green or black. This is due to the colour painted behind the amber and how it is reflected which changes the colour of the amber that we see. Colour trick!
Always bear in mind that the colours we see may not always be the same as the colours someone else sees. What colour is the dress???
The ring and earrings were made of 925 sterling silver which accentuate the colour of the amber.
Amber Centre is truly a hidden gem. read more
