But happily Robie's Flowers has managed to carve out a little customer base without treading on too many daffodils. It is a 'bespoke' florist and you can see the difference as soon as you walk in - they sell a lot of exotic flowers, orchids, things like that. Up to as many as 50 different types of flowers, most imported from Holland this is where to go for something a bit different. The shop itself, never mind the beautiful flowers that provide handy decoration, is sophisticated in its own way despite the traditional tudor style black and white exterior. I for one think it a good thing that owner Robie Flood stole his gem of a florists away from Middleton and brought it to (more enlightened?) Prestwich.

Lovely selection of flowers and low prices, and arrangements in store which were stunning. The business was recommended to me as a wedding florist by several of my friends, and they didn't disappoint, Pauline & Andrea were amazing throughout!! I booked a wedding consultation initially with Pauline for my wedding flowers and to share some ideas, she made me feel so relaxed and definately took the stress out of the process, offering fantastic and well informed expert advice. I never once felt pressured, sadly the same could not be said for some of the other florists with whom I had consulted with. After finally agreeing on my flowers and various things, I was kept in touch with throughout the process which certainly helped ease the nerves and worry. The 'big day' arrived and my flowers were presented to me at the hotel and as promised, the venue was fully dressed - I never once had any concerns, and the flowers just were simply stunning so much so it brought me to tears; the fact I had so many comments about them during the day confirmed that I had made the right decision in going to Bromborough Flowers. The biggest surprise (or maybe it wasnt given what I had been told by friends who have been here before), was simply the price... I had to ask Pauline to recheck a couple of times as it was massively cheaper than the other florists who quoted me in the area. Masako is a Japanese artist who moved to the UK in 2005 after studying as a nurse, and then as a flower arranger! She then met Phillipe Aird, a Manchester based contemporary artist whose art is on display in the studio next door, and set up shop in Castlefield. On her website she writes that flower arranging and painting are complimentary activities, each providing ideas for the other and allowing her to transpose shape, colour, texture and design between the two areas. Sounds a bit mad, but once you've been to the little gallery, you'll have to agree! She still operates as a (relatively) normal florist with some beautiful flowers available. She offers floral designs for homes and office, and table arrangements for parties. There's a few quirky differences as well, such as the option to take along your own vase, and have it filled with flowers that suit it!! I must say I'm not a huge fan of flower arranging, I just don't seem to be affected by the subtle differences produced by getting the perfect ratio of sprig to chrysanthemum, so for me it's the paintings that really make this place great. I used my detective skills to trace the flower influence, by noticing that the paintings are all of flowers. They are all beautiful designs pained with bright but natural colours, and often outlined with very thick gold, silver or bronze paint, giving them a deep three dimensional texture. Have a look through the photos and see what you think. It's a pleasant walk along the canal to the gallery anyway and you can always stop at the picturesque Dukes 92 along the way, so you've nothing to lose by baying Masako a visit.
