Homeowners Beware - Our Experience with Blue Line Construction (Daniel Mabe)…read more Our experience with Daniel Mabe of Blue Line Construction has been extremely disappointing, frustrating, and likely expensive. We feel it's important to share the details so other homeowners can make informed decisions. We initially contacted Daniel on May 20, 2025. He came out to assess our project and later sent us a quote on May 23, 2025 Some modifications were made to the design and scope and a deposit of $7,852.00 was wired to him. After he received our deposit, Daniel's communication and responsiveness - never great - declined dramatically. Messages, calls, and texts often went unanswered for days or weeks at a time. When we were able to get hold of him, Daniel repeatedly told us that he was dealing with issues within his company, including staffing shortages and financial challenges which was contributing to his inability to solidify our project plans or provide a reliable start date. In an effort to be cooperative, we offered to delay the project start until 2026 if that would help resolve his situation. He expressed appreciation for our flexibility and assured us that we would be taken care of. Unfortunately, after that conversation we again heard nothing for weeks. Under North Carolina contract law, a party who fails to perform its contractual obligations or refuses to respond to reasonable inquiries regarding performance may be deemed to have materially breached the agreement. Its also contrary to Daniel's own words on his webstite: "Effective communication is key in both law enforcement and construction. We prioritize open and transparent communication to keep you informed every step of the way. " After months of delays, we finally took a firm stance and requested a definitive start date. Daniel then informed us that the project would begin on March 9, 2025 and sent a calendar invite to that effect. However, that date came and went with no appearance and no communication from him whatsoever. At that point, we began pursuing legal remedies, and information from the North Carolina Attorney General's Office confirmed that Daniel was in breach of contract and that the contract was therefore null and void. We presented this information to Daniel and formally requested the return of our $7,852.00 deposit. After receiving that notice, he began stating that he could complete the project, but by then the evidence was clear of his inability to follow through or complete the work as promised. Daniel stated that he needed time to "get the money together" to return our deposit. This was unexpected as he had indicated that no materials had been purchased with our deposit. However, we gave him 15 days to return the deposit and/or provide/deliver the materials he was supposed to have purchased along with receipts showing the purchase dates to verify they had been obtained prior to our refund request. He provided neither. As of today, we have heard nothing further from him, and his company website has since been removed. Daniel appears to operate under multiple business names, including Blue Line Construction, Blue Line Fencing, and Blue Line Painting, among others. None of these businesses appear to be registered with the Better Business Bureau, and the terms and conditions listed across these companies are inconsistent and do not align with the terms stated in his contracts. Daniel has also stated that he previously worked in law enforcement, stating on his website that "At Blue Line Construction NC, our mission is clear: to combine our law enforcement values of integrity, dedication, and community service with our construction expertise to improve the homes and lives of our clients." We aren't feeling it. We are sharing our experience so that other homeowners do not face the same situation. We will also be reporting our experience to any and all local suppliers, deck companies, contractors, law officials, and social media platforms to help ensure others are aware of what we experienced with Blue Line Construction. Our own research has also revealed other homeowners who appear to have had similar experiences with Daniel Mabe. One was facing a $60,000 loss. Some have initiated legal proceedings, and one stated that Daniel has received letters from their attorneys that have gone unanswered. A decking company informed us that another homeowner--an elderly couple--had reportedly lost $10,000 for their deck project as well. Hearing this only reinforced our concern that others may be facing similar situations. If you are considering hiring Blue Line Construction or Daniel Mabe, we strongly encourage you to proceed with extreme caution and conduct thorough due diligence before entering into any agreement.
